I actually got to meet John Mayer and he really is this cool in person we sat down and had a conversation for about a half an hour about playing guitar and I was like are you sure you don't need to be anywhere and he's like no man there's no place I'd rather be than right here with you and it made me feel so special I thought to myself man this guy is unreal he really is this good nice guy in my eyes he's our Jimi Hendrix of this generation or maybe a better comparison is Eric Clapton
"The best music transcends your playlist and moves into a different place in your life where it becomes your companion. It becomes storage units for your memories. It does something a little bit more than just make you sing along. Its places you somewhere in your life in a time that you'll always remember" Couldnt have been said better.
J. M. Music awakened my soul. It took me through the happiest days of my life to some of the most heartbreaking. I can reflect and hold a memory for every album, song, and guitar solo. His music changed my perception of love and life and humbled me to the core. Such a magnificent and beyond talented artist.
+Whoopie Goldbird from now on, I want to use your comment, word for word, as an explanation to why John Mayer is my favorite artist, and the reason I wanted to become a professional singer/songwriter!
quincywho He's very cerebral and articulate. Described my experience with blues and hip hop so perfectly. I was some white kid from the Midwest, and something about those genres moved me. Naturally, I had to respectfully play along and learn these styles in a way that someone of my demographic can relate to. I went through the exact same exposures with certain artists, which launched me to learn about others (Clapton to Big Bill Broonzy, Mike Bloomfield to Mississippi John Hurt). I like this guy more and more everything he does.
Only just finding this now. I've watched every JM interview I know exists & this is now my favourite. He's so naturally well thought out & spoken in this interview... & the ROOM! wow
This man is literally a music genius. His song assassin is great, but this whole album is great. it's telling a story first to last song. Fantastic stuff.
i love what Battle Studies says about John. he´s not afraid to evolve and to honest to who he is and how he´s changing spiritually. your albums have been storage units for many of my memories....
listenin to john talking is definitely some kind of therapy. Hes such a smart & great talker who knew his stuffs, he can just go on for hours & i wont mind
Ein Fantastischer Künstler.. Ein Genialer Gitarrist.. Ein Intresanter Mann und so schön Geerdet... I Love you John Mayer... 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Can't believe this guy only has 5 million followers in IG, and worth 40 million. Katy Perry is worth 120 mil and has 95 mil followers. Katy is great artist but John is one of the greatest of this generation.
War of my life is continuing to help me get through the worst thing that's ever happened in my life. Hearing this was a wow moment... Good job John- mission accomplished. I hope I'll get to shake your hand and thank you in person someday.
The part at the end, man, couldn't be more true! War of my life for me is a song I listen when going through rough times, and i can remember how I overcame obstacles in the past, gives me strength and a moment of joy. Thanks John!
Perfect description of the pros and cons of internet influencing learning guitar. I spent a lot of my teens just learning the shapes of chords, the shapes of scales, memorizing tabs, etc, not ever actually *learning* guitar/music. Wasn't until around age 20, when I forced myself to learn by ear, did I really make strides in my playing. The pro of the internet, is that I have unlimited lessons and sources of music to tap into instantly.
This guy seems pretty cool. It would be so cool if I had a boyfriend that looks like John Mayer. He's the SAME age as my cousin who participated in my parents' wedding as a flower girl.
k so i'm just gonna throw this out there~ whenEVER you wanna complain at all that some guy is choosing some particular girl just as arm candy or only because of her looks.... just go back to your comment here n' remember he's behaving exactly like you. have a nice day!
No matter where I look, "All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye" is never really on ANY top (something) list... WHY???? That song relates to me so much, I love it. It is the most beautiful song for me.
My employees are experienced, mature, and professional. They are friendly, kind and approachable. I love spending time with them and I appreciate all their hard efforts throughout the years.
Carlos de la Rosa Noriega bullshit, he didn't go to a conservatory just to get rich when he grows up. of course he does it for the music not for the fame
Oh wow.. If you think he does music just to sell, you simply really don't know anything about John Mayer. His "Pop" sound were many many years ago. (Pop meaning: trying to have a "sound that sells") He then got many albums with less "pop" songs, producing blues music (with the John Mayer Trio among other things), and very recently, he started giving his music almost a country vibe! He was critiqued a lot for switching from Blues to "Country-Blues" because people used to love the pure blues feel to his music. But the guy is going to play whatever he wants, so Born and Raised was the 1st album to have that new vibe to it, then Paradise Valley too. Eric Clapton said he could not believe how incredibly good John Mayer was with a guitar, calling him a true Master. The guy doesn't need to try to please to anyone (just look at his reputation on the tabloids). He keeps being bashed for his romantic stories and people underestimate how good he is musically because of that. Just listen to his lyrics; he is one of the greatest poets of our era.. Really !!
Playing hip hop music is simple any dummy can make hip hop music I know he wanted to say that but he was being kind n nice this guy is so talented it's unreal
Just magnificent 👌 makes me want to study, practice, discover, listen, HEAR, and then create as thoughtfully as he can. Alas I’m starting twenty years behind! 🏆 guess I better get cracking. “Truly on-line” oh dear I better log off and pick up a CD 🥅
Just sold an item on fb market place and I thought to myself hmm I should probably package the item. And at the same time John said the word package. How weird is that !
And this is why JM never release “The Best of JM” Album cause he’s limitless. His learning curve never ending. He will always be an open book. #respect
Battle Studies is his "Rocky IV" its where his ego and success got so big the ridiculous amount of production added to placing where john was at his life. I like it ALOT but its also when the douch rumours started to become manifest for me
I enjoyed listening to the interview, interesting how John M. is talking about his musical experience really, the words he uses! However, some things, some werds were lost on me, I'd be grateful ifcsomeone can help me understand - I can't grasp the words... ....say, from 3:21 - 3.45 - didn't catch the idea about smth German, about Itunes? ...and what is this song played by Jay-Z at 6:17 ("U Don't Know" is clear, but the one before)?
What he meant was that iTunes etc other music download applications reduce people downloading illegally songs, that might even be bullshit and not the real ones. And the other part, I think he meant some artist that Jay-Z was playing with. Don't know that one though, sorry

