OK. Here is the backstory on this guitar:
I work at Sweetwater. This Warmoth build was my lockdown build. I had originally bought a J. Mascis Squier, and had bought the Mastery bridge for it. Long story short, it didn't fit, so it sent me down the rabbit Hole of this guitar!
The body, neck and and pick guard are Warmoth. The body is black because it was cheap and so am I. The neck is roasted flame maple with a Kingwood fretboard. Stainless frets. The tuners are gold sperzels that I had laying around. I added the gold screws because I wanted something to match the tuners. It is, and was meant to be, a complete Frankenstein.
The pickups are Curtis Novaks, and they are amazing.
The electronics are Emerson
The bridge and and trem are both Mastery.
The Squier backplate was completely tongue in cheek, and It was meant to be completely silly.
I had traded this guitar in to purchase a Luke III. When this guitar didn't sell for 60 days (because many think it is ugly as sin), I bought it back. So glad I did.

The 325 is the sound of 63-66 era Beatles songs. That clack, deep low end and attack from the flat wounds are essential to the way the instrument sounds. When a friend got his 325, it came with round wounds, but he soon found that only the flats would give him the Beatles/CCR/REM tones he was looking for. Made a huge difference. Same goes for the strings on the Hofner Violin Basses. Lousy with round wounds, but flat wounds really change the instrument. I'm glad you found a Rickenbacker you like...the 325 is my favorite guitar of all time. Lightweight, small size, and full of punch.
A violin bass with round wounds is a very bright, but not unusable tone, definitely not right if you are looking to nail an authentic tone of the Beatles.. but if you are looking for something you haven't really heard too much of..
@@boseefusmacmurphy1156 that's fair enough. But at that time we were looking for some retro 60's tones and those rounds just weren't cutting it. I believe the brand we used was Pyramid.
John Fogerty played one quite a bit in the early CCR days. Stuck a Gibson Humbucker in the bridge and a Bigsby on his. Don't know if he played the other two pickups much.

@@davidcudlip6587 he typically played all 3 pickups together which retained that twangy swamp rock sound that cut through. The Gibson hum bucker he added really didn’t alter the sound dramatically other than it had more output, but you can honestly get mostly the same sound from a regular 325 with the same settings/amps he played with.
Funny that it's the little 325 that turned out to be the one you like as most people are annoyed by that model in particular. Glad to have mine.
The Rickenbacker 325 is known for sounding good with flatwound strings . Because the attack of the pick is sounding beautiful and it sounds just like the Beatles 😎

Lennon played flat wounds on his ric, and many people use that as the gold-standard, so it’s not unusual to find one set up with flat wounds.
The 325 was my sole electric since '98. Had to sell it in 2014 and broke my heart to do it. Replaced it with the one in my profile pic, an '83 320 that I modified because stock was total shit and so was the wiring. Now, it's a killer guitar. The 60CH groups know my guitar by now. I'm happy you like the 325. I was surprised considering how many people aren't comfy on such a teeny scale. You should get one eventually. It's not an afforable guitar but 325 retain their value moreso than guitars. Rics sound so good doing surf, by the way😉
Sweetwater’s trade-in section usually has a couple gems that are super interesting. Plus their trade in values are very fair and transparent. Planning on trading in a few things later this year.
On the warmoth guitar, the side adjustment on the neck it a device made by Gotoh. You have the truss rod main adjustment at the end of the heal, and the side adjustment for minor adjustments.
This comes down to one of your last statements on the Rickenbacker. A small part of me has always wanted one, but the much larger part of me has never wanted to pay for one. They are probably one of the most unique major brand out there, they do what they do very well but they aren't the everyman guitar. I respect that, and that really hasn't hurt them over the years either

That's the only guitar I play and had one for years. I play guitar because of Lennon. Of course I have a modded 320 now, but when I'm able to, I'm getting my old 325 again.
It is against the law to dislike Rickenbacker guitars. The law of good taste.

