Upon further (lights on) investigation, the "dark area" was the back of a chair that was black in color, which is different than the rest of the chair. But even with lights on, you can clear see the face still hovering there. I have asked Bryan, the man in charge of the investigation, if he would debunk it for me and let me know what he finds out.
