  • So, here we are.
    Lower-level windows are in, and the fireplace is roaring. This feels surreal. A lot of you assume I'm a professional cabin builder. But I'm just a kid with a dream, and now I'm sitting inside of it typing this.
    Huge shout out to my sponsor, NICKS. In this episode, I'm wearing the Ridgeline Moc Toe, but honestly, all of their boots are great. Check out Nicks here: bit.ly/422oZ8N
    It's incredible what a wood-burning stove can do to the atmosphere of a cabin. It gives warmth, yeah, but it's so much more. It's a feeling of comfort, security, and company when I'm out here alone. It's also pretty darn nice to have hot water on demand and a stove top to cook on.
    Always happy to chat in the comments, so let me know if you have any questions or want to say hi.

    Smart man going through the wall and not the roof with the stove pipe. I have installed a million pipes over the years and I know better than to run one through the roof

    I put polycarbonate up to enclose a porch at least 15 years ago. So far it is holding up, however, in a couple of other situations (smaller windows), the polycarbonate degrades, especially with extreme temps (I live in Vermont); cold winters and relatively hot summers as of late, and I do have some direct sun exposure, so that has an impact also. You may find it will be fine for several years, but watch the edges carefully as small cracks will appear where the plexi is sealed to your frame. Once the cracks appear, they will run through the plexi and eventually your window will fail. At that point, depending on what you want to do, you could just replace the windows with more polycarbonate, or upgrade to glass.

    Happy and blessed New Year.🎊🎸🍹👍 I love the quality of your construction, you are a craftsman. I am interested in general. Will you live in this house or will it be a vacation home? One side of the deck has most of the weight on the other side. Are you considering building a room for the children?

    I knew it you must be in eastern Manitoba or in western Ontario. I used to work up in the Bisette area and your property looks just like that place. Especially with the black flies I’ll take the mosquitos over them. I used to own an art company in Winnipeg called Monart I did custom picture framing, large format printing on canvas, water colour, and lots of different types of paper. I also did prints, lithographs and proofs for many artist throughout Canada, the United States and abroad. The cabin build is amazing. Happy Easter to you and your family.

    Nice looking cabin! Looks like your stove pipe is upside down, male end goes down. I’d also run class A chimney pipe through that wall and up the side of the cabin on the outside.

    • @TrustinTimber
      @TrustinTimber  8 місяців тому

      I think you are right. I was really struggling to get a proper transition fitting when going from the double wall to a single wall pipie. I'll have to keep a close eye on it and probably take it apart and inspect everything when I clean it in the spring. Works great, except I did see some black drips running down the 6” pipe when I damper the stove all the way down. Always more to learn. Thanks.

    These will scratch easily. I've owned acrylic and glass aquariums. I think you probably would have been better off buying glass from a glass repair place. Maybe even getting show doors and making the windows.

    Hey Cody. Finally, some windows ! Are you not afraid of the heat loss ? Would it be considerable to put a second layer (reducing the width of the wooden rod blocking the actual sheet of plexiglas to slide the other layer of window) to make it like a double glazing ? Gossiping a lil but, I happen to think you've lost weight, are you eating well ? Less green stuff, more meat should do lol.

    Hey Trustin, Great work, i have watched all your videos right from the start. Your design of the settling Log is brilliant. A quick question though, your plexiglass windows… do you think a bear can push those in quite easily? I have witnessed bears pushing on windows a few times. Are these a more durable polycarbonate? Just wondering. From your fellow outdoorsman Canadian. Keep up the brilliant work sir.

  • @robert-zg8or
    @robert-zg8or 8 місяців тому

    Your cabin looks great guy. The plexiglass doesn't have much if any R value but it's not as full time residential structure as you said.
    It looks nice and will provide many great family weekends.
    I do have on question. It's a bit personal so if you don't answer I will understand.
    The reason I ask is I lived in the Philippines for 10 years. Now I live between Cambodia and Thailand. Question is " is your wife fillipina"? Asian women make for a more traditional wife and personally I think they are very nice and excellent cooks. Seriously I think you have to work at getting them mad lol. Great mothers, wives and cooks .

    your windows are going to crack , if you only installed a single pain plexiglass the inside warm zone will heat up the glass while the outside will cool it down ,when it get very cold out side that s when the glass will break warm meats cold it will break .... now i haven,t tried using double plexiglass to keep the warm zone from touching the outer glass , maybe that might work.
