Awesome content, Kevin, as always. Heard your name on an ultra running podcast the other day about some work going on or coming up - was somewhat surprised/totally not surprised to hear that, and excited!
@@KevinEassa I'll go back and try to figure it out - it was an interview with one of the top Western States finishers - may have been Joe Corcione's Everyday Ultra interview with Rod Farvard?
@@Gator35 that’s so cool haha. I will have to try and find out so I can watch it. If you find out the episode please comment on here in case I can’t find it!
@@KevinEassa No luck - I listen to so many, but it was one of the bigger shows like Dylan Bowman or Joe Corcione - seemed pretty significant to me and the interviewee who was a bigtime pro ultra runner mentioned something coming up that you were involved in.
Hello from Ouray, Colorado!! Thank you very much for this informative video!! We used to own a 40 acre patch in the Wet Mountains. What a great area that doesnt make everybody's list. Once we got settled in Ouray, we sold it :-( But, I am planning to take my travel trailer back to the Valley for some boondock camping and re-exploration.
@@KevinEassa... that's fine.. I was wearing mine on less rocky trails (switching with Merrell's Moabs) in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah road trip in June.
Thanks! I personally always wear trail runners when hiking, mainly Hoka or a recent pair of Salomon. But all of these hikes can be done on your own without the need for a guide!
Thank you, so glad to hear that! Tough to say, we don't own a vehicle with high clearance/4wd so as far as inches I couldn't say. The white jeep we drove in the video is a stock Jeep and it was just fine, I'm not sure if that's 8 inches or more. Humboldt was the worst road, followed by Music Pass. 8 inches could definitely make every single other trail on the list, just not 110% sure about those two
Say I just canceled my 4 nights at Jasper National Park because of the wild fires. I am planning on going to Telluride and Ouray. Would you stay 2 nights at Telluride and 2 nights at Ouray. Or would you send 3 nights at Telluride and one night at Ouray.
So sorry to hear that, it’s so sad about the fires. I would do 2 and 2 probably, mainly because they’re both just so awesome. I know Ouray a lot better than I know telluride, there’s a million hikes and activities in both. With Ouray you also get to drive the Million Dollar Highway
@@williambrown3208 ice lake and island lake are on the million dollar highway, as is Columbine lake and red mountain. I have top 10s on both Ouray and the Million Dollar Highway! Sadly no video on telluride yet other than our via ferrata vlog
@@romineckok.9724 my first time hiking in this area, so I personally couldn’t say. It sounds like July is the worst, but probably a good idea to have it packed during any summer months
@@romineckok.9724 June you are likely to encounter snow unless late June. August is better than July (especially late August) and very unlikely to see any mosquitos in September.

Awesome Kevin.! Such an epic area and had a blast exploring together. Thanks for having me out guys 🙏🏽
Jealous how much closer you are in Buena Vista! Thanks for coming out man, such a fun few days together
Fantastic production! Thanks Kevin & Bri!
Thank you so much Deb!!!

I can’t wait to get back!!!! Such an amazing area
Such a fun week!
Shhh, we who live in this valley don't want everyone to know about it! ;) It's beautiful!

at 5:41...what Hoka shoes are those? Bondi 8?
They are the Bondi 8! I think technically a road shoe but they perform just fine on the trails

I love your channel! So much great information! Question though... how much clearance do you need on your vehicle for these roads? Is 8" enough?

When did you do the South Colony Lakes trail? I know you said bugs were bad, but assuming you went in July (which is the worst time for bugs).
We did it July 12! Just a few weeks ago, they were the worst at the upper lake
how about June or September...thanx?

HORSES HAVE DIED DOING PHANTOM TERRACE!!! Use caution if you attempt it on horseback!
Personally I would only recommend it for those on foot, that’s so sad
I only know of ONE horse that unfortunately died on this trail. Agree it is best on foot without a horse or dogs.
