Band Maid opening for Guns'n'Roses in Japan next month.
Band Maid brought me to your channel. Oh man please, don't keep stopping in the middle of a solo unless you are going to go back and replay the whole solo after your comment. It is the prime unspoken rule of reaction videos. 🙂Until it needs to be spoken 😁

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。 FYI, This song has been played in every show in their on-going US tour.😍 (including LA, your town). And they will play as opening act at Guns N' Roses concert in Japan on coming Nov.6. This MV was filmed at a famous and old stone quarry (Ishikiri-Sanmyaku) located in Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo. Kanami, the lead guitarist, was very scared when she stood near the brink of the cliff but she could defy the fear once cameras started to capture her playing scene. [source : Gekirock News]. Saiki is singing "Hunky Dory" repeatedly. It sounds to me, an aged Japanese, a kind of word play or pun. This phrase is very close to Japanese expression "Honki (本気) Dori (or Tori 撮り)" that means 「本気」= serious, earnest, sincere" and 「撮り」= filming, recording, image capturing". This is cynically suitable 😄 to what influencers do, isn't it? In the rap part Saiki is also singing "Always that one-upping contest, chit-chat chit-chat". "Chit-chat" sounds like "chicchai ちっちゃい" in Japanese. That means "tiny, trivial, frivolous, worthless etc." Miku's lyrics includes a lot of word play and Miku admitted she did it on purpose in an interview [source : Spice Oct.7] "Influencer" was played on Sep.7 at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo in Band-Maid's pre-US concert as the 13th song and that was the premiere (live debut). Just so you know, I witnessed it at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿.

@@flugelhornoldman1362 Ya, Cooking in black outfits, then again at the Aftershock festival were they looked like they were melting. The ladies are amazing.
Just to add to that, notice the pun during the bASS solo ... "focus on bUZZ". Miku's lyrics are generally very witty and fun to read/interpret, but "Influencer" is on another level.

Well bass solos are quite common in Band-Maid songs. Just saw this band and this song performed twice this week and the bass and guitar solos along with the vocals at the end by both singers were a highlight in two nights filled with highlights.