That 325 Rick is the early LENNON guitar. 3/4 size. I played one once and I was surprised I liked the neck too...its cool..an iconic instrument.
When you picked up that Ric 325 I was screaming in my head, "Strum a B7...Now an Emaj7...and ooh, ooh, an F#m.."
Lol, these are all well known Beatles chords from the early Mop Top era and you were holding a guitar someone had obviously set up just like John Lennon's.
It was such a great find, but I'm sure that SW no longer has it on the shelf after the recent Beatles' guitar binge that followed the "Get Back" documentary.
Especially the binge on the Epiphone Casino-that model, in particular, seems to be the current focus on many, many players hence its recent popularity.

I love the 325. It's actually a semi-hollow body but looks solid as there are no f-holes. Flatwounds are essential in my opinion and the plate over the bridge saddles can be easily taken off, as most of us Rick players do that to get better muting and strumming access closer to the saddles. The 620 is also super nice, as I think it's one of the few solid body that Rickenbacker makes. You might like that one as well.
I have a Rickenbacker 360 six string fireglo which I love.
That finish on the Schecter reminds of the Todd Mcfarlane Spider Man #1 cover. Glad to see that cable went behind on that one
I don't think most Ric players would be opting for flatwounds. Definitely interesting. That is like John Lennon's preferred style of guitar for much of the early years, I believe.
Lennon had 4 of them: '58 325 Capri, Miami 325, 325/12 and Rose Morris version which he gave to Ringo in '68.
Flatwounds are fantastic on the 12 string RICs because the silent chord changes enhances the chime.

I have wanted a Rickenbacker forever and the 325 is my favorite. The problem is they are *fairly rare and very expensive so it makes it hard to pull the trigger on one. One of the ones I almost bought from Sweetwater had a very short scale length ( like 21 or 22 inches ) which would be very cool , but may cause issues as well with tuning stability and string choice.
The longer scale 350 (or 355) might suit you better
I have a Danelectro 7-string that I absolutely love. It marries modern low-end with vintage jangle.
I found out the hard way that when you bug a Warmoth neck they don’t do a crown and level before they ship it. It makes a huge difference. I have a partscaster speced to the max that I bought used and hated it until I spent $225 at my tech. Now it is beautiful.
First time I was introduced to the 325 was in Beatles rock band in 2009, started watching more stuff on it and ended up falling in love. I didn’t get to touch one until 9 years later on vacation in California. I’ve only held and played 2 but once I get a car I’m gonna save up for one.
I own a 620-6 and a 330-12.

Just picked up a toaster pickup from the Creamery, through it in an old Pacifica, and got that Rick sound. Flats are the next step!

Yes but I think I'm right in saying that John recorded each one of those songs with his Gibson J160e.

