I agree. They can easily continue this E1 stories on DC Black Label. I mean, Black Label replaced Vertigo (which I don't know why they got rid of that name/label) which were basically Elseworld stories. DC Black Label is a bit of a mystery. Some stories with these A lIst characters like Supes, Bats, Wondy and the rest are canon and yet some are not. They mostly do the A list character stories and it doesn't really do a lot of stories like Vertigo did. Again, it's confusing and interesting how some stories are canon and some are not. Y'know what? Better yet, just revive the Elseworlds label and continue on with E1 stories.
This SHOULD be the inspiration for a Green Lantern movie! Also, I want to hear your thoughts on Earth 1 Superman, Wonder Woman and most of all Teen Titans.
Agreed. In fact, in adaptation of vol 1, they could replace Killowog for Sinestro (or just have him as one of Hal's allies, alongside other lanterns) and have the movie be a buddy cop adventure, showing Hal and Sinestro becoming friends and partners. In the following movies it could show Sinestro slowly revealing his dark side and becoming Hal's enemy, with the third movie adapting Sinestro Corp War.

The origins of the Yellow Lantern Rings in Earth One is so bizarre because it boiled down to "Green is slightly weaker than yellow and if you pick yellow you're being too greedy for wanting to have excessive power, so you better stick to the weaker version... which is still one of the most powerful weapons in the universe...??"
There's uncertainty because of the comic history of the ring and it coming from an unreliable source that leads the users, but SPOILER WARNING in truth it's just another tool like the Green Ring. The moral issue was not using the yellow lantern rings but rather working for the Guardian; it turned out that the risk of it putting people under his thrall was unfounded. That along with the green battery being launched into another dimension is why the entire corps goes yellow, with the guardian gone and fears past the Green Lantern Corps swaps their colors out of practicality. It's pretty funny they'd probably have to call a third volume "Yellow Lantern Earth One".

This is a very interesting video. Especially the way you frame this story as a 'masterpiece'. While we heavily disagree, im glad you really enjoyed it. Im going to make my own video on why I think its a fundamentally misunderstanding of what Green lantern is as a mythos/
I regularly think about that pseudo-splash page with an integrated panel design, highlighting Hal's biggest regret. It's the turning point of his arch and such a perfect page.
So glad I clicked on this video, great review, and from beginning to end I was thinking how great a movie adaptation of this would be and you said it lol. I’ve gotta pick these two volumes up and start my fanfic screenplay haha
This would make for a really cool movie adaptation. I mean, I'd still prefer a good movie based on the main universe Hal, but this would be so awesome too.
It is always sad how animations nerf green lanterns in way they start to feel like a street level hero. They patrol multiple galaxies with ease. That power ring under a trained user is no joke.
I have read both volumes, and I thought it was really good. The only issue I had with it was that the space mining thing seemed more advanced than the technology of the other Earth One titles, but that's a minor nitpick. The story was great, and I really got to like this version of Hal Jordan.
According to Gabriel Hardman, they were told the Earth One books didn't have to be in continuity with each other. Plus GL is set in the near future, so it's not much of an issue.
Just read Volume 1 of this after being away from the world of Green Lantern for so long and Holy shit was it an Epic read to come back to this characters universe
nothing I really liked about the Green Lantern Earth one was it flip the script instead of the manhunters being created first they're created after the Green Lantern Corps, as a replacement because the Guardians didn't like the fact that there lantern's we're disobeying their orders,

Minor note: While the yellow rings **are** powered by fear in the mainstream DC Universe, on Earth One the source of the lantern rings' energy is never so explicitly stated, and certainly not by the Guardian at any point, he only boasts that the yellow rings are more powerful than the green.
Earth one series probably Should have been DC'S 2010's reboot instead of New 52 it was a clean slate from decades of continuity, it keep the look of DC but more realistic instead of high octane body armor.
I was expecting something more interesting than just what if James Holden from the expanse were Hal Jordan. How is this fresh? This is barely different than the main continuity, and the biggest difference isn’t anything to do with the green lantern ethos but simply the tech level of earth. Maybe this story is very well told but to call this a fresh reimagining is insanely generous.
I loved the darker, hopless, atmosphere of this story. Most stories show the Green Lanterns as super powerful, and guided by the immortal Guardians. In this story the rings felt limited, and the Guardians were just vile. Twisted the story enough to not be unrecognizable...but enough to make it feel fresh.
Do you ever plan to do a video on Über and Über Invasion? They’re a what if story that’s basically how much more insane would world war 2 have gotten if Hitler succeeded in getting his supersoldiers. So like “What if Hydra got it and the US didn’t?” It’s crazy.
I could actually see this as the premise for a Green Lantern movie, even though I highly doubt that's going to happen because this is a DC superhero that isn't Superman or Batman, and the fact that the previous GL film was such a flop that DC probably still has cold feet over it.
Something that really struck me about the more science based approach to the world is in volume 1 after Hal first gets the ring, he’s not able to come back on the ship because he isn’t guaranteed not to be unsafe like the quarantine protocols in Alien. There’s also that he’s depicted as a regular guy, he’s not the big hotshot with the incredible body he’s got a healthy though unremarkable physique. This really sells him more as a relatable everyman, someone caught up in a situation in the deep end and having to trust he’s making the right decisions (which is reflected that in this continuity there isn’t the rings choosing people with the potential for willpower). This contrasts with his main continuity persona, where he is the guy everyone looks up to, who has the solution no matter how drastic and gets away with his cocky nature because of his win record.
Even though some Green Lantern stories can be pretty crazy, I wouldn't call them ridiculous as a majority of their stories have been incredible, involving massive intergalactic scale, with fascinating lore surrounding the Lantern Corps aand DC Intergalactic universe. I definitely think Green Lantern Earth One is one of the most interesting and fascinating GL stories/interpretations that I've seen.
@@milkiassamuel780 I hear what you're saying but I really find all the different colour rings lazy writing and repetitive. This was the first time the green and yellow ring back stories made sense. Still, I've only read a fraction of the lantern stories. There are probably some good ones.
U just dont like the character, pal, and thats fine. This version is cool, but i dont see it working within a dc universe as a whole, especially for the take on the lanterns being some kind of jedi order post episode 3. That, yea, is lazy
I theorize if this new version of HAL JORDAN Green-Lantern was added into the (DC E.U.) his realm might be labeled as EARTH-101, or it might be the EARTH-218 Realm.
If we had this amount of vision to all the Earth One books we’d have probably seen more consistent releases or at least better dates. Superman Was decent, Batman was rather sub par, Wonder Woman was more love letter than interesting story, and Teen Titans was lackluster at best.
Yes, they re-invented him as a weak, 3rd rate character. His constructs shatter like sugar glass, and he gets easily beaten by middle of the road characters (heroes and villains). They suddenly decided the ring has no effect at all vs superman or darksied. The most powerful weapon in the universe and it might as well be a super soaker vs even lex Luthor's weapons or intergang's weapons. His battle vs Zod was the most badly written, and dumbest possible way to win. The man who could move and destroy planets, time travel, take out superman level and cosmic characters is now just a background character that is zero threat to superman. Since First flight and New frontiers, GL in the DCAU has been absent, or quickly defeated like an irrelevant nuisance.
I don't know why but the way Hal Jordon is drawn in the book makes him look like Ryan Gosling. I would love to see this as a film one day.

