If you don't rescue Annette, she becomes the Carmilla-style boss (woman riding a skull) on the top of the clock tower, if you do rescue her, you fight Death instead.
So, is that what the key is for?

I was a bit confused as to why the game was so slow, but then I realized this was the European version.
It's hard not to hum along with the music in the first stage. Konami always made great video game music.

This feels like that midway point between traditional Side scrolling Castlevania and the Metroid-vania rpg style of SotN. In my opinion SotN was just an improvement on Simon's Quest.
I really wish that the descriptions for videos were fully expanded by default. But yeah, after looking at the odd video size and seeing how slow the game is (compared to my NTSC copy), I figured it was from some PAL region.
Loved this game in childhood too much. The visuals, gameplay and the music created a totally amazing experience. It took me a while to realise that the rows of symbols (axe , bottle, etc) at end of each level is actually a password to resume from that level
Me too. I can't stop playing DXC, and even though the original Rondo is nice to compare (note the changes in the fight against Darkwing Bat, and Dracula's first two forms were made way easier to make way for his new third form) but it would have been great to compare all 3.

To the player playing this, this is NOT a port of Rondo, some consider it a sequel due to it being called Akumajou Dracula XX (and not X, plus no Chi no Rondo in the title), or even a re-imagining of the game. But by no means is this a port, just because Konami in the US decided to call it just Castlevania Dracula X.
Oh and you missed saving Annet, oops.
@vospominanie Many CV fans I've spoken with over the years don't even consider this a port, more of a reimagining of the PCE CD game. Much like how Valis 4 SNES and Valis 4 PCE CD are 2 completely different games, only sharing the name, and the main heroine.

I've considered this a decent game (and I still kind of do) until I finally had a chance to play the original Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on PC-Engine / Turbografx 16. It's hard to even compare the quality of these two. The SNES port has been butchered beyond belief.
I don't think it's necessary to compare the two as they are 2 very different games, only one is on a more powerful system (Rondo of Blood) so of course the quality has to suffer for the other one (Dracula XX). To be fair, it's NOT even a port, and for a Super Famicom/Super NES game, the graphics and music in Dracula XX are very, very good. I found the music to be top-notch and adds to the playing experience. Dracula XX plays well, the enemy placements are great, there are secret, alternative levels, the difficulty is balanced and it's a nice entry to the Castlevania series. Of course, it's not a perfect game nor is it the best Castlevania game, but it's a great game nonetheless and I love it.
@@kwokyin The SNES is more powerful than the PC Engine CD, which is a 8 bit-system... but it has the CD. That's why the SNES version has better graphics, but worse musics...
@@MadMax-ce2uy Is it? I am not familar with the PC Engine, but I love SNES and I love Dracula XX. I downloaded every Super Famicom game (all 49 games) ever released on Japanese 3DS Virtual Console, and I also own Super Famicom Mini and SNES mini. Yes, I am huge fan.
I tried every emulator for the Engine and rom for the rondo of blood an none of them worked for me

Castlevania also appeared in NECs TurboGrafx16 CD.. A major competitor for the Nintenod in Japan...

Difícil pra caramba! Lembro que tinha esse cartucho, só que ele travava depois de 15 minutos (era contado e não sei porque), as vezes testava minhas habilidades fazendo speedrun kkkkkk outras vezes não tinha paciência e colocava o código do machado pra última fase mesmo.

even though it had none of the cinematics, voice, and all the design wrong... some parts of the SNES Dracula X were fun and looked nicer in some ways. i wish it had been included in Dracula X Chronicles on PSP for the sake of a definitive collection.

He did not rescue Annette, she became the woman riding a skull (clock tower) and when he defeated her... he killed her.

Yeah Rondo of Blood for PSP is Dracula X or Vampire's Kiss. The Prequel to one of if not the greatest Castlevania games of all time Symphony of The Night.

Not sure if you can really call it a port if the level design is nothing like rondo of blood's. Sure the story is the same but everything else is pretty much different. It's more like a remake then a port. Either way I enjoyed this game and Dat funk guitar is amazing.

Just beat the Turbografx one recently and it blows this one out of the water.
It does but it is very easy. This one is more satisfying to beat just because its so hard.

Im playing this game on an emulator with save at any point. The game is still difficult.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it much further past the first level in this game. It just all felt like it was moving in slow motion to me; Richter certainly was at least, with his strutty stomp walk. I liked SCV 4 much more than this game.

It does not look as good as Castlevania 1+3+Super Castlevania 4...i mean i never played this one but the music kind of kills the atmosphere, dont you think?
what r u talking about? the music is awesome, like u would expect from any Castlevania game, with several classic music theme songs (like Bloody Tears) that rock
If u want to complain about something, u could complain that the gameplay is kinda slow, some backgrounds are a bit "cheap", and of course the whip is only one-directional
also the game is a bit short
but i would say its still a must-own (for Castlevania fans)
