How so? What do you mean by right people benefit way more from it? I would much rather die (but I'd rather be raptured) than to become a machine or live forever.
@@MewMewYu1 it won't. Once on the market, technology is pure coercion. Let alone something that will "enhance" humans for a cheap price. And let alone the ethical and estetical implications, it will cause new terrifying scarcity issues.
I rather grow spiritually in evolving my consciousness than be a machine … they want to take our lives and preserve our conscious minds for their own gain
The thing is; maybe we have something like a soul. But I think that biology is a very good explanation for our existence and our consciousness and in the end, faith is born to give people hope while faced with death - and if death is no more, no one would have the need for faith. In the future, we will not just become smarter in ways beyond our physical comprehension, no we or our descendants will literally rival what some of us describe as "gods". We will be godlike. Immortal, all-knowing, beyond anything that makes us human.Sure, I wouldn't want to lose my humanity but the idea that I have a soul is a small price to pay for an everlasting life.
Good question; people actually talked about this rather extensively already; basically, it can be argued that despite not experiencing something bad, we still value things such as fresh air; something that is extremely rudimentary. You don't have to die to want to live and in a world without sorrow, happiness will not be any less appreciated. When you fall in love, the experience, for example, is pleasant no matter what your previous experiences were. And in the end, even happiness is just a chemical reaction.
Plenty of people who don't experience a lot of sadness in life are happy. Plenty of people who experience a lot of sadness never are. It's a false choice.
As long as the human heart is evil and not changed all of the great things this world has to offer would still lead to emptiness and not lead us to true happiness. That is only granted by God Himself through the Lord Jesus.

Ageing isn't a disease, it's a gift. The notion of downloading our consciousness is fascinating - but I suppose for transhumanists, they're not tied to the idea that being in a mortal human body is an integrity worth preserving. I think at the end of the day, no matter how advanced humans think they are, nature will always triumph in the end - and we're seeing that now as humans are steering the race towards irreversible climate change damage... Also, who would want to live in a world where Jeff Bezos is immortal?
Why is having a body necessarily better than not? Our bodies are limited by biology. Also, if we simply live as information in a perfect communist state by AI, Jeff Bezos and other elites will no longer have power.
+C. Wayne 1: People will not cease to die there are always accidents, wars, diseases and other ways to die even if biological aging is under control. Population metrics have shown that birth rates have fallen as people live longer, this applies to every society on Earth regardless of culture. Also technology is arriving to mitigate overpopulation plus space colonizing is a real possibility to address the problem too. 2: Highly unlikely and even if they do sooner or later they will get killed, no matter how superhuman you are it wont stop you being assassinated if you act in a way that merits it.
+C. Wayne The population growth is already dropping below replenishment rate in some countries, like Japan. Overpopulation won't be an issue. As for psychopaths getting superhuman properties, that just means that we need to make sure good people get them too.
Thank you for your comments, Steve, Corvid. Unfortunately, population growth in places like China, India and Africa demonstrate that enormous environmental damage is done before the rate levels off. It only took one Stalin, one Mao Tse Tung and Hitler without superhuman powers to exterminate 10s of millions, Someone like them or Idi Amin with enhanced powers could do so much worse. Had Stalin enjoyed another 20 years, the world would have been in horrible shape. For this and other reasons, I remained convinced of my original conclusions.
There is a constant trend in the world demographics called demographic transition. As country develops, it always gets to lower death and birth rates. That's why overpopulation is problematic in developing world and low birth rates are observed in all of developed world. In an insanely advanced civilization of the future, overpopulation will not be problem. As for the psychopaths, that could be suggested about any kind of weapon ever developed by humanity - any device that would give psychopathic individual an advantage over weaker victims. Still, society will ever strive to regulate destructive tendencies and oppose destructive individuals just like we have for our entire existence as homo sapiens.
I've been thinking the same thing, but logic seems to dictate that for the instance that is copied it would, then both would become different directly after as both the clone and I would experience life in different ways. That sounds right lol.