Can you please do a video on Spurrier’s hellblazer run? My favorite comic over the past couple years by far
It is always sad how animations nerf green lanterns in way they start to feel like a street level hero.
They patrol multiple galaxies with ease. That power ring under a trained user is no joke.
I am SO curious about the TT, will you do it?
At some point, definitely.
Dope breakdown.
Well done .
love green lantern earth one so much
its so good i enjoy earth one comics tbh
Wow this Sounds like a Great Story.
Amazing comic books, Amazing art
I really want a third volume of this series! Get your shit together DC and make it happen!
easily one of my favorite earth one stories. green lantern and batman got good stories
Just read Volume 1 of this after being away from the world of Green Lantern for so long and Holy shit was it an Epic read to come back to this characters universe
I like this, I'm surprised they never made a movie out of this story.
nothing I really liked about the Green Lantern Earth one was it flip the script instead of the manhunters being created first they're created after the Green Lantern Corps, as a replacement because the Guardians didn't like the fact that there lantern's we're disobeying their orders,
Still holding out vague hope that Doom Patrol: Earth One becomes a reality someday.
I'm still impress how the 2011 green lantern effect is still affecting everything
Ooh green lantern earth one awesome
With the recent announcement I'd love to see you do the story of Daredevil Born Again.
I've had volume 2 forever but haven't cracked it. The Earth One imprint just makes me sad when I think about the potential.
▶ Thank you for watching! I recently interviewed Gabriel Hardman (co-writer/artist of Green Lantern: Earth One). If you would like to read the interview, it is on Patreon for those pledging $3 per month and above: www.patreon.com/posts/69219276
Minor note: While the yellow rings **are** powered by fear in the mainstream DC Universe, on Earth One the source of the lantern rings' energy is never so explicitly stated, and certainly not by the Guardian at any point, he only boasts that the yellow rings are more powerful than the green.
I hope James gunn dcu green lantern heavily take inspiration from this
Do you think this is an influence on James Gunn’s Lanterns?
Earth one series probably Should have been DC'S 2010's reboot instead of New 52 it was a clean slate from decades of continuity, it keep the look of DC but more realistic instead of high octane body armor.
Cool video.
Hopefully the DCU’s Lanterns show can bring about enough demand for the third and final volume
It's honestly a shame it flopped and we have never seen this variation of green lantern return since
Can you please discuss about Crisis on infinite earths comics in your next video that will be awesome
I think this version is the best be adapted to video game
One of the few times Hal has actually been interesting
DC needs to revive Stan Lee's JLA series.
Finally a Green Lantern story that wasn't ridiculous
@@NUCLEARDASHpretty sure James Gunn is taking heavy inspiration from this lol
I theorize if this new version of HAL JORDAN Green-Lantern was added into the (DC E.U.) his realm might be labeled as EARTH-101, or it might be the EARTH-218 Realm.
If Green Lantern Earth 1 is anything like Superm Earth 1. Then I definitely have to check it
This would be an epic dc movie especially after the Batman's tone of choice
I really want a volume 3 of tis series. It feels incomplete, like Del Toro's Hellboy movies.
So earth one is kinda like dc version of the ultimate universe
Yeah, but without the books necessarily being connected to each other.
Smart video about a smart comic.
If we had this amount of vision to all the Earth One books we’d have probably seen more consistent releases or at least better dates. Superman Was decent, Batman was rather sub par, Wonder Woman was more love letter than interesting story, and Teen Titans was lackluster at best.
I kinda want to get into green lantern comics. If anyone sees this can I get a recommendation at least a starting point.
Blackest Night was my first read. Lots of characters but a great story.
I was going to star this series but looks like it's cancelled :/
I want to read
#Lanterns
It's funny, cause WonderWoman earth-one a werid mess that failed on different fronts.
Most people: "BuT THey mADe iT dIFFERnt sO ThAt MEaNs IT's bAd"
Less interested in these videos where you just explain the plot of the whole book at me
The earth one books are garbage. Well drawn garbage.
Teen Titans didn't even have the decency to have good art.
Ehh Batman and GL are solid imo
How so?
Green lantern is great
Well told
