I first became aware of Burghley House from the 1985 video series featuring Lady Victoria Leatham and John Julius Norwich. It appears that so much work has been done since that time. I'm glad to see the estate has been so well maintained.
This is my new favorite show. I've been a Tudor "groupie" for years, but I stumbled upon Queen Victoria as a recommendation from a dear librarian. I don't know why, but I just find Victoria so interesting. From her self discovery of her royal future, her love of and her pursuit of Albert, to the way people loved her. I'm so jealous of the two hosts! They are the perfect for the job they do on this show. It's so relaxing and uplifting, very refreshing. There are certainly enough places around England and Scotland that Victoria and company visited to make more than one season and I hope they do! 😊
I love this series! I can tell how many times I've watched it because it's been a show where I feel grounded. I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks and watching it gets my mind set back in the past. Anxiety is also a fear of the future. I only wish they, I mean Tim, Rosemary and Ivan could come back on a new show. They make a great team! Thank you for sharing the series. 🤗
Oh, to have a house worthy of a visit from the Queen! What a great story. That ginger bread is gorgeous. Can't believe, tho, that they are touching those old documents without appropriate gloves, and letting people actually wear the livery! Very well done. A nice balance of history and gossip ;o)
That „cat-like“ creature, he mentioned, that is in the painting of the hell stairway, it reminds me not of a cat, but of Fuchur from Never ending Story! Just without the spiky teeth.
17:00 - I'd really want to know how people sleeping on those sky-high ridiculous beds protected themselves from rolling off them in their sleep and falling to their death.
I love these videos so much, I wish the recipes to all of the foods she made were listed out in the description, I may one day go back and rewatch all of these just to make a new book of recipes
I knew Victoria and Albert were in love but it also seemed they liked each other. I loved my boyfriend of 33 1/2 years but more importantly we liked each other. He passed over 4 years ago from a stroke but I still love him and I still like him.
Myself and mother as well as her mother before her tell our children I like you I love you goodnight. When my children grew and moved out they would call every night so I would tell them .
This is my favorite of the house s so far. But I must say the most organized household accounts I have seen are from President Jeffersons . I think if he had had more sons instead of daughters his family would still be very prominent both in landownership, science & politics. Unfortunately daughters didn't receive the same treatment back then. Not allowed to sit in on discussions after dinner ect. Different education etc, very sad.
Jefferson was not avaricious enough to found a dynasty. He always succeeded in spending more money than he was capable of or was willing to dedicate his life to bringing in.
If Victoria had a young baby she would probably have been far more interested in a good sleep in that fancy bed than "billing and cooing" or "horizontal PT"
I was scrolling down to see if anyone else noticed 👍and me being especially pedantic if she first came at the age of 18 then 1844 was 7 years later not 9 as stated on the video.
Turtle soup is still eaten here. Also fried turtle.....roasted turtle...etc. I had turtle once. I did not care for it. My brother was a great fisherman. He had a friend and ex music teacher that loved turtles so much he would drive 70 miles just one way to come get one if my brother got one. He would bring my brother a big bag of sweets.my brother was only about 10.

Rosemary has never heard of docking? I’m nobody’s pastry chef and I know what docking is. I thought it was a common phrase. Maybe it’s an American thing?
The large "cat" swallowing the souls of sinners is what artists call 'The Hell Mouth", and it's got a long tradition. It is rather Catholic but artistes could get away with it. It comes in many varieties.
We are making ginger cookies...let's taste with a finger, and stick that dirty finger back into the dough without washing...good grief...imagine the Victorian cooks who never wash their hands all those diseases that could have been prevented.
The history of this house is so very interesting but unfortunately the presentation is the cheesiest I've ever seen and truly, it doesn't have to be. Infantile and graceless are other words which also describe this awful production.
I love watching these before bed…good history like a window to the past and it’s very relaxing
Absolutely! I enjoy these videos as well.
Me too! On accident I have classically conditioned myself to sleep to these twos voices.....😂
Me too ❤️
Same here!!
Same!
They're adorable and funny. Bring me smile with their joy to see all those historical place and things. I like it when they're co-host together.
Another wonderful documentary with Rosemary and Tim! I could watch these two all day!
Me too, Judy! I love them and everything is so interesting!
I simply LOVE their chemistry and friendship!
This is without a doubt the prettiest estate she visited. Magnificent.

Agree with you!
Such a fun, educational, video. Thank you for posting.

I love these two! But I have to keep from drooling during the kitchen segments.
Tim’s voice is Pavlovian…. When I hear it I become increasingly more interested in antiques and history….
What a great documentary and video thanks so much it was really interesting.
Fish and guests are very much alike....after 3 days they begin to stink.
I know that’s right even earlier if you ask me
@@janiehelms4895 it's about 3 hours for some fish...and guests! 😉
i always envy Rosemary so much .... those kitchens!!!
Amazing Documentary to WATCH Anywhere Anytime

Thank you very much!!!! Beautiful channel!!!
The royal potty stairs LMAO
We’ve visited burley house it’s amazing inside and beautiful gardens well worth a visit
The gingerbread sounds fantastic. Does anyone have a recipe for something like this?
I am so obsessed with these videos 🤩
That „cat-like“ creature, he mentioned, that is in the painting of the hell stairway, it reminds me not of a cat, but of Fuchur from Never ending Story! Just without the spiky teeth.
17:00 - I'd really want to know how people sleeping on those sky-high ridiculous beds protected themselves from rolling off them in their sleep and falling to their death.
It's exactly the same as sleeping on any bed, isn't it?
Fantastic!!!

Yes. Domestic history of the super-rich and famous in victorian Britain.
Me too, I'd try some of them!
Luxery by simplicity just perfect 😂
Shout out to Ivan. He rocks.
I was hoping the recipe for the gingerbread would be listed or linked
Why don't you give the recipe here with the info about the video ?
A delight to watch and discover through your eyes!
(Rosemary I worry about your back ….foot support Chef)

Apparently, Rosemary forgot about the docking of the shortbread in a previous episode....

True.
Jefferson was not avaricious enough to found a dynasty. He always succeeded in spending more money than he was capable of or was willing to dedicate his life to bringing in.
This guy sounds exactly like GEORGE SANDERS - fantastic voice.....

“Built in 1555 … during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.”
No, that would be the reign of Queen Mary (1553-1558).

Where is here
Some renovated and decorated for Royalty to visit but there were no Royal visitors to come.
Imagine poor kids climbing those stairs?!
Far too many adverts again!!
Marvellous xoxo
Is it my eyes or the Camera; the painting in Heaven’s Room looks 3D ? Or it is indeed the painting technique?
My great-grandma was named Queen Alice Angelina Isabella Victoria Rose Funchess.

The very jarring(!) introductory music made me want to close the video.
Ugh! Its so funny, I actually have a vintage bed stair. Its a wooden piece you van move around. Its too quaint 😊
Victoria was probably in there praying she wasn't pregnant again.
She is the best Britidh monarch.
Rosemary has never heard of docking? I’m nobody’s pastry chef and I know what docking is. I thought it was a common phrase. Maybe it’s an American thing?
Who finished the gingerbread?
Lol. These two are so fun loving. But then he made a ribald comment.
Okay.
This woman is Creepy.
The turtle skulls are ghoulish......
Neat "real history"
Turles dont have a skeleton do they? Except for their head.
Did rosemary just rubbed the dry ingredients with the hand she used to taste candied peel without washing it??? Ew. Very unhygienic.
Butlers valets & footmen
