Physics tells there should be bigger difference when you try to get spin to slow shots like chiquita or dropshot, because there the pressure between racket and the ball is smaller.

I think you would find a bigger difference when the ball is wet or you are playing in damp conditions. My experience is that a wet ball slides off the racket when it’s wet if you are not playing with a rough surface - useful in the UK at least !

Nice video and I strongly agree with the conclusion. A rough surface doesn't make a big difference in spin (otherwise every single pro would use a rough surface since spin is important), but it does make a difference in feel. Whether you like that difference is a personal preference. I went from a smooth racket to a semi-rough racket and never noticed a difference in spin.
I really liked thus video, and i have tried alot of racjet, from smooth to sandpaper to really rough and as you said, with good techniqe you can get spin with whatever surface you want, its about perdonal preference. Paquito navarro can do a smash with a wrench, then surface doesnt matter lol

As you mentioned it's that feeling and I feel you get more of a feeling with the rough racket which helps with placement. But just my opinion that can maybe help people.
Hi, congratulations for the video. My impression is that the large difference in rotation between smooth blade and rough blade is inversely proportional to the power of the blow. In my opinion, by hitting the ball slowly, on the rough blade the ball rotates much more than on the smooth blade, on which I feel it sliding, while on strong shots it probably creates much more grip between the superior deformation of the ball on the holes. It's my feeling that is difficult to prove, but I invite you to try and verify it yourself. Thank you.

Great test, objective and also with a camera angle allowing viewers to see the difference was extremely small or none. Grip, or friction, depends on both surfaces. The rug on the ball might be to long and fluffy for sand dimensioned particles to affect the ball.
That should not be the case,because on impact the ball gets pushed into the racket and distorts quite a bit shape wise, creating even more connecting surface. I definitely prefer a gripped racket over a smooth one.
I switched to a rough surface one and I find that gives more spin to my serves at least. Maybe as well in situations when I hit a ball that comes rather slowly, like a chiquita from the opponent.
My Padel club is outside no roof. I think this will help in the damp winter conditions. My current racket is smooth and I feel the ball slide in light rain
Intersting comparison. I have been using a rough surface since 2018 (AdiPower CTRL 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 3.0 and now 3.1 the model used in this video) and if ever I try a smooth bat I find something lacking.
i got 2 new padel rackets some months ago, 1 bullpadel hack 03 and 1 Adidas adipower ctrl 3.1, i can add lot more effect to the ball with the Adidas than the Hack (the Hack is smooth), but ill keep playing with the Hack because i was playing with one bullpadel Vertex 02. The rough surface makes a diference, but that was the only point in favor to the Adidas racket !
In my experience, there's no real difference, maybe only the feel more than anything. Between my head pro x (smooth and matt paint) and my babolat technical viper (textured) it's only the sensations that change, no noticeable difference in spin.
Could you recommend some rackets for a left side player that would have 3d surface and not the sandy one that vanishes in a year or so? I have been playing with Bullpadel Vertex 03 CTR, but it has gotten smooth by now.

Grip, or friction, depends on both surfaces. The rug on the ball might be to long and fluffy for sand dimensioned particles to affect the ball.
Pro tip. buy Rustoleum industrial choice anti-slip spray and spray one side of ur racket with it. youll have a very grippy surface on one side.

You have to try and make chiquita from the back court. I love my rough surface when I'm at the back court
When u do a stop ball ore tromb you really notice the surface. But am from table tennis and are more sensitive and really feel the surface
