Just watched, Taria. I hope to do this tomorrow(watching from bed now). It comes at the right time because I've been wondering about nature journaling for those of us who can't be outside much. This is along the same line, so thank you!

Ketches in your new Mung Yo watercolor set, but you used the White Knights watercolor paint for most of the painting. Obviously, you used the Mung Yo paint to fill in the pans in the sketch, but I would have thought you would have used the paint from the set you sketched. Good job of it all. You did exactly what I do on the first page of my watercolor journals. I must admit however that I also add my contact information just in case I lose the journal. I am looking forward to days two through seven. By the way, I did purchase the same set of Mung Yo watercolors. I do like how they saw up on my pages and I find the metal case much easier to control on my board now that I bought some clips with magnets. Much better than the plastic cases I had efore.

I just re-read my last post and man there are too many spelling errors. I know I checked everything before sending it off. I did not believe there was Spell Check or anything like that in this system so I must have missed my own errors. In any case, I still enjoy your work and I am starting to use the MungYo watercolor set. Really good paint for what I do. Much better than the student grades I’ve been taking to the field. Now on to day two.

I'm inspired :-D So, belatedy, I'm going to begin the challenge on Monday, even though my sketchbook hasn't arrived :-( I've got the softcover Stillman & Birn Beta and Zeta coming... plus samples of various Stillman & Birn teeny pads to play with before committing. So, I'll have to tear an arches sheet. It sounds silly probably, but I really wanted to sketch my current tools on the first pages of the sketchbook to rid myself of the fear of messing up a pristine new sketchbook so I'd be able to keep a loose mindset and not beat myself up too much for being subpar... but then that's why I love your videos because mistakes are great learning tools or crazy good learning curves. I've never used sketchbooks before, being new to urban sketching and not having the opportunity to sketch on location this year, so it's in home or in the car (my skinny-knobbly knees on my car dashboard are not inspiring and certainly not attractive to sketch, lol. Just can't get the right angles and composition of some spectacular local views roadside unless I park skew-whiff and I don't want awkward conversations with our hard working Bobbies!). Then again, back to sketching tools, I may repeat the challenges I do on loose paper again when the sketchbook arrives and learn from my mistakes (possible win!) I see others that use social network sites to hashtag and share, and all that stuff, but I haven't ventured into that realm. Can I use those sites so it's private to those I choose? I'm scared of Big Brother!! It constantly amazes me when I get a crazy plethora of stupid ads for, say, bodyshop paint thinners, when I've only looked up the latest advances in car body paint technology once! I digress. Hope you're keeping safe, Taria. As a UK national, I understand you must be under a lot of stress with the rules to come back home, with the new stingent quarantine and testing laws and such. Hope you and yours are doing well whether in SA or UK.

Hi Wen! Ooh I'm so jealous, my S&B Beta sketchbook I bought in Australia is nestled in a suitcase in the UK that I never returned to due to the pandemic! I was actually due to return to the UK on 31 Jan but flights got cancelled, rules changed etc and now I get to stay in South Africa for 2 more months (which I'm very happy about after seeing the photos of snow in the UK today)! I really like to sketch art supplies on the first page of a sketchbook (when I remember). Sure there's not time limits as to when to start this thing, you can wait for your sketchbooks! I have two Arches blocks sat here that I'm too scared to touch because they were so expensive :/ Mmmm don't feel inclined to join those social networks just for this. I hear you - I have been advertised a for things that I have spoken about but not searched for...that always gives me the creeps. Thanks for your well wishes, my family in the UK and SA are all well and safe thankfully. I hope you and your loved ones too!

@@tarias_sketchy_adventuresWas thinking of you when all the banned SA flights hit the news, but now you can spend more quality time with your fiancee...Yay! The white fluffy stuff, beautiful to paint, yet the hound was totally non-plussed to see the snow this morning... I need to take a leaf out of his chilled book, lol.
I love arches paper, especially coldpressed for watercolours (but my fav hot-pressed paper is Fabriano Artistico which I use more often for coloured pencil painting, and for botanical watercolour... just my preferences). I'm new to Arches cold-pressed and I'm enjoying the results. Trouble is my larger (cheap) brushes are pants, they do not hold water and pigment well, so I've been hinting to the hubby for some Rosemary & Co travel brushes. I think I'll be getting a few shortly, lol. My small size brushes, W&N series 7... mega expensive, are perfect for botanical painting (and for my board game miniatures... my Zombies and Runners look cute!) but I need me some bigger brushes and a couple of decent daggers. Oh, that may be a fun video when you get home to your supplies... about brushes and marks they make and all that stuff. The ones you've missed. I'd love to get the escoda reserva you use but they are crazy money for an amateur like me... maybe later. Mind you, the Raphael Kolinsky sable are reasonable and I love the few small sizes I have... again, the bigger the brush the bigger the £££ so I'm not there yet.
Yep, I'm totally with you on expensive papers... it is scary. I'm buying sheets to tear down to size for that reason (plus I like the deckled edge look anyway). Waaaay more economical than blocks or pads. And with tape around the edges, I've not had a problem with buckled paper yet. I've got a sheet of Legion Stonehenge Aqua NOT 300gsm coming too, just to try it out, because it's cheaper than Arches and Fabriano... at least it'll be good for colour swatching/mixing etc. if it doesn't take a lot of water abuse. We'll see. I've also been looking at making my own 'homemade' sketchbooks with papers of choice. Got to think of cost, lol.
Can't wait to receive the S&B, and hope to wax lyrical in the future, lol. And, your week challenge will be my first proper sketchbook start.
Happy to hear you're all safe, sound and happy. Phew! :-)