@@chrisst8922 studio compression and plate reverb and george martin skills go and went along way. J 160e's actually have a pretty crappy sound, Tom Bucovac talked about one in a Video. plus John Lennon was so used to it, playing it like 2 to 3 years on his 58 in Clubs, prior to their breakout fame. The guitar does not look as Small on John lennon, it is a small size guitar. I liked the george harrison 12 string I had, should have kept it, I call it a Cadillac, it just felt right to my playing hands. Ryan called the 325 a baritone Mandolin, that was pretty funny. The Beatles for sale album is loaded with the gibson j acoustics, they must have really set up the sound well on those. Probably played thru the AC30's, and not mic'd like Good Acoustics. See if you can find the UNCLE LARRY Bucovac video, 501 chorusecho channel. The tom video would be hard to find, I just tried. Hopefully you are familiar with TB uncle larry, it is in one of his Homeschoolin videos. one where he is playing another type acoustic guitar.
flatwounds are definitely compulsory on 325s
I'm about 90 minutes away from Sweetwater and really enjoy going there from time-to-time. I take to time to browse the used -- as well as new -- guitars. I feel like a kid in a candy store.
Flat wounds sound amazing on my Gibson ES 140 3/4 size.
I live in an area where outside of the 2 Guitar Centers (an hour's drive apart from each other), there are only a few local shops, and tons of pawn shops. Reliable used gear is hard to find down here. I bought a Squier Strat at a pawn shop purely for the reason of figuring out if I really needed to add Strat tones to my gear, was able to haggle them down on the price, and it turned out to be a pretty decent little player after a deep clean, adding some springs to the trem and new strings. It's always the subject of my mad scientist mod fantasies that will happen one day. But having a used shop like Sweetwater where they will probably actually test the equipment beyond plugging it in to see if "the light turns on", that's amazing. I've often wondered if my wife could find a job in Ohio if I threw in the towel on teaching and said I'm going to work at Sweetwater and we're moving. (This happens daily. I'm a teacher.)
Sounds like your in Orlando?, I would have the same description Tons of Pawn Shops. 2 guitar Centers, the one is ran really well, and nice to go into, a youtuber on here is their guitar tech. the other is in Winter park, it used to be OK, but recently does not appear to be run well, lousy stock, place even has a Rundown look, and Winter Park is not a cheap place to live in central florida. We used to have a couple great so called Mom and Pop shops. guitar den on Orange ave, south of orlando, great for Used Guitars and amps. And the recent closed Guitar Factory, who were beloved to most area guitar players, they built and serviced instruments and were always quite busy.
It's definitely the trust adjustment and they work great that way, personally prefer that method to the trust rod at the head or God forbid the bottom side nobody likes to remove n ultra tight fender neck I only see a neck pocket becoming looser over time that way 2nd faves when put it at the last fret with the wheel sunk in on the fretboard
I'm also aware of that tool so you don't have to remove but still a pain
You tempted me with that short scale Rickenbacker. My admittedly hobbit-sized fingers long to touch one...😵💫

I've had rics for a long time and they really, really shine in the higher strings.
But I find that a lot of dudes who review them naturally play on the lower strings. It's like they miss the real brightness of them.
but I will say that he's right about the low end. I almost never play on the neck pickup alone. it's way too full for my tastes.
If you want really great higher tones of a ric, listen to things like 7 Chinese bros., or pretty persuasion on r.e.m.'s reckoning.

That Rickenbacker has a 20 inch scale length like a Strat Mini. It’s basically a child’s guitar
Even shorter actually, assuming that a 3/4 strat mini is somewhere sound 22 inches, and the 325 being 20 and 3/4 inches, as the owner of a 5/8 scale acoustic, it's definitely a strange feeling coming from a regular guitar!
That rick really have a shamisen-like quality on the bridge.

Rick is the most stylish guitar I've ever seen. I've never owned a guitar like this, but I would buy it for its looks alone. At the same time, I find that its sound is also very beautiful, the signal is clear, clear and with a strong personality, it is really very pleasant. I think it can easily be used for punk rock or grunge, just by putting a double pickup in there
Flatwounds are key to get good sounds out of Rickenbacker 325s and 360/12.
So, I just want to say, making your logo shirt cheaper than the rest of your items is the simplest and smartest of marketing that I wish more people understood and practiced. Long time viewer, first time not naked. Cycle on, good sir.
I actually like/appreciate that you play a lot of Surf-toned stuff. It's a nice change from the usual heavy rock and metal everyone else seems to play. I'm a metal head/musician myself, but it's nice to have a break from the CHUG CHUG. ♥
I’ve been playing my 325 for 21 years. Flat wound strings are all you should use. Other wise round wound will eat the frets.
The one complaint a lot of tall guys have on Ricks is the smaller nut width necks. Try a 650 or 660 and you can get a 1 3/4 neck instead of the thinner ones.
I just picked up an Epiphone Invader in their used section for $90. It's a really fun little guitar.

