Hi Natalie. I read an article that you can eat loofa gourds when young. Supposedly it's a healthy good for you food. I've never grown them. I was a bit envious when reading your commentor from Texas as we're heading into winter in 5B but our summers are so nice. Winter ice and snow has it's beauty too. We're all blessed no matter where we live in North America. God bless all gardeners ❤
Yes, I heard that about luffas, too, but I've never tried them. I have trouble enough keeping up with the zucchini! I always thought winters were our payment for enjoying spring...such a beautiful time of year. I, too, try to find the beauty in winter. Now that we have a wood fireplace, I enjoy curling up in front of it while snow swirls around outside the big window, feeling warm and toasty. :)
My garden season is over too! I wanted to clear the beds and get my garlic planted quickly, but a female hummingbird has been frequenting and hiding, playing in the plants all the time. I just don't want to touch or remove anything yet 😢❤
Hi I am in Quebec zone 4. its takes approx 200 days to reach maturity in weather over 15 celcius. We have approx 120 days so I guess no luffa for us.e. Would not even know where to purchase seeds to try starting indoors
It is tricky in the colder zones... but I don't know if I would rule them out completely. They can be started indoors--I do even here in 5B. The important thing is they do NOT like their roots being disturbed, so it is best to start them in a type of pot you can plant directly in the ground such as peat pots or self-made newspaper pots. You can warm up the soil where you are going to plant them with a cloche. The other thing is, even though they are hard to peel when still green, it is not impossible. You can still get a useful luffa! As for the seeds, I got mine at OSC (Ontario Seed Company) www.oscseeds.com/product/luffa-gourd-seeds-5345/ . I assume the ship across the country. Good luck if you decide to try them!
We have a geothermal heat pump that we put in three years ago. I doesn't use any fuel, just the heat from the earth. And even better, it is our air conditioner, too. Saved our butts with the price of oil as it went SKY HIGH here.
Great harvest tho 😊❤ Sad it's over but the Good LORD knows we need rest time and family time. ❤😊 GOD Bless you Sister and your family 😊❤
It is so true! The garden needs a rest, and so do I!!

It's lovely that you are so concerned about the hummingbird. I love them. We have them here in the summer, but they've gone now--too cold.

Oh LORD I can't hardly stand 30's temp. here in Texas. How do y'all warm your house. We have electric heaters in every room. Brrrr. 😢😊❤
