Once the McLaren's pitted, Ferrari had nothing to lose. Lewis was too far back, so even if they had to pit they'd probably end up 3 & 4. It was a real hero or zero play by Ferrari to try and give the tifosi what they wanted. Impressive

I was multi-monitoring the race on F1TV. I had Charles's on-board on. You have no idea mate. The way he was straight lining parabolica, the feel and positioning of the car in the lesmos... everything was a masterclass in tyre whispering! I tell you this is Schumacher level driving. This will go up on the Marranello Hall of fame I kid you not. His performance engineers and the whole team including Jock Clear will be very proud. Charles is Special. He certainly is. Please give this drive the hype it deserves.

I think Ferrari used Sainz as a decoy. They made the one-stop look slow, got the others to pit twice and then LeClerc zoomed off to victory on a one-stop. I’m willing to die on this hill!

The one stop was slow for Sainz though… He pitted a lot later than the top 3 but tyres fell off a lot a the end, he got overtaken by both Mclarens quite easily. Charles was just a masterclass in tyre management
Leclerc's tire management is great for a while now but in this race it's insane. And he is so fast while doing it. McLaren was faster, yet he saved tyres more than them and still kept contact with them. Charles for me is ready for a championship. He gets all the emotional wins where the pressure is extremely high on him. In Monaco, in Monza. He withstands the pressure.
Back in the day I was a Jos fan. I was at 135 bpm at the start of a GP once when he was with Benetton. Just sitting on the couch. It was probably less a few months later when I stood at the Kemmel braking zone.

I don’t think that Piastri had the tyres to make it to the end. Leclerc was catching by a couple tenths a lap before he pitted. I’m disappointed that Piastri didn’t win, but he still needs to be better with tyre management.
Except they 100% did. They gave up track position when leading which is just silly. They could have split the strategies, Piastri stays out, Lando comes in to try and catch Leclerc. Best case it's 1-2, worst case it's the same as it was today

Absolutely loved every second of this video. During the last 5 laps of the race I was with many tears filling my eyes. I’m a huge huge huge TIFOSI like you Matt and watching this video today made me re-live the same emotions as yesterday. How awesome of a feeling was it when we looked at the timing boards and realised that, “fuck me, we’re gonna win Monza with Charles at the wheel”! It was nearly 1am in Melbourne as I was watching and recording the race. There was a huge storm happening as the race was ending and I had one leg out of bed praying that the power wasn't going to go out. Just as they finished the podium, the shit hit the fan big time here.....power went out, and stayed out until 5pm the next day. Rapt for CL/Ferrari/Matt and Oscar.

I love that Tommy said “If that’s allowed” about Oscar’s move. Lando said after the race that basically it wasn’t within Papaya rules so he didn’t defend/expect it. The “You need Oscar” is aging worse and worse
Considering Zack Brawn said on sky that it was withing papaya rules I am not sure we can take what he said at face value. Lando was probably pissed that it was another pole with a lost win. In the end if they dont make clear calls they cant expect either driver to not go for it and it looks like Oscar got a no-#2 clause in his contract so he can race Lando.

Exactly. Piastri has a long long career ahead of him. He needs to make sure he's not perceived as the #2 driver. He's got a championship mentality. It shows in how he speaks. Always wants to maximize. He wants to make sure he's perceived as championship material, either driving for McLaren or for someone else down the road. Sacrificing good standing with Lando for his entire future is exactly what the doctor prescribed.
That's BS, I think Oscar could win outright next year and it would be an even playing field, but right now Lando's the only one who has a chance of catching Max and McLaren and Oscar just aren't being team players after Lando gave up Hungary for Piastri's first win. you NEVER stop first leading the race, with the gap they had they just had to wait for Leclerc to pit or not, Piastri had 1 lap younger tyres...
The calculation was 10s off. They turned a 5sec lead (before 2nd stop) into 5sec behind at the end.

I love that Tommy said “If that’s allowed” about Oscar’s move. Lando said after the race that basically it wasn’t within Papaya rules so he didn’t defend/expect it. The “You need Oscar” is aging worse and worse

Considering Zack Brawn said on sky that it was withing papaya rules I am not sure we can take what he said at face value. Lando was probably pissed that it was another pole with a lost win. In the end if they dont make clear calls they cant expect either driver to not go for it and it looks like Oscar got a no-#2 clause in his contract so he can race Lando.

Exactly. Piastri has a long long career ahead of him. He needs to make sure he's not perceived as the #2 driver. He's got a championship mentality. It shows in how he speaks. Always wants to maximize. He wants to make sure he's perceived as championship material, either driving for McLaren or for someone else down the road. Sacrificing good standing with Lando for his entire future is exactly what the doctor prescribed.
That's BS, I think Oscar could win outright next year and it would be an even playing field, but right now Lando's the only one who has a chance of catching Max and McLaren and Oscar just aren't being team players after Lando gave up Hungary for Piastri's first win. McLaren are just a bunch of clowns.
