i think dwm it`s not really for a newbie, because in dwm if you need configure something you need to change the source code directly, and in i3wm, for example, you have a pretty understandable config file. maybe it`s just for me
Dwm was my first window manager, and all my friends used dwm as first. I have seen so many .. so many people .. who use it first. I believe it's simple. Just get the build. And done.
i'm a newbie too and I started with dwm, it's very tough at the very start but now was able to patch with what I need, my favorite patch is xrdb which I was able to change the colorschemes just by doing my keybinding.
@@bugswriter_ libxft package was not in the AUR repo. i also tried searching for iscol in dmenu directroy but i can't find that. I really cant get my mind around this 😶
@@bugswriter_ now i'm guessing that the problem now is that libxft-bgra, cuz iscol is not present in any of the source file since they're yours build. So can you suggest me a other way to install that libxft pkg or is there any alyternative for that?

hey man, thanks for the video, it was great. I just have one question though. How can I make dwm run on startup? It runs fine when I run startx, but after rebooting it boots into the console, so I have to run startx manually again. I tried putting "exec dwm" inside ~/.xinitrc and /etc/X11/xinit/.xinitrc but that didn't work, I still have to run startx manually. Thanks for the help :)
The big issue I have with the suckless utilities is their philosophy of being d*cks...they legit make configuring (or patching as they call it) hard (having to learn C) to have something nice to look at, and they're proud about it because, as they say, "it makes it more elitist and so people have less stupid question", like recompiling the freaking software every time is a better solution...

I tried to use plymouth. But it's not working properly with SSD. Getting the splash screen for a fraction of second.
When i try to run dwmblocks with lukesimths script emojis are not visible, is this because of the font ? if so, what font do i have to install