I would say that the other Rickenbackers needed a set-up, yeah they are quirky but every one I've ever played has been super easy to play even with heavier strings . The weirdest Rick I ever played was in the music store I gave lessons in during the 80s, a solid body shaped like a 4001 bass with Rickenbacker humbuckers and slanted bridge nut and frets, slanted like a fanned fret guitar but all one direction just at an angle to normal ,, very weird , it was just beautiful burst very red into pinkish white on natural, just completely unique color. My favorite thing about ricks is that even though they're almost all maple construction they really use very plain un-figured wood and aren't extremely heavy either except for the basses , that weird solid body slanted fret guitar was heavy but not Les Paul heavy. You probably would have loved that super quirky guitar
In my experience, Rics are decidedly inconsistent in quality. They all look good, but their sound and playability varies wildly.
My former '96 325v63 was the best guitar I ever owned. It was solid, balanced and intonation was spot on. Broke my heart when I had to sell it in '14. At least I am friends with the person who owns it and can buy it back when I'm able to.
Agree. I have never felt any two feel the same, and while some might say that's good, I'm saying this coming form a place where over 27 years a player, I've played not one that was good off the wall. For their price, just forget about them. Many guitars do stereo now.
They require a ton of complicated maintenance. I met a guy a few years back that set his up before every show, and owning 2 myself, I can see why.
Every Ric I've ever played felt great when it was properly cared for, and much less good when it wasn't.
I'm sure there is still variation in build quality, but I would suspect the maintenance is a bigger issue. It's the main reason I switched to playing Fenders.
@@daveherz998 sorry to say this, but your statement is a total lie. I have 2 Ric 360/12 strings. No more maintenance than any of my strats or anything else for that matter. Sorry again, it just isn’t true.

@@mrbigg7255 Yeah, that's nice. Maybe you live in a much more stable climate? I got my 4003 back from being setup a month ago, and it was out in a week.
Also, a lot of models have double truss rods, which are harder to use than singles, and the bridges on both the 4003 and my 620 are a bit trickier than most of my Fenders. The 4003 bridge is actually a huge pain, so that alone would constitute "more" than a strat. Technically, if you're using yours as 12 strings, the tuning alone would count as more maintenance than your strat, so I'm not sure why you feel the need to be a dick about it.
It's great for you that you're happy with minimum service on yours, but calling my statement a "total lie" is beyond overkill.
Again, I love both of mine, but they're known as "Ricketybackers" for a reason
Yeah. I also found Rickenbacker 'unique', 'weird' whilst 'retaining their 60s charm'. So much so that I exchanged it for a better guitar within 6 months. ;)
They’re not for everybody man, me personally I bought one used 5 years ago and now own 7. They just feel right to me and sound great. I have yet to have a bad experience. To each their own!
They're not for everyone. If you don't have an affinity for them, then people tend to sell them. Upside is that models like the 325 not only retain their value they continue to appreciate, so it's a rainy day investment piece.
Yeah. A lot of players upgrade from the 6 string models to the 12 string RICs once they realise they mistakenly purchased the wrong model in the first place ;)

Depending on where you plug it In be prepared for it to trip your breaker, heaters take a lot of power and sharing a circuit with other power hungry devices can be problematic.

In the early 1970s, we could encounter even strange ideas in the USSR. For example, tuning the truss rod through the neckplate and body.
At that time, I grew out of a mandolin into a guitar. 🤓

Flatwounds on a Ric gives it that 60's British sound. Of course everyone played flatwounds then. Ric (Or some other company) makes a compressed roundwound string now. Think they leave the factory with those.
Holy Crap! I Play C Standard and lower, and Even I hate anything above 6 strings and fan fretted. I have no idea how a ginger Surfy Bear could play that thing! Hahahaa. If I had that finish, the streaks would be neon orange or green!
Flat wounds are good on all Rics.
I always preferred roundwonds on mine. I never cared for having to duplicate every minute detail for Beatle guitars. I'm getting back my exact 325v63 that I sold 9 years ago.
First thing to go is the goddamn flatwounds and dropping 10 or 11 rounds. Can't do bends with flats all that much.
