Kind of symbolic and telling how, in the comic, all the 'new' metahumans with their edgy aesthetic were all killed, just like how most of them disappeared after the 90s and superman's generation are the only ones left. Goes to show how timeless they are and that the 'fad, trendy' heroes didn't stay long.
What's amazing about it is that KC is the Author's clapback to all those edgy and overtly cynical comics that came out of the 90's. Both heroes and villains, cared not of saving lives. But rather just to sate their bloodlust.

Oh, fun fact: In titans of tomorrow, a story showing a potential future timeline for the dc universe, clark kent, bruce wayne, diana, wally and barry etc are all dead and their younger counterparts, conner kent, tim drake, cassie, bart allen take up their roles but become darker, rougher versions of the heroes, and Conner's superman suit has black in his S symbol like KC's superman, but also listens to lex luthor like KC captain marvel And alex ross did art of Conner kent and Matrix (who was the supergirl at the time) in the KC timeline where they travel to the 31st century to remove their powers from the war, and they have new, legionnaire suits and conner has a new hairstyle.
I had read comic books since I was 4 years old, they basically taught me to read. I had a huge collection by my twenties but after COIE and Secret Wars, I quit. I saw this Trade Paperback and got drawn back in. That exchange between Superman & Wonder Woman about war is one of my favorite dialogs of all time.
#3 all time favorite dc comic story , I love how booster golds restaurant is an armory of various items from the DC multiverse that is a pocket dimension inside a reality.
My favorite superhero book of all time. A love letter to the Golden Age, a criticism of moralless and irrational antiheroes that, unfortunately, continues to be relevant. Plus, each character experiences a catharsis: Superman and his adjustment to a world ruled by animals, Batman and his self-imposed isolation and mission to Gotham City, Wonder Woman and her increasingly violent emotions, and Captain Marvel and his brainwashing at the hands of Lex Luthor.
Kingdom Come is my favorite piece of heroic fiction. I loved the theme of the old guard versus the new guard. I loved Wonder Woman's role in the story and also, Batman's role. My favorite was the collected edition's epilogue where Clark, Bruce and Diana meet at Planet Krypton. I celebrated the end of 2023 reading this story. I wanted the end of the year to be celebrated by reading my favorite piece of heroic fiction. And I feel The Kingdom, the 1998 follow up was an enjoyable read as well.
I could (and have) look at Alex's paintings for hours w/o any dialogue. Just the art alone is satisfying enough. Simply amazing and he's a big reason I got into adding color into my pieces. Especially his lighting/shading contrast is too tier
Warner Brothers & DC Animation should make THIS into a 2-part animated film. But instead they want to continually shove *"evil Superman"* down our throats with an *"Injustice"* animated movie. I'll never support *"evil Superman"* with my hard-earned money. But if WB & DC make *"Kingdom Come"* into a 2-part animated film, I'll gladly support it.
The great thing about KC was the critique about violence of super heroes. Ironically the movies turned exaclty the oposite, a very weird characters being violent by weird vision of Snyder

This story trutly represents what defines the DC heroes: While the Marvel heroes are humans who become super heroes, having to overcome their own flaws and personal issues, the DC heroes are this heroic, altruistic , large-than-life "modern gods" who always tries to help people the best they can while learning to accept their own humanity, their flaws and limits, in order to overcome it and become better.
@shut up I didn't mean that the DC heroes are inhuman or anything. What I meant to say was that overall this nice, heroic figures, who always tries to help others and their stories usually focus on the heroes having to recognize their own flaws in order to evolve as people, revealing the humans behind their super hero personas. In the case of Kingdom Come Superman and the other heroes start out as this gods wanting to help make the world better, but in the end, they had to recognize that their actions end up affecting people's trust in the super heroes, making decide in the end to try to regain the people's trust., recognizing their mistake in order to become better.
I read this book, cover to cover, shortly after Avengers broke the box office (pre-MCU hype). To me, this story delivered a live action epic that no Snyderverse or Gunn DCU could measure up to.
You could tell the writers and illustrators here are big Star Wars fans, on the far left on 7:21 you can see (I believe that's Peacemaker? Judging from the chest insignia) wearing mandalorian armor, and Bruce Wayne's neck brace literally looking identical to Darth Vader's neck brace
I bought the Novel, which l loved. I am now retired from the workforce. But l grew up with these heroes. My parents died when l was young. These people were my escape. The friends l went to, to escape my harsh reality. It helped me to deal better with the problems of the day. I do not think l would be ready to except my elderly age without it. I am definitely a Silver age fan. Once told my age to my niece, Lol. Uncle your ot 62, your 40 something.
After The Boys, Onmi Man and Snyder universe, Kingdom Come is more actual than ever, more people use to get inspired by Homelander and Onmi Man, this is crazy