Wow, how did that happen?
Came here for John. Stayed for the hardwood floor.
My eyes couldn't look away. Wide planks of dark, warm grains.

I love the way he sits in the chair. Like an uber-chill boss.
Chris Stewart Really? What makes you say that?

Couldn't have said this better. His lyrics and melodies speak to me like no other musical genre or artist ever has!
You put into words what Ive been feeling for so many years. Thank you 😊
I've tried for some time now to put into words what John,a music means to me but you've just said it perfectly ,thank you x

Battle studies is still my favourite John Mayer album... it hits different
This man. I could listen to him all day.
i love what Battle Studies says about John. he´s not afraid to evolve and to honest to who he is and how he´s changing spiritually. your albums have been storage units for many of my memories....

+Mia Faso He'll take you out this weekend, shall I set the appointment ? Let's say 7pm ? What kind of food you like ?
+Mia Faso u r no less
He's successful because of his songwriting, singing and guitar playing
Mia Faso Agree with you. Just not looks but brains
"the stamps that I have on my musical passport" ... what a phrase!
His songs speak to one’s very soul.
I really like this interview. he's really authentic and isn't trying too hard. Hes really well spoken in this.
First time I’ve ever seen John without a watch on his wrist. 💜
The whole time the cameras going from 50ft away to BAM john's pore, silhouette, BAM his hair line. I can't finish this
listenin to john talking is definitely some kind of therapy. Hes such a smart & great talker who knew his stuffs, he can just go on for hours & i wont mind
Holy moly! I love John. I sit and jam about 4 hours a day. This quality interview is what makes 4 hours pleasurable.
This is why you are one of my favorite guitar players/artist, your musical insights are very easy for me to relate to, effortless.
But those hardwood floors!
ColtraneAndRain aw hell yeah
John is so talented and attractive 🙌🏻.
This interview made me see music in a whole new way. Thanks John. You're a legend.

