From 1987 onward, the East German Government began to fully embrace Prussian tradition until the collapse of the GDR in 1990. It is no secret that the SED has always hesitated to fully embrace these military traditions because it did not want to appear as a neo-Monarchist state with a Socialist economy and ideology, which was nominally anti-Monarchist, Anti-Imperialist. It's ironic, us Russians had no issues with Germans celebrating their identity. It was actually the Soviet Union that put pressure on the SED to make the then newly founded Volksarmee appear "German" and respect its Prussian military traditions, which the SED reluctantly approved. It still wanted to distance itself from the past by adopting some soviet elements into the army, such as the Russian style medals and usage of Russian weapons rather than German ones. Non the less, under Honecker, a gradual process of embracing Prussian traditions started in 1980, when the Statute of Frederick the Great (King of Prussia) was restored in Berlin under his orders. Honecker's predecessor, Walter Ulbricht despised everything about Prussia and made no secret about it. He was responsible for the demolition of the Stadtschloss, and on a personal level, SED members said he hated the residence of the Hohenzollern dynasty (Stadtschloss) as a symbol of the "old Germany" (Prussia). Despite his personal hatred for Prussia, the Soviets were responsible for Prussian traditions being kept alive in the NVA, and not from the ruling SED. This is evident by the fact that under Ulbricht, two medals commemorating Prussian generals were created. One was dedicated to Prussian Generalfeldmarschall Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, and the other after Prussian General Gerhard von Scharnhorst.
The GDR was in fact not a socialist state, but a red-colored fascist state, despite claiming to be truly antifascist. A nightmare, which fortunately ended in 1989, only to be resurrected by Merkel and her cronies in 2005.

На уроках истории нас учили говорить немецко-фашистские войска. "Немецкие войска" говорить было нельзя. То есть СССР воевал с фашистами, а не немцами. Сейчас все по другому....

Ein wunderschönes Militär Konzert mit über 700 Musikern. Mit Sicherheit eines der größten wenn nicht sogar das größte Militär Konzert nach dem Ende des zweiten Weltkriegs auf deutschen Boden. Vielleicht gibt es ja noch einmal so ein großes Konzert. Ich würde es mir wünschen! Vielen lieben Dank fürs einstellen!

Nur wer in der DDR linientreu war, durfte Abitur machen etc. und was für ein armseliges Regime, das seine Bürger nicht einmal nach Schweden, Irland oder Spanien in Urlaub fahren lies. Für mich war das Konzert ein musikalisches Ereignis. Die DDR selbst war dem Untergang geweiht und sie ist es ja gottseidank auch. Das bessere Leben begann für meine Familie und mich nach 1989.
Großartiges Militärmusik Spektakel, ganz große Show, die es so nie wieder geben wird, weil die neuen Herren aus dem Westen es nicht wünschen. Danke, Danke für's einstellen, dieses historisch wertvollen Videos.
Eine sehr gelungene wie würdige Veranstaltung zum Stadtjubiläum auf dem Gendarmenmarkt. Hervorragend waren sowohl die musikalischen Beiträge mit preußischen Armeemärschen als auch deren Spiel in historischen Uniformen. Beeindruckend auch der Massenchor dreier Musikkorps auf den Stufen des Schauspielhauses. Leider fehlte die Wilhelminische Zeit, was aber damals eher aus ideologischen Gründen geschah, indem man stattdessen einen historischen Weitsprung von den Befreiungskriegen hin zur frühen Nachkriegszeit des I. Weltkriegs mit den Uniformen der meuternden Matrosen und dem Rotfrontkämpferbund zurücklegte. Insgesamt aber hielt man sich ideologisch zurück. Als "Westdeutscher" habe ich dieses Ereignis zum ersten Mal gesehen und bekunde selbst nach 35 Jahren den Veranstaltern meinen Glückwunsch für die gelungene Veranstaltung!
Was mich erstaunt ist, dass es gerade in der ehem. DDR, die sich doch so bewusst vor dem (angeblichen) schlimmen "preußischen Militarismus" gehütet hat, solch wundervoll erhaltenen Traditionen gab. So eine Veranstaltung würde heute als "völkisch-nationalistisch" diffamiert werden und könnte auf gar keinen Fall in dieser Form stattifinden.

