    The most thorough and easily understood explanation of Retina lens use I've ever heard. Bravo!

    This was soooo, SOOOOO helpful - THANK YOU! Especially with the 35mm lens, I just bought one and was a bit intimidated about the focus ring and how to sync things up.

    Very helpful, I didn't know about the later lenses with the scale on top, I now have the lenses as discussed and it is much easier as Chris states. Keep it up , Thank you for free education.

    I have these accessory lenses for both the Heligon and Xenon. They are cumbersome to use, but as sharp as the 50mm.

    Hello, Chris
    Just acquired a Kodak Retina IIIS in very fine condition, but because of its age, needs a Clean, Lube & Adjust. The slower shutter speeds are too slow, and that tells me a good cleaning is needed. Do you still do this work and can I send a camera & check to you? If you don’t do this anymore, can you recommend a good technician in the U.S. who can do this work? Really admire this older generation of German-made cameras. Thank you.❤❤😊

    Thanks for your video! Maybe thats a stupid question, but is it possible to use a schneider retina-curtagon 35mm 2.8 on a Retina IIIC?

    I have just acquired a T 1/60 close-up lens and the single scale 80mm Longar. This focusses down to 3.5 feet, not the 6 feet you describe for the two scale version. How do I focus with these two please? Many thanks.

      The 80mmm lens has no focusing capabilities itself, the focus is done with the main focus knob on the shutter. The moving dial on that 80mm lens is simply for displaying the depth-of-field.
      The 80mm lens will focus down to somewhere around 6 feet, and this is at the point where the 50mm lens would be focused at around 2.5 feet.
      I don't have the instruction sheet that doubtless came with the T I/60 originally, but I can take couple of pictures of the scale ring on the later 80mm lens with the T I/60 scale. With the T I/60 in place the 80mm lens will indeed focus down to around 3.5 feet, and this is at the point on the main focus scale at around 28 or 29 inches.I have uploaded a scan of the scale here.

    How to fix "Front Focus" not focusing to infinity on Kodak Retina 143 ??

    • @ChrisSherlock
      @ChrisSherlock  2 роки тому

      There are multiple reasons the image may not be focused at the film plane correctly. Starting from the top, the front or the rear group may not be screwed into the shutter tightly, the shutter may have originally had a shim behind it and this was not put back by a previous repairer, the focus scale ring may have shifted on the outer helical, usually caused by dried-out grease making the helical hard to move, or the struts supporting the front standard may be bent. So... the fix depends on the cause of your particular problem.

      @@ChrisSherlock Setting the time to 1/500, the black ring of the lens turned off because there was a lot of resistance when pulling - a loose lens at the front. I put it in the correct position to the scale with the rangefinder distances. From the inside, I glued a paper tape (imitation of a film) and re-soldered the image as in a camera obscura - I checked the focus. I regulated so that the distances on the scale coincided. I did it by feeling - you have to put on the film.
