Fascinating chat
I'm an American; fascinated with British debate. I read an interesting account of the intrigue in Britain around the time of the American "revolution" which proposed it was an extension of the struggle between 'republicans' and 'monarchists' in Europe. At one moment in time, we "won" because the French fleet blockaded the British escape route from the 'militias and continental mercenaries' by sea. I'm of German, French and English stock. Any relations?
Interesting.. Yes I too find British politics very interesting in deed. And I have more or less followed it since the last few years with Thatcher (when I was around 12 believe it or not). The keen history enthusiast that I am (since the age of 6 or 7), I learned that the main cause for revolution/war of independence (basically a civil war) was; in fact your founding fathers were very proud to be Englishmen-only that they felt they weren´t seen as ones due to unequal treatment in Parliament-separate taxation in British America (for the huge costs of The French and Indian War/Seven Years' War protecting the colonists/colonies form being overrun) in comparison to the tax rate in the Mothercounty - that is why they revolted. I´m born and bread in Sweden -with some Norwegian ancestry and with a few drops of [Saxon]German blood (late 1600's).
