    The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
    Starring alongside Hanks and Butler, award-winning theatre actress Helen Thomson (“Top of the Lake: China Girl,” “Rake”) plays Elvis’s mother, Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge!” “Breath,” “Hacksaw Ridge”) portrays Elvis’s father, Vernon, and DeJonge (“The Visit,” “Stray Dolls”) plays Priscilla. Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “Point Break”) plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham (“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “Lion,” “300”) plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The High Note”) plays B.B. King, Xavier Samuel (“Adore,” “Love & Friendship,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”) plays Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
    Also in the cast, Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things,” “The Broken Heart Gallery”) plays TV director Steve Binder, alongside Australian actors Leon Ford (“Gallipoli,” “The Pacific”) as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany (“The Great Gatsby,” “Hunters”) as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies (“Peter Rabbit,” “Hunters”) as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Camp”) as Billy Smith, Josh McConville (“Fantasy Island”) as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn (“Home and Away”) as Bill Black.
    To play additional iconic musical artists in the film, Luhrmann cast singer/songwriter Yola as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, model Alton Mason as Little Richard, Austin, Texas native Gary Clark Jr. as Arthur Crudup, and artist Shonka Dukureh as Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton.
    Oscar nominee Luhrmann (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”) directed from a screenplay by Baz Luhrmann & Sam Bromell and Baz Luhrmann & Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, story by Baz Luhrmann and Jeremy Doner. The film’s producers are Luhrmann, Oscar winner Catherine Martin (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”), Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. This movie was EPIC --- lost in Austin's portrayal --- literally felt like we were watching Elvis himself especially in the later scenes. Also loved how they merged Austin's elvis with real elvis at the very end. Spotless!

    I’m a HUGE Elvis fan and I was extremely nervous to see the movie- I put it off for several days- it took us driving to three different theaters here in Vegas to find one that wasn’t sold out! Needless to say, whatever they got factually incorrect in the movie just melted away with Austin’s performance - dear Lord that boy had the power of E! I was absolutely blown away! I was a HARD SALE and he sold me 100% and then some! There had better be an Oscar for him! His mom was amazing as well- And I also liked the way Elvis is portrayed- he was a hero and we need one now- thank you for reviving him appropriately 🙏 The movie is visually stunning 🤩 and fades from one era to the next creatively and seamlessly- just such an amazing and spectacular tribute to the King!

    I don’t understand people that say Austin doesn’t look like Elvis. He literally got Elvis’s hair, eyes, lips, gaze, deep voice, mannerism, and vibe. With the make-up and black hair, he does look quite like Elvis. Acting is about embodying a person & capturing their essence & spirit. It’s not always just about “looking” like that person on the surface. At the end of the of the day, an actor is still an artist & a different person, they can’t just morph & turn their face into a completely a different person.

      He, like many, can remind you of Elvis, but he doesn't look like him. Elvis' smile was a huge little boy smile that as they say, lit up a room. He was also much more mature looking in his face even at 21 than Austin is at 30. Even more Austin looks way younger than a 33 year old Elvis on the 68 special

    • @michaelrussek154
      @michaelrussek154 Рік тому

      @@StarrySoakedSky first off it wasn’t not true but rather truth altered and some parts of his life just brushed over. I get you can’t make one movie on Elvis’s entire life. The film would be 10 hours long.
      1.Elvis first house in Memphis wasn’t Graceland. He bought Graceland since he no privacy at his first house at Audubon Drive. It was a west Memphis suburb.
      2. The Russwood park concert in Memphis in 1956 Elvis was not arrested. This was created into the film but he did a concert in Jacksonville Florida in 1956 where he was told to not do much wiggle a finger. There was somewhere in 56 as well where he was taken away into a police car to escape a frenzy riot.
      3. The 68 comeback special wasn’t done behind colonel Parker’s back as portrayed. The colonel wanted it to be a Christmas special but Elvis along with Steve Binder convinced him it would be better to do the special their way. There were no two sets and production being hidden. That’s a farce. However the colonel made Elvis promise to sing at least one Christmas song. He sang one in the informal sit down with the original band.
      4. Lastly Elvis didn’t fire Colonel Parker as portrayed. Many close to Elvis said he did fire him in 1973 for a day over An employee that was fired at the International. Elvis went on stage the next night and told the audience of the situation and asked the international hotel to do better and give the employee his job back. The colonel then told Elvis that he needed to take back what he said and Elvis fired him. Many books I have read by Elvis confidants over the years mostly agree that yes The colonel asked Vernon for back money they didn’t have and Elvis took the colonel back. Elvis was known to fire many people around him when he was mad and upset but never really serious about it changing his mind usually the next day.

