Jacob Hayes That's my bad...woke up at 5am, spent all day at jury duty, rushed home, changed clothes, met the guys at the studio to record this and a top ten, then edited and posted it and another video before getting back home around 1130pm. I was very tired...and frankly, I'm surprised that's the only thing that's wrong. Thanks for watching.
It's interesting to see how this groups tastes have changed through the years. I'm not sure a game like this would have gotten any praise from Tom or Sam a few years ago.
I see Zee's point (that's sort of where we find ourselves in this new golden age of board games now) but I agree with Sam that it's a surprisingly enjoyable and accessible Euro game with a fun and colourful theme that, despite it's simple roll and move mechanic, I found surprisingly engaging to play.
Wow, coming back to this in 2020 just proves how much the production quality has improved for the Dice Tower in recent years! This was pretty good, but compared to now? Well done DT!
Kind of a similar view to Zee. It's not a bad game , which when it comes to me and Feld is high praise indeed. But it's just another Euro point salad with a ton of randomness. I can't see Reinecks stamp on this game anywhere.
I'm watching this super late, but.. The entire time it was driving me nuts that Tom and then also Sam was saying "Traders" instead of what I assumed should be called "Raiders". Like why would "Traders" have swords and you're trying to stop them? Then I looked at the rulebook and it said "traitors".... OOooOooh
I think this actually looks like a fun entry level Euro. Kind of a gateway into that type of game. It's nothing I'm going to rush out and buy (mainly because I've bought WAY too many games this year), but if the amazon trend of occasionally dropping Queen games to ridiculously low prices holds, I'll pick it up at some point.
Oh man, the big reveal at 02:04. Ooh, Merlin, I wonder if we'll be off on mystical adventures! Then, BAM. Nope, no thematic adventures for you. Just a giant points salad whirlwind that I didn't like ten years ago and REALLY don't like now.
I am a big euro fan and i wish merlin was just another euro game. But its not. Its a really bad euro game. Its boring and doesnt work with al the randomness.
whereas before that (22:12) I couldn't tell if Zee and Tom were angry, bored, or sleepy :D I think I'm surprised that for as complicated as the game looks, at first glance, it didn't garner more enthusiasm. Seems an opportunity lost.
Totally agree with Zee. I played it with Sam and folks on DT Cruise and yet again I confirm that Stefan Feld is not for me... themeless point salad. And yes, I also have a problem of that 1-3 points with every move I make. I want to accomplish something bigger and then get a reward in points or whatever. I wanna build up and then get "applauds or boooo" from the game.
Honestly? I want it stated MORE often if a game feautres Zee's issue. I don't keep a huge wallfull of games, I keep a lean couple dozen that see routine play, and I sell/trade off (or hopefully avoid buying in the first place) anything that isn't going to see play as often. Collection is so streamlined at this point that this doesn't mean "bad" games, it means games that lack something that make them actively exceptional, and anything that is "another Eurogame" isn't cutting the mustard... I need a game that is it's genre perfected or does something new and exciting. I've considered mentioning this before as a suggestion, but since it was discussed so thoruoughly here: consider that for future reviews... maybe even as a category (like, I'll be honest, I don't really give a crap about aesthetics and piece quality and art style and such in proportion to like 1/5 of as much time as you guys spend discussing it... would MUCH prefer a "Uniqueness" category to share some of that time). Just does the game have something making it stand out as innovative or niche-perfecting? That'd be SUPER helpful to me to know with many reveiws...
Of the two game Queen Games offered in this kickstarter, I think I chose the more thematic one when I went for Pioneers, where the players drive around in a wagon train and try to unload settlers in various towns.
I doubt this is true. If you go to the meat-eating section of a city and open a vegan store, of course people are going to look at you funny. The Dice Tower has general dislike for point salady games, with exceptions. A Feld review, and the comments section is bound to sound the same way. Some of Feld's games are adored worldwide for a reason. Lately though, I guess there is one too many of the same type. And, this one here again has polarising reactions due it being familiar to games that already exist: not in mechanics, but in experience.
Sushmeit I am a fan of Feld games in general so I definitely have my bias as well, and I get it... not everyone is going to enjoy the same games. It is just odd that there was even such an awkwardness in the video when Tom said Zee was a fan of Feld games and he vehemently denied he was.
Joshua Anderson Zee is one moody cat, for sure. However, he has never specifically stated that he is a Feld fan. But he is a fan of some of his earlier works like Notre Dame and Dragon.
Zee's reaction to Sam saying it was family weight was great. :)
Lol. The Dead Man's Doubloons box is in the intro video.

Dont worry bout it buddy. You're doing great work!

I like how this group have a great dynamic on camera. Very natural, unlike a lot of heavily scripted/editing UA-cam.

Sam has gotten really good at describing games. I am w him 100% on this one.
Sam liking a Feld? It sure seems cold down here in hell...😄

Zee is very subdued today.
He almost fell asleep when Sam was speaking. Dude obviously needs more sleep
He’s been staying up watching... “special” movies... til’ late at night.
Any chance we get a review of Necromunda, Sam ?
I think the intro says da lions incorrectly
Do a review about fallou the board game please T-T

Turn down the brightness on the monitor significantly! Too bright for the camera which is adjusting to its light and making the people too dark.
Meh-lin
Search for "visual pollution board game" on google and you get this.
Yet another patchwork of okay mechanisms...
I think I would have liked the game more if the mission cards were not in the game. They felt very luck based.
"Just.Another.Euro. "
Pass.

boja70 shut up
Ozzy great argument. You certainly proved him wrong with facts and logic. I applaud you 👏 👏
Get some sleep, Zee :D
Point salad yummy yummy.
Im suprised they kind of liked it. The board look awful, components and grafic are from past century. This game sucks some huge merlin staff.
I actually expected them to like it, because Ryan Metzler did not, and they often have an opposite opinion to him. However, Zee did not this time.
Sam gets annoyed @21:29
Zee's eyes at 22:40 :) :)

My friends and I have the exact opposite about the module, I thought it added a lot more to it (I never went for the points ones)
Interesting to see the amount of hate everyone seems to have for Feld.

Michael Rieneck’s last name is pronounced Reeneck, not Reyeneck. German is a phonetic language, "ei" is always "eye" and "ie" is always "ee".
"if the dice don't go your way" and "get lucky and draw the right cards"....pass.
I watched a bunch of DT reviews today and Zee really seems grumpy in all of them (all Charterstone vids, this one)
He’s a moody guy. It’s all that late night “special” movie watching he does.