It was around 100-degrees F that day in Ibaraki...the girls earned their money.
This song is about social media addiction and narcissism.
Thrill was their first MV in 2014, but didn't get noticed until a radio station put it on UA-cam in 2015. This is one of their latest, so quite a contrast.
I believe it was actually a Facebook Japanese music fan page that did the post that went viral overseas
MISA. the barefoot bass assassin is a unique featured player and anything she plays is never out of left field. No egos in this band, ever. As stated in my Thrill comment: DOMINATION-LIVE, ONSET-LIVE (monster instrumental), PLAY-LIVE to keep you going. Peace. 911
Out of left field means the bass solo is vastly different from the rest of the track.
@@joelroadie haha. I understand. And it would surprise me too if I didn't know better. As you will hopefully find out a MISA solo can happen at any time. You can hear her LEAD bass throughout most songs. Early stuff not as much but they figured out that MISA is a major part of a song and not just accompaniment to Akane the drummer who doesn't just keep the beat going. And don't even start with Kanami the riff meister. More riffs in one song then some bands have in an album. They are a triumvirate of unequalled quality and quantity. Hyperbole? You be the judge. Location is a decommissioned granite quarry in the Ishikiri Mountains, Ibaraki from 1909 era that produced the "Inada" stone or "white lady" stone because of its white luster, strong and durable, like Band Maid, Po! Also, Japanese origin - "Honcho-dori" was the "Main Street" in Yokohama (same area Band Maid had their 2021 Christmas concert). Story say the American sailors, during the late 1800, were directed to follow this road back to the ship. Therefore, "easy street" to get back to the ship after liberty. Most likely pronounced by the sailors as "Hunky Dory." Btw, check out the lyrics, its on point about the influencing culture, Po! 🦍
The location of the video is not random: the song ironizes the social medias influencers, think Instagram and Tiktok, where everything is always filmed in front of a dreamy landscape. That's why they also abuse the filters here (here's english subs btw).
First of all, interesting that you first watched their oldest MV (one in wchich Miku, the "ryhthm" guitarist and second vocal, red rose in the headband, doesn't play a single note because, back then, she couldn't play, on a song that was written and composed for them) and their newest (one in which Miku, the *rhythm* guitarist and second vocal, still red rose inthe headband, is actually playing herself and is pretty great at it, and which they wrote and composed themselves ... like most songs after "Thrill" actually.). As to what she is saying .... {stares at the obviously turned off CC button on your screen} ... that COULD be helped, if you gave it a shot ;)
Awesome Bass Solos, Guitar Solos and the occasional Drum Solo (though that mostly happens in live settings) are the standard fare for Band-maid, though it should be noted that they rarely (never) overextend the solos to the point where they start to be annoying. they are, whilst not super technical, always on point. Which brings us to the fact that Band-Maid is a live band. To realize that watch the MV od Domination and then *any* live version of Domination (there is an awesome official live version on their channel, and, due to the fact that they are touring the US right now (/me cries in European) , there are some very good fan cam (look out for those by Vladimir Chupin). The MV sounds, as someone else said, anemic compared tot he live version.
Anywa... others will fill you in on the details, I'm certain of it :) Enjoy the ride ... oh, and btw : they are opening for G&R in Japan in a few weeks.
"who do they think they're playing for?" The first thing that popped into my mind [Rick and Morty Get Schwifty] was a giant Alien head hovering over the Earth, as Band-Maid plays to save us all, hee hee.
Nice. So, you jumped from the oldest to the newest MV. 9 years ago the band didn't write their own music and the second vocalist just held a guitar for appearances. But she practiced hard and she and the lead guitar player starting writing the lyrics and music. Now they are turning out a wide variety of rock songs with a lot of punk, pop, and metal influences. Also hip hop like heard in this song and even some jazz and R&B flavors. I'm sure everyone is telling you to check out some live recordings. Domination Official Live Video is a classic. Also, for a taste of their variety, react to Manners/Black Hole Official Live Video from a live streaming performance during COVID. And, by the way, they are opening for Guns and Roses in Japan.
Don't forget to turn on CC if available, a lot of songs have subs... Just saw them last Saturday and they kicked ass! Seriously tight!

@3:27 I'm not a musician like you however Band-Maid seems to have an algorithm where they have the first two choruses then MISA will do her bass solo then Kanami will do her guitar solo and sometimes MISA and Kanami are doing their solos at the same time.

😂 All they’re recent videos default to captions on. You have to turn them off to not have them. Once you see the captions, you start to hear all the English they actually use and you’ll be surprised how much it is.
They have two all English songs but they didn’t write the lyrics for either as they are older. They’ve written everything since about 2016/17 - everything other than The Dragon Cries

@3:40 it seems to me when Kanami begins her solo it sounds just like Bach's Toccata and Fugue. Somehow and maybe my ears are betraying me she makes that guitar sound like an organ!!

Ok, good reaction. Looking forward to more. I like that you paused the video to give your thoughts instead of trying to shout over the music. But . . . maybe don't pause in the middle of a solo. Especially not both solos. Bit of a reaction no-no. 😓
If you carry on with BAND-MAID, you'll notice there's basically two locations they use -- the middle of nowhere, like a volcanic beach, abandoned factory, rock quarry, or they use a studio that's either very darkly lit, or very brightly lit. There's a few exceptions, but those are the most common. Just something I noticed over the years.

I'll be one of the first band-maid fans to say I don't care for this song, even tho there are lots of killer licks and riffs, they added too much extra crap they could have left out. But that's just my opinion.
Bohemian Rhapsody had quite a lot extras as well. Actually, about 6 minutes' worth. Back then, I remember a lot of people didn't much care for it too.

@@kyles5513 That part is literally less than 20 seconds of the song. Speaking/singing fast is not rapping. She did the same for Blooming and that song is much faster than this one.