    Elvis' earlier 1950's dress sense marks him as a true style icon. And it feels particularly relevant today - Cuban collar shirts, wide-legged, pleated trousers, blousons - these are all garments making the rounds on the menswear circuit, but they were also integral to Elvis’ 1950s style wardrobe. He did it all first.

    Brilliant. NOBODY looks identical to Elvis Presley. God made ONLY 1. So casting for Elvis' part must have seemed nearly impossible. Any hiring of an Elvis imitator would have stigmatized the entire movie as a meme. Have enough of those floating around. But THIS HIRE... AUSTIN BUTLER ... is making a NEW GENERATION of Elvis fans. ... by the MILLIONS already. This was a VERY GOOD IDEA and the Elvis fanbase benefits greatly and Elvis' legacy marches on. WINNER.
    That film has got Oscar written all over it. It will win 3 Oscars minimum and be nominated for dozens of awards all over the world. This real story will make millions of new young fans. Elvis was a YOUTH MOVEMENT more than anything. And that energy turned right into the civil rights movement and changed the world. Austin Butler will nab one of those Oscars for sure. This movie "Elvis" just made him the newest top shelf Superstar in the movie industry.

    Ok fans, these interviews and the stars are what Hollywood was all about and it somehow got lost….now in a unique way it’s back….I was lucky to experience the Elvis world he created back in the 50’s ….black & white television appearances, buying his 45’s for 39 cents, going to see Love Me Tender in a movie palace, that’s right a movie palace in Washington Heights, New York….years later Elvis live in Madison Square Garden…fast forward 3 1/2 years ago I began writing my book, never knowing that this monumental movie was in the works…Of course I haven’t seen the movie yet, only the trailers but the new book Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar gives an accurate account of why Elvis deserves an Oscar for not only his 31 movies but for his unequaled contributions to the movie industry. On another note everyone who had the opportunity to see Elvis movies in the theaters when they were originally released always came away with a unique and gratifying movie experience. Elvis was not only a movie star but a great actor also. Austin Butler will absolutely win the Oscar for his performance in “Elvis”. This is the movie you must see, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar is the book you must read, 536 pages with a great cover. It’s time Hollywood recognized Elvis for his contributions to the movie industry…when Austin Butler gets his Oscar next year and he will, Hollywood needs to right the ship and give one to Elvis. For those who say I’m wrong, for those who want to criticize these feelings, remember what you are witnessing is coming from the greatness that Elvis possessed……Elvis never really left the building, he is forever right there in our minds and hearts….as Ed Sullivan would say “tonight this is going to be a really really big show right here on our stage, Elvis……Presley………

      I have always believed there was a unjust snobbery towards Elvis in Hollywood. How did you not hear about the movie before you did Baz announced it in 2014 ,obviously took a lot of work behind the scenes to get it up and running. I will definitely be seeing the Movie I hope Austin does get a Oscar for his performance. Personally I can't see them doing that for Elvis himself but it would be a great honour.

      @@johanley229 Thanks for your reply, the reason I didn’t hear about it sooner was, I have no Facebook , Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media platforms. I focus on sports, namely football another thing me and Elvis were always passionate about. My book was written with the hope that his fans of the past and the new ones that will become ones due to the movie will start a movement to get the Academy aware of the total worth of Elvis’s contributions as I have already reintegrated. Last year they gave several Humanitarian Oscars and without a doubt Elvis is as deserving without question compared to the ones they have given in the last two or three decades. Once again thanks.

    Elvis started using drugs in the army back in 1957.
    Check this out
    In 1970 Elvis writes to President Nixon (the I am not a crook guy) and offers his services to help combat illicit drug use in the USA.
    Elvis mentioned that he knew a lot about drugs and was accepted by the hippies.
    He said he could go right into a group of young people or hippies and be accepted which he felt could be helpful to him in his drug drive.
    Nixon and Elvis exchanged pleasantries and agreed that “those who use drugs are in the vanguard of American protest.”
    In 1977 Elvis dies of drug overdose and drug abuse.
    Putting Elvis in charge of speaking on narcotic abuse is like leaving Dracula in charge of the blood bank.
    Hypocrisy: What is an example of hypocrisy?