Solch eine Musikdarbietung sollte auch das Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr mit allen Heeresmusikkorps darbieten. Ich bin auch dafür, daß wieder der Wachwechsel an Schinkels Neuer Wache erfolgt. Einmal in der Woche mit großem Musikzug.

...ist jetzt nicht wirklich so eine grosse Leistung - kann bis zum heutigen Tag noch ca 50 Militärmärsche, den grossen Zapfenstreich und etwa 20 bis 30 Konzertstücke auswendig... ...meine Dienstzeit beim HMK I Hannover war übrigens 1984 bis 86 - davon abgesehen kenne ich unter Musikern Kollegen, welche die Partituren von ganzen Opern im Kopf haben...
Wo du es sagst und ich mir das ne halbe Stunde ansehe: krass, aber wahr. Die müssen schon Jahre Praxis damit haben. Also gab es schon vorher eine öffentlich unbemerkte "Preussentradition" bei der NVA.
@@agorazontas5894 Eine butterweiche Gesellschaft ist mir auch lieber. Die braucht nichtmal direkt in einen Krieg verwickelt zu sein, um komplett vor die Hunde zu gehen. Kann es kaum erwarten, dass irgendein Autokrat uns mal angreift und Aktivisten sich mutig auf die Straßen kleben, um den Invasoren zu zeigen, wie doof sie Kriege finden. Leider hat Deutschland diese Tradition nicht mehr. Sie ging unter am 3. Oktober 1990. An diesem Tag gab es die letzte Deutsche Armee nicht mehr. Heute gibt es nur noch eine Kaspertruppe die am liebsten wieder Krieg mit Russland hätte. Dieser Krieg ist auch der Willen der derzeitigen deutschen 🚥 Regierung, der EU-Kommission und der NATO. Damit Europa ins Mittelalter gebombt wird. Den Aufbau bezahlt dann der letzte Rest von überlebenden an die USA.

Gosh - so many things that I could add here. I was born in Germany, the son of a WW II Panzer Officer in the Wehrmacht. The only thing that I liked about the East Germans on parade was their "Parademarsch," or some would also call it the "Stechschritt" (or to those in the west, more familiarly the "goose step." I didn't care for the East German arm swing - too Soviet/Russian-like (i.e. the exaggerated swing with the clenced fish coming up to chest level." On the other hand, if you want to see the full Prussian manual of arms - complete with the ole' K98 Mauser, and with the traditional German high leather boots with cleats (but with trousers tucked over the boot - not inside), look at the Bundeswehr's Wachbataillon (or Honor Guard Battalion in Berlin used for diplomatic or ceremonial events). They do it all - but without the Parade Marsch which is forbidden in the Bundeswehr (which is a shame). As a retired US Marine myself, I have kept up with how the modern German army has progressed over the past 50 years or so. Other than the Honor battalion out of Berlin (Wachbataillon), the rest of the German army have terrible marching habits. Now, mind you, they do look good standing still, but the moment you give them a "forward march," all is lost with typically half or more of the units out of step, with most of the men and women looking down at the person's feet in front of them.

" No it's not and it's also not because it's harder to train (goose step makes many movements in formation much simpler). " the rest of the German army have terrible marching habits. " Most of the time the command is "without step", which literally means no stepping at all. Furthermore, it was intended by the generals that founded the ideological fundament of the Bundeswehr wrote down that drill is the last thing that needs to be trained because war could break out any minute, that simply stuck.

By the way, I used to correspond (occasionally) with Oberstabsfeldwebel Christian Richter, the Tambourmajor of the Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr Spielmannszugg. (now retired - pensioner) He was a holdover from the DDR and in my opinion, he was the best Tambourmajor in the Bundeswehr. I used to ask him about the Parademarsch. He was given permission to show case it in a few performances - but like you said, the Parademarsch takes practice to get it right. I saw the performance in the link that you sent me and I loved it really. And he only did it twice with his Spielmannszug.