I was expecting the "BOOM BOOM" from Law and order after that epic intro.
He is sooo handsome here omg

Heart & head exactly in the right place.
Great interview! Thanks for sharing.

The part at the end, man, couldn't be more true! War of my life for me is a song I listen when going through rough times, and i can remember how I overcame obstacles in the past, gives me strength and a moment of joy. Thanks John!
john mayer isn't wearing a watch here! that drives me insane knowing that he is obsessed with watches
#stampsonmymusicalpassport
#idioms
the depths of communicative genius are buoy that keeps ME afloat ..
As a guitarist and musician, John Mayer is without a doubt a respected musician and master guitar player.
Beautiful man
John , give us an instrumental album...Thank you..
People use the term GOAT far to loosely. John Mayer is the actual GOAT. period.
Battle Studies is a great record. Come back to it every so often. Has a bit of grit in it for sure.
"Everything changed, when I found you" LOL
I love these man as a musician
Master Guitar Player, Hands Down!!
Totally legend !
I love your music
he's the man when he's talking guitar and music
The way he sits is so cute ..........

Sooo much gold in this 👌 wow

He is a combination of all my smartest friends/.
He just explains exactly what I feel about this record thank you John.
nice interview!

What??
ill listen all day everyday...fucking brilliant
such a fucking shame artist collaborate nowadays just for the publicity and not for the music.....
he just did music to sell not the music he likes
Carlos de la Rosa Noriega bullshit, he didn't go to a conservatory just to get rich when he grows up. of course he does it for the music not for the fame
i mean, his newest albums
Carlos de la Rosa Noriega why is that.
Oh wow.. If you think he does music just to sell, you simply really don't know anything about John Mayer.

I never knew to put it in words but the shower metaphor is exactly how i felt the first time i pressed play on continuum.
Geniuses must earn their bread als well... multiple creative mind. I would do the same.
Is it wrong that the first thing I thought was ....”wow, that floor looks amazing!!” Lol. Love mayer!!
Metaphor game on point
Just sold an item on fb market place and I thought to myself hmm I should probably package the item. And at the same time John said the word package. How weird is that !
John Mayer reminds me of Dennis Reynolds
I really liked the wood on the floor.
Battle Studies as a companion not so much...Born and Raised all time classic
Continuum is his all time classic to me. Nailed it.
The songwriting on born and raised is so brutal. Albums like that don't come around every year.
All of the above 🙏🏼 Slow Dancing best buddy ever - every time soothes and holds me. Shower temp just right 👌
That chair looks really uncomfortable lol
I can't watch this without imagining the documentary ;)
Did anyone hear an "um"? I didn't, but this may have been written.
He is sooooooo HOT
Very deep. I'm sure he'd love you
Three timesⓇ. Charming.
+Monika Miklos are you on acid or something? what the shit are you talking about?
He greatly underestimates his vocal ability.
Watch is hands as he's speaking. Seems to always be thinking "through" the guitar.
And this is why JM never release “The Best of JM” Album cause he’s limitless. His learning curve never ending. He will always be an open book. #respect
I know all of this cause I watched the documentary by eastwood
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
❤️❤️❤️❤️

Battle Studies is his "Rocky IV" its where his ego and success got so big the ridiculous amount of production added to placing where john was at his life. I like it ALOT but its also when the douch rumours started to become manifest for me
Yes....the "Swagger" of the Blues. I can get into that. Mixed tape albums. Uh-huh.....that too
What was the date of this interview?
I would guess very late 2009 or early 2010 when "Battle Studies" was released. :)
2010 .
Yea it was the end of 2009 I think. This interview was on the iTunes digital booklet on the deluxe edition of "Battle Studies"
sweet
He penned Who Says??! wow
умный мужик
DA

13:00 John Mayer talks about Taylor Swift
I would never trust You, but I love You :P
So you released an interview about his 2009 album in 2014 ? Okay this makes sense
Man can talk for Kansas
Why is he talking about Battle Studies and not his new albums?
It's funny how at this time friends lovers or nothing was not even published haha