    Why were his post Priscilla serious relationships not included in this movie? He was divorced from Priscilla and had moved on with Linda Thompson first, then Ginger Alden, to whom he was engaged! It makes the movie historically inaccurate to omit these important details of his life!

    • @erikalulea3608
      @erikalulea3608 2 роки тому

      Because in the end of the day, Priscilla was his true love. Do not get me wrong, Ginger is my second favorite after Priscilla, but I Elvis lived I am very sure that he and Priscilla would have gone back to each other. Ginger was a look a like and I am very sure that the deepest part of his heart was Priscillas only.

    • @xdra31
      @xdra31 Рік тому

      @@erikalulea3608 With all due respect that’s just speculative nonsense! I choose to believe facts, and fact is, Elvis was engaged to Ginger Alden, and even had her engagement ring custom made from a diamond out of his own ring. The ring being the evidence which corroborates this. I’m not against Priscilla, don’t get me wrong, I get that she is the person who probably knew Elvis the best and she quite rightly should be at the forefront of anything relating to him. But that’s as far as it should go. They were divorced and Elvis was planning to marry someone else, so this fairytale concoction of an undying love between him and Priscilla is just that, a fairytale, it’s not based on any reality. Not including his relationship with Ginger (or Linda) in this movie is like rewriting history and creating a false narrative that those events were not important parts of his life, when clearly they were! That’s a distortion of the truth and makes the movie lose all credibility for me!

    The only way to play this kind of role right is by method acting. Otherwise, you're just doing a caricature or impression. I don't get that sense here and that's why Austin Butler has maintained the southern accent since the film. He's basically been Elvis for 2 years. It's similar to Johnny Depp moving to France and picking up an "accent" to Americans. If the guy immersed himself in that life, it's not surprising he'd sound like that. It will wear off with the next movie - unless he plays another southern guy. Just cast him in the next Bill and Ted movie and it'll be like he never left Anaheim, dude.

    To bad they didnt really speak to everyone still alive who actually lived with elvis like billy smith and his family who are elvis's actual family for this film. baz decided to put billy in the movie then didn't actually talk to the real billy smith who is still alive june 2022. Baz literally interviewed sam elvis's friend from tupelo extensively but couldnt be bothered to drive an hour up the road to talk with the smith family who were there elvis's whole life till the day he died. Never contacted billy once even to ask permission to use his name in the movie. Shameful. I bet baz didnt even interview any of Elviss girlfriends who are still alive especially june juanico about the jacksonville concert in the movie. baz claims to have done all this research as well as austin and yet they still get the facts wrong multiple times even in the dang trailers. Elvis had to stand still during the jacksonville fl concert or he would have been arrested. In june jaunicos book she states he only moved pinky and shook his leg a little then cursed the cops at the end of the concert in the microphone under his breath. He didnt rebel and dance anway like the movie leads you to believe. If they actual read every book out there they would know that. Just tell the freakin truth of events. Elvis doesnt need you movie producers to embellish his amazing story. Another movie getting the facts wrong.

      If the entire Presley family were in tears due to Austin’s representation along with Jerry Schilling one of his closest inner circle then everyone of us has mere opinions and perceptions; Austin said his main objective was to honor the legacy and the family, and he did that in spades.👍👍

      Well it's called artistic licence to show the effect Elvis had!! Asfor not speaking or asking permission Baz doesn't need to ask permission for him to be featured in the movie ,I'd take it a positive he is as not all of them are featured because its not just a biopic like Baz has said so many times it's about youth culture in the 50s 60s and 70s and its based on the relationship between Parker and Elvis.

      According to Elvis’ family and probably closest confidant, Jerry Schilling, Austin has been the first one to capture the person of Elvis, and that is what mattered most to him. Jerry and Priscilla looked at each other in Canne and said, “WOW”, and Lisa Marie said that was her dad. The details mean nothing if the essence of the person is all wrong; according to those who knew him best, Austin provided that in spades. I hope you find an aspect of this movie tribute to appreciate just as his family and one of his best friends has found; for them, Austin’s portrayal meant the world to them, according to them.😊