Ich finde so eine Hampelmannparade einfach nur albern. Ist aber nur meine ganz persönliche Meinung. Sorry, with all due respect to military traditions. My opinion: a parade march with goose step, swinging your arm, turning your gaze, etc. No modern army in the world needs it. I find such a jumping jack parade just silly. But that's just my very personal opinion.

I'm an enthusiast of history and I have always looked from here in the south of the world to Germany as a great country with a very rich and amazing history, and I fell like Germans today can't be proud of their traditions, specifically Prussians, because of the little mustache guy, it's like you were forced to delete everything from your past to be included by the rest of the Occidental countries, I think is not fair. Anyway, I love your history, I think you should be really proud of what your people have achieved, it's really impressing and I hope I can visit Germany some day. For my luck, here in Chile we have Prussians traditions in our army, since 1885, thanks to Emilio Körner, and they are still live today in our military parades. Ironically, Chilean army parades are more Prussians than Germany's itself, with the goose steps and even some units with pickelhaube. Wenn die schon alle beim Zapfenstreich ausflippen und dann noch die Polizei ne Parade in einem NS Bau hält, ich glaub dann ist Polen offen. Und das Historien Konzert der Bundeswehr ist interessanter Weise genau so komisch wie das der NVA. "rifle drill" on miltei identtinen kuin Preussilla/keisarikunnalla. Onhan myös rautaristi vieläkin käytössä ja univormussa on vielä monia perinteisiä elementtejä kuten kauluslaatat ja arvomerkit melkein samanlaisia kuin Preussilla. Harmi kuitenkin, ettei Wachbataillon'in kivääreissä käytetä pistimiä, upseereilla ei ole miekkaa ja yleensä (Großer Zapfenstreich'tiä lukuunottamatta) ei käytetä kypärää vaan barettia. Olisihan myös perinteinen preußischer exerzierschritt / paradeschritt hieno nähdä. Ylipäätään olisi hienoa, jos Saksa alkaisi järjestää oikeita sotilasparaateja jälleen.

Weil im Geschichtsunterricht der DDR ganz einfach nur gesagt wurde das die Nazis jetzt alle im westen sind. Wo sind sie jetzt? In dem deutschen Gebiet in dem sich mal die DDR befunden hat. Zum Glück ist dieser Miststaat untergegangen. Nichts desto trotz ist diese Aufführung gut gelungen und besitzt sogar eine gute Tonqualität. Das liegt aber an der doofen Westtechnik, die für Anlässe für diese extra eingeflogen wurden, weil der Ostschrott nicht mehr zeitgemäß war.

Шикарно!!! Я дважды был в ГДР, в 1984 и 1988 гг. Очень много впечатлений. Да , в СССР никогда не относились к ГДР, как к побежденной стране. На уроках истории нас учили говорить немецко-фашистские войска. "Немецкие войска" говорить было нельзя. То есть СССР воевал с фашистами, а не немцами. Сейчас все по другому....

Ein wunderschönes Militär Konzert mit über 700 Musikern. Mit Sicherheit eines der größten wenn nicht sogar das größte Militär Konzert nach dem Ende des zweiten Weltkriegs auf deutschen Boden. Vielleicht gibt es ja noch einmal so ein großes Konzert. Ich würde es mir wünschen! Vielen lieben Dank fürs einstellen!

Nur wer in der DDR linientreu war, durfte Abitur machen etc. und was für ein armseliges Regime, das seine Bürger nicht einmal nach Schweden, Irland oder Spanien in Urlaub fahren lies. Für mich war das Konzert ein musikalisches Ereignis. Die DDR selbst war dem Untergang geweiht und sie ist es ja gottseidank auch. Das bessere Leben begann für meine Familie und mich nach 1989.