Someone alive today will still be alive in 2160, according to many statistics. I mean, even assuming there are no massive changes in life expectancy, even I have a 25% chance of reaching the age of 100. We are getting surprising close, especially when you realise there are many people today who will live in three centuries. Millions of them, in fact. Hopefully I will be one of them. And this isn't entirely something which will only happen in the richest countries. For all the bad press poor countries get, the average life expectancy across the globe is about 70. Yes, many countries are lower than that, but I think it's a credit to humanity that we are the first organism to extend life so massively. From the dawn of time until the Industrial Revolution, life expectancy remained almost constant. We have come further in the last 50 years than in the 50,000 before that.

Present the evidence to use how expensive it is to make the treatments and we allow government to drop taxes and other things to allow it to be affordable so the business man can still profit but not profit like a mad man. It is stupid in a world that claims to be civilized to have people be multi-billionaires and yet we still allow them to take advantage of the less fortunate just to get richer. This is something that seriously needs to be addressed. Also the general population need more say in the affairs of their governments. We need to be able to have a say and not just a few people who are supporting their own interest or people interest with money in their policies. We are smart enough to allow more effective systems of governance by allowing people to make decisions that regards us and not support only the rich, who has enough. It is time the poor start benefitting from our hard work. And we need to be the generation that push for this reality. If we don't demand it they will never feel a reason to give it to you.

That is, of course, unless we kill ourselves off somehow. When people die of "old age", they're not dying because of age. They're dying because of diseases and illnesses that pervade old age due to the body weakening. Figuring out how to stop cellular senescence and perhaps even replacing organs/tissues with superior, synthetic parts would easily add decades, if not centuries to a person's lifespan. Birth control (cyborg feminism) was the first trans human experiment, what it ushered in was nothing less than moral bankruptcy. It altered gender relations to a point that humans may never fully understand and if you ask women today for the most part the utterly regret it. Cyborg feminism and how it changed feminism of care which was utterly defeated by feminism of freedom because of this trans human approach has not only damaged women (hook up culture) but men aswell. The label of "human" is highly overrated. And I think most people already realize that at some level. Consider this -- if you are a fan of fantasy-movies like, say, Lord of the Rings. If that universe had been real, would you be racist against dwarves, halflings or elves just because they weren't humans? Would you say it would be okay to discriminate against them? Setting in place systems like "dwarf apartheid" or something? Most likely, you wouldn't. Or at least I hope you wouldn't. What matters is what's going on in your mind, not the physical shell your mind inhabits.
RobbedCrowd What is humanity? Life is nothing more than an experience of a subjective reality within a meat bag that reacts to stimuli. Transhumanism is the artificial continuation of that experience. What do you truly lose in such a transition?
+Ravall S: It is NOW, yes. However, let's assume that we reach a point where it no longer has to be, either via means of replacing most of our natural body with synthetic material, brain transplants, or transference of conciousness into a computer. At that point, that is no longer the case. And if and when that day comes, why should I then be attached to my current, biological body? Especially if I can get something better?
Transcending one's biology =/= losing one's humanity. Our unique brain architecture is what makes us human, and a human brain is a human brain - irrespective of the substrate it's running on.
Go guys. Make the future marvelous. All this shit we have to deal with today could be replaced by a universe that consists of pure joy and experience. No limits, no death, no injury, fatigue, illness or consequence. No fight for resources, no religion, no greed. First artificial then real. Outlawing aging sounds like outlawing reality. Transhumanism may be possible at some level but it will be completely different from being human. The connection between our brain and body is currently what makes us human. Would we still be human if our consciousness exists outside of our body?
If we can replicate the human brain and duplicate our consciousness then we would essentially be immortal. Should human consciousness be immortal? Where did our consciousness come from and where is it going? This Transhumanism movement looks to me like a way for humanity to finally move beyond the physical bounds of this body and planet and go out to learn what what we can in the universe. Our consciousness is limited by our physical body. If we had other senses availbe to our brains we could have new information and an enhanced consciousness. Is our consciousness attempting to find its creator in this universe? If we do will it be like a tadpole finding it's mother or more?
Consciousness cannot be recreated, THINGS they will make will just be good copies, consciousness is beyond our reach.Humans are becoming obsolete and elites want world for themselves only and rest of us will be just robot slaves to them while they think they will become omnipotent like God. They will try to do it but they won't succeed, because God won't allow it. Evil cannot outshine good.