Not to mention the amazing character designs! Alex Ross is truly a genius when it comes to costume design!
You really do pick the best topics.
Also You should do one over the og young justice comic run because I’d love to hear about your opinions over that
YES, I've been WAITING for you to do this title for the longest time!!!
This story is just epic. DKR and Year One were great, but KC is just much more moving. Never gets old and still holds up phenomenally well even today.
The artwork is unrivaled
I would say Kingdom Come is the greatest comic book stories ever.
If one person can explain Kingdom Come to a non-comic reader (such as myself)...It's Owen Likes Comics.
I'd definitely recommend checking it out, even if just for the artwork. It's absolutely amazing.
I know you probably won't read this, but I just got Kingdom Come today and read it and it was amazing. 10/10.
The best DC comic! Nothing is better.
Fun Fact: Shazam was known as Captain Marvel in this story as it takes place long before he was forced to change his name
They wasn’t forced…. He is called the captain now and Captain marvel still
I could (and have) look at Alex's paintings for hours w/o any dialogue.
What about gay superman ?lol
The great thing about KC was the critique about violence of super heroes. Ironically the movies turned exaclty the oposite, a very weird characters being violent by weird vision of Snyder
Superman didn't fight Shazam, he fought Captain Marvel.
This is my favourite comics... Alex Ross 🔥🔥
What an amazing comics
I only discovered this a few months ago, and I agree with everyone who say's it's one of the greatest.
I was grounded in the 7th grade when i found this at the library. I was so happy to be grounded and forced to go to library until my mom got off work. I was pretty happy bruh. This and civil war marvel are my favorite stories.
My favorite comic book story ever.
I love how parodies of 90s antiheroes like Magog, Azrael, and Lobo are almost universally more popular than the characters they were made to imitate.
I remember seeing this comic as a kid and being mesmerized by the art
I was waiting for this for a long time for you to cover kingdom come. I liked your comment when you said that this story is the dark knight return for superman
This comic is the best DC comic and one of if not the most beautiful comic of all time. I adore it.
The consistant quality of these videos are always great
Thank you so much!
@@OwenLikesComics honestly, there was a while when none of your videos showed up on my recommended and when I searched your channel back up I was surprised you weren’t at 200k
It took me almost 20 years to get my Softcover & Hardcover copies of Kingdom Come signed by both Mark Waid & Alex Ross. 1998 at the Warner Bros Store in Glendale Ca for Alex Ross & 2014 Wondercon Anaheim Ca for the Stump Mark Waid Pannel which I successfully did.
Maaaaan this video is so good that I'm resisting the urge to go buy the Absolute edition of the comic!!
I want to hunt down kingdom as well as 1994’s marvels now.
I read this book, cover to cover, shortly after Avengers broke the box office (pre-MCU hype).
To me, this story delivered a live action epic that no Snyderverse or Gunn DCU could measure up to.
One of my favourite comics ever. Very good video
You could tell the writers and illustrators here are big Star Wars fans, on the far left on 7:21 you can see (I believe that's Peacemaker? Judging from the chest insignia) wearing mandalorian armor, and Bruce Wayne's neck brace literally looking identical to Darth Vader's neck brace
once again as always, great job. i look forward to your videos. thanks
Thank you so much!
This is basically injustice without being edgy and having a good ending
They should make an anime adaptation of this one...made by Ufotable or Wit studio. It would be epic if this would be anime.
If they ever adapted this the only one it would be good if it had the same quality as the max flescher Superman shorts from the 30s.
@@noneofyourbusiness1114 plz ufotable
I love this comic. I also highly recommend the novelization, which expands on details of the story.
Holy shot there’s a book
@@ItsButterBean1020 Yes, and it's worth the read.
@@juliagoodwin9510 where can I know more about this
Amazing , ingenious , a masterpiece of all ages
SOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! In the top 5 of all time!
Great comic, great story, great clash between Captain Marvel and Superman
It is truly great and the art of Alex Ross makes it pop
You mentioned Ross's choice of James Robinson. I absolutely loved Golden Age and feel it's every bit as good as Kingdom Come.
Loved it man you always make quality videos!
Thank you!
I would like to see this story in animated form.
4:50 Ayy it's good ol scott from Nerdsync
I'd like to see your take on the Earth X trilogy as a follow up on this.
Personally my favorite DC comic ever.
After The Boys, Onmi Man and Snyder universe, Kingdom Come is more actual than ever, more people use to get inspired by Homelander and Onmi Man, this is crazy