Da wäre ich gerne dabei gewesen, leider war damals die innerdeutsche Grenze noch komplett dicht.
Egal wie und wo die Deutsche sind große Musikern!!!!
Eine sehr gelungene wie würdige Veranstaltung zum Stadtjubiläum auf dem Gendarmenmarkt. Hervorragend waren sowohl die musikalischen Beiträge mit preußischen Armeemärschen als auch deren Spiel in historischen Uniformen. Beeindruckend auch der Massenchor dreier Musikkorps auf den Stufen des Schauspielhauses. Leider fehlte die Wilhelminische Zeit, was aber damals eher aus ideologischen Gründen geschah, indem man stattdessen einen historischen Weitsprung von den Befreiungskriegen hin zur frühen Nachkriegszeit des I. Weltkriegs mit den Uniformen der meuternden Matrosen und dem Rotfrontkämpferbund zurücklegte. Insgesamt aber hielt man sich ideologisch zurück. Als "Westdeutscher" habe ich dieses Ereignis zum ersten Mal gesehen und bekunde selbst nach 35 Jahren den Veranstaltern meinen Glückwunsch für die gelungene Veranstaltung!
Was mich erstaunt ist, dass es gerade in der ehem. DDR, die sich doch so bewusst vor dem (angeblichen) schlimmen "preußischen Militarismus" gehütet hat, solch wundervoll erhaltenen Traditionen gab. So eine Veranstaltung würde heute als "völkisch-nationalistisch" diffamiert werden und könnte auf gar keinen Fall in dieser Form stattifinden.

Leider hat Deutschland diese Tradition nicht mehr. Sie ging unter am 3. Oktober 1990. An diesem Tag gab es die letzte Deutsche Armee nicht mehr. Heute gibt es nur noch eine Kaspertruppe die am liebsten wieder Krieg mit Russland hätte. Dieser Krieg ist auch der Willen der derzeitigen deutschen 🚥 Regierung, der EU-Kommission und der NATO. Damit Europa ins Mittelalter gebombt wird. Den Aufbau bezahlt dann der letzte Rest von überlebenden an die USA.

Gosh - so many things that I could add here. I was born in Germany, the son of a WW II Panzer Officer in the Wehrmacht. The only thing that I liked about the East Germans on parade was their "Parademarsch," or some would also call it the "Stechschritt" (or to those in the west, more familiarly the "goose step." I didn't care for the East German arm swing - too Soviet/Russian-like (i.e. the exaggerated swing with the clenced fish coming up to chest level." On the other hand, if you want to see the full Prussian manual of arms - complete with the ole' K98 Mauser, and with the traditional German high leather boots with cleats (but with trousers tucked over the boot - not inside), look at the Bundeswehr's Wachbataillon (or Honor Guard Battalion in Berlin used for diplomatic or ceremonial events). They do it all - but without the Parade Marsch which is forbidden in the Bundeswehr (which is a shame).
As a retired US Marine myself, I have kept up with how the modern German army has progressed over the past 50 years or so. Other than the Honor battalion out of Berlin (Wachbataillon), the rest of the German army have terrible marching habits. Now, mind you, they do look good standing still, but the moment you give them a "forward march," all is lost with typically half or more of the units out of step, with most of the men and women looking down at the person's feet in front of them.

No it's not and it's also not because it's harder to train (goose step makes many movements in formation much simpler). The reason why it's not used except special occasions (see: ua-cam.com/video/X1BD1DwZEIU/v-deo.html ) is because the Wachbataillion is formally a Jäger/light infantry unit, which didn't use the Paradeschritt.

Most of the time the command is "without step", which literally means no stepping at all. Furthermore, it was intended by the generals that founded the ideological fundament of the Bundeswehr wrote down that drill is the last thing that needs to be trained because war could break out any minute, that simply stuck.

By the way, I used to correspond (occasionally) with Oberstabsfeldwebel Christian Richter, the Tambourmajor of the Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr Spielmannszugg. (now retired - pensioner) He was a holdover from the DDR and in my opinion, he was the best Tambourmajor in the Bundeswehr.
I used to ask him about the Parademarsch. He was given permission to show case it in a few performances - but like you said, the Parademarsch takes practice to get it right. I saw the performance in the link that you sent me and I loved it really. And he only did it twice with his Spielmannszug.
Sorry, bei aller Ehre für militärische Traditionen. Meine Meinung: einen Parademarsch mit Stechschritt, Armschwung Blickwendungen etc. Braucht keine moderne Armee der Welt. Ich finde so eine Hampelmannparade einfach nur albern. Ist aber nur meine ganz persönliche Meinung.