No, that is the discussion we need. Some people will want to do exactly that, abandon our humanity altogether and live as gods. As I have been down a deep psychological and philosophical journey in this idea, it's not impossible. Consciousness will not be the same. Our consciousness is a consequence of the biological limitations this body gives us. To transfer our consciousness to a robot body would have a consequence. We still don't have any idea of what is human consciousness, it's more of a mystery than a black hole. The probability of failure in achieving this is very high and may be the end of human existence. We didn't evolve to be such! We didn't evolve for the super society we live in now. Consciousness and reality is a mystery that we should be very careful with.
I'm just going to give my two cents on the topic. To the people against transhumanism, I ask you a question. What is the purpose of life? It's to grow. Every life form, animal, plant, fungi, bacteria, etc. It's purpose is to develop and grow and improve. Transhumanism is just an aspect of that. I think it might be useful to upload human intellect to a digital system, and maybe, science might prefer giving a digital system multiple, yet compatible, personalities on a single digital system. I imagine that merged intellects could be quite powerful. So, let's say for each generation, scientists load an additional intellect, or personality, onto the digital system as we move through our concept of time; that would keep that particular digital system relatively current.

A life where there is no sadness, is there really happiness?
Good question; people actually talked about this rather extensively already; basically, it can be argued that despite not experiencing something bad, we still value things such as fresh air; something that is extremely rudimentary. You don't have to die to want to live and in a world without sorrow, happiness will not be any less appreciated. When you fall in love, the experience, for example, is pleasant no matter what your previous experiences were. And in the end, even happiness is just a chemical reaction.
You can’t appreciate one without the other
Yeah. Heaven. The afterlife. Humans are just passing by here and we have free will and the ability to research and find this out.

This raises big issues. 1. If people cease to die, how do we handle overpopulation? 2. What if psychopaths obtain superhuman qualities?
Make immortality require sterilization.

That triggers the question of self. If you could simply change your appearance whenever you want, you could lose sense of "individuality". Someone alive today will still be alive in 2160, according to many statistics.
+Adam Taylor I feel that I will live to see the time, you know even doe they will try to overprice it, I think actually humanity will have to make it a human rights issue and not something that should be sold at high prices.

As the Morpheus said, "how do you know what's real?" if it's the five senses that can be artificially produced, this is already a feat in itself...
@@eigelgregossweisse9563 I’m sure the existence would feel very real and if it was me, my conscious self, that gets to experience it then I’m entirely fine with that existence. However, my concern is not about what it might feel like to map one’s mind into a digital state, but rather whether or not my identity is sustained during the transfer from the material world to the digital one.
@@lucasdoherty6139 I get what you mean. How does one know if their being was successfully transferred or if they were just copy and pasted intoa digital form that thinks its you while the actual you just dies.
You can think of it this way. If you can map and copy a person's consciousness without killing this person in the proccess, then one would assume you just duplicated your personality. You could see how you would be able to interact with your digital self and realize, you didn't transfer. You made a copy. You would have transferred and not only copied if you could map the brain in a way that the digitized self can feel what the body feels and vice-versa. Then you would have upgraded/merged yourself with the machine, not simply made a copy in binary code of your thought pattern. I still have this "outdated" idea that somehow our brain and nervous system has some ineffable relationship with a soul/spiritual healm, and we might want to preserve that somehow. @@lucasdoherty6139
Also, could you imagine how a digital mind uploaded from a human being would feel if not transferred to a robot or sensorial body of sort? How would it deal with our primordial chemical and biological changes of eating, sleeping and having sex. Would it want to replicate or would it judge obsolete endeavours? So many questions.@@lucasdoherty6139

Woof Grung for you maybe. I'd like to see how the universe ends.
Unless you lose your brain. The new global goal seems to be losing brains in some fancy socalled consciousness stuff and then make you pure body, so you can move and consume for ever. You do not have to worry about nightmares anymore, because probably humans will lose their brains at all, and before we realize it we have become something else. There are animals that digest their brains, because it looks like we can survive without it. Excuse me but was i the only one who saw that rat with a human ear?
I don't like the idea of losing our humanity, I think a neural lace and improving upon a normal body would be a better idea than going virtual
Ditch the flesh keep the mind.

Go guys. Make the future marvelous. All this shit we have to deal with today could be replaced by a universe that consists of pure joy and experience. No limits, no death, no injury, fatigue, illness or consequence. No fight for resources, no religion, no greed. First artificial then real. Once we have figured out how to solve every problem we can create a universe buzzing with life, love, magic and wonder. It could all turn out better than we could ever dream of simply because what we think of as happiness today is nothing compared to whats actually possible.
Nagaserpent Killer For you probably.

This will never be accomplished within this universe let alone this measly planet we live on. This life is only a test designed by God. Pass you go to Heaven fail you go to Hell. These people are just trying to play God.

I don't know what will happen in the future But whatever happens will be perfect.I wish we were alive too. I wish to live a long life and see a good future.
Outlawing aging sounds like outlawing reality. Transhumanism may be possible at some level but it will be completely different from being human. The connection between our brain and body is currently what makes us human. Would we still be human if our consciousness exists outside of our body?
Do our human rights carry on with our consciousness? Will our consciousness alone be enough to warrant rights?
Our consciousness already exists outside of our body naturally. We don't need technology
Coming soon.

+HoldOnToYourTails Well, obviously the need for reproduction would end, so no.
ghostofdayinperson How do you propose to stop people reproducing? Isn't that already a problem in some countries?
When we know how to live how we want, we will eventually focus more on ourselves and lose interest in having kids.
+ghostofdayinperson Even if we got rid of aging, as long as we are human, there will always be an urge to reproduce. Even if we won't be able to die through old age, we will still be able to be killed through illnesses/diseases, accidents or acts of violence. So you want to be an emotionaless robot? Really seems like a downgrade......No thanks
No, that is the discussion we need. Some people will want to do exactly that, abandon our humanity altogether and live as gods. We need to decide what path we will want to take - and we need to do it now. I mean, look at stuff like the EU - a transnational alliance system born out of necessity. That will become normal all over the globe due to superpowers like the US and China making nationalism invalid for most nations and eventually lead to a world where we have just a single government - the issue? We will need to decide what kind of "people" or machines will lead us and if we mess up, the consequences could literally doom humanity.

Did you people see that rat! This is pure wickedness because these people are scared to die.
You might say it's "unnatural" but so is alot of other things we have today. Anything with artificial chemicals in is "unnatural" but that doesn't make it inherently bad. Just my opinion guys
People are against 'forced' transhumanism. That's tyranny.
@@SuffianMohammed You do make a valid point. But, in a lot of cases, the general population is rather stupid and doesn't know what's best for them
That's because for most people, ignorance is a bliss. But that doesn't mean that the population should be treated like stupid.. and forcing something against someone's will? I think it might be useful to upload human intellect to a digital system, and maybe, science might prefer giving a digital system multiple, yet compatible, personalities on a single digital system. I imagine that merged intellects could be quite powerful. So, let's say for each generation, scientists load an additional intellect, or personality, onto the digital system as we move through our concept of time; that would keep that particular digital system relatively current.