I'm an enthusiast of history and I have always looked from here in the south of the world to Germany as a great country with a very rich and amazing history, and I fell like Germans today can't be proud of their traditions, specifically Prussians, because of the little mustache guy, it's like you were forced to delete everything from your past to be included by the rest of the Occidental countries, I think is not fair.
Anyway, I love your history, I think you should be really proud of what your people have achieved, it's really impressing and I hope I can visit Germany some day.
For my luck, here in Chile we have Prussians traditions in our army, since 1885, thanks to Emilio Körner, and they are still live today in our military parades. Ironically, Chilean army parades are more Prussians than Germany's itself, with the goose steps and even some units with pickelhaube.

Hat die NVA relativ gut gemacht. 👍 die Uniformen von den historischen Gruppen…. Na ja, ok man kann es erkennen. Aber trotzdem klasse Konzert würde ich gerne mal von der Bundeswehr sehen. Wird vermutlich nie geschehen, aber man kann ja wenigstens träumen.

@@scanida5070 interessante Filme. das mit der Berliner Polizei,na ja… Ich als Berliner kann sicherlich behaupten das dass nicht nochmals geben wird. Besonders nicht im Olympia Stadion. Wenn die schon alle beim Zapfenstreich ausflippen und dann noch die Polizei ne Parade in einem NS Bau hält, ich glaub dann ist Polen offen.
Und das Historien Konzert der Bundeswehr ist interessanter Weise genau so komisch wie das der NVA. Ich hab auch nichts anderes erwartet aber trotzdem finde ich es schade das so gut wie niemand, auf die Idee kam mal kurz in die passenden Reglementer rein zu schauen. Da hielt eine ne Muskete so wie ich es in keiner mir bekannten exazierschritte kenne. Ich kenne mehr oder weniger 3 Preußische exazierreglemente einen um 1750, 1790 und noch das dass während den Befreiungskriegen galt.
Ich hoffe das die Bundeswehr so ein Konzert wieder veranstaltet aber bitte nicht so. Wäre ziemlich peinlich…

"rifle drill" on miltei identtinen kuin Preussilla/keisarikunnalla. Onhan myös rautaristi vieläkin käytössä ja univormussa on vielä monia perinteisiä elementtejä kuten kauluslaatat ja arvomerkit melkein samanlaisia kuin Preussilla. Harmi kuitenkin, ettei Wachbataillon'in kivääreissä käytetä pistimiä, upseereilla ei ole miekkaa ja yleensä (Großer Zapfenstreich'tiä lukuunottamatta) ei käytetä kypärää vaan barettia. Olisihan myös perinteinen preußischer exerzierschritt / paradeschritt hieno nähdä. Ylipäätään olisi hienoa, jos Saksa alkaisi järjestää oikeita sotilasparaateja jälleen.

Das schöne war, wir durften in der DDR ganz einfach Deutsche sein! Hier muss ich mich immer für meinen deutschen Großvater entschuldigen.
Weil im Geschichtsunterricht der DDR ganz einfach nur gesagt wurde das die Nazis jetzt alle im westen sind. Wo sind sie jetzt? In dem deutschen Gebiet in dem sich mal die DDR befunden hat. Zum Glück ist dieser Miststaat untergegangen. Nichts desto trotz ist diese Aufführung gut gelungen und besitzt sogar eine gute Tonqualität. Das liegt aber an der doofen Westtechnik, die für Anlässe für diese extra eingeflogen wurden, weil der Ostschrott nicht mehr zeitgemäß war.
Rückständiges Gedankengut übrigens. Bravo!

having been on both sides of the wall often i definately see why the east germans choose the west. and do see why a tourist eye view might see this and be "pro gdr" but walk 100 yards off alexander plats that same night and you would as i did and you would see a very different gdr .......
