I first became interested in the mid 70’s while working in a (plant) nursery in NW Florida. The owners were into being debt free and having food stored. Introduced to Mother Earth News but the only other people who shared these beliefs were Mormons who I could not wrap my head around their beliefs. Pleased that I can now prepare better for my special needs son, myself and certain family and friends

I used to stock only for winter till 2020 when I felt like it should be more than winter. I mentioned to a friend who told me to trust God. I went with her words but not long after I still felt God was telling me to keep stocking so I did. But I let it slide a little. Taking things out and not replacing them. I really need to restock again. Our container garden keeps growing more each year.

What people don't realize is that prepping is an investment that earns interest. It's worth more as time goes by. Buy a dozen bottles of mouth wash, and by the time you run out. It costs twice what you paid for it. Money saved.

Cheap food for many years makes us dependent on the system. My parents went thru the depression. They canned, gardened, saved about everything. The thing they were not good at passing on was "the why". I would whine while processing green beans for canning and say this is a lot of work when we could buy a can at the store. So now, after they passed away, you start to get it.

Prepping.....an investment/insurance for you and your family. I am so glad I had a 'store' in my house. I was off my job for back surgery, and wasn't able to return, and I still cant work. Our 'store' save us. Food, medical, laundry soap, body soaps, you name it, I had it put back. What a blessing it was. Love your channel. Pray, prep, and be kind. GOD bless

I never considered it prepping for the future. It’s just what I do. I come from German farmers. My Grandmother gardened and canned everything. My mom and dad always had a garden and even though my mom worked outside the home she froze a lot of the garden. When I became a wife and mother I gardened and preserved the harvest also.

Growing up on the King James version of the Bible, we learned warly on the verse from Proverbs 6:6 "Go to the ant, thou sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise. 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Insurance is never assurance. Think twice before trusting that they will replace anything. They want the money and they will talk themselves out of their bargains in the deal before they flat out replace or reimburse. You better have a good argument and good and arguing on top of being money bags.

@@tinashaver2373 We have two closets, both full of regular things. We have no couch and if we put things, like buckets, under the only bed we have my wife would need a ladder to get in and out of bed. She's only 5 feet tall and 72 years old. But we do have about 18 cases of various canned goods in a small spare bedroom and frozen goods in the freezer. Not a years worth of stuff but some.

Insurance contracts allow me - a widow with low savings - to pool my auto, home, or other property with other insureds to help me pay for losses named in the contracts above the levels I can pay myself (deductibles). If you can recover from a wreck, storm, whatever without the help, you save loads of money not buying it or with very very high deductibles or limits to the coverages (just liability for example).
It's NOT a free ticket to get a new free roof every 10 years etc.

This video is right on target. We are stocked but now we are beginning to replace some of the things we stocked about 4 years ago. I pray daily that God will show us what items we need to stock up on.
Kennebec potatoes go in the ground tomorrow. We have some red potato volunteers that are from last year that are already a few inches high. Yep we are leaving them there.
We may be able to eat meat only once a week and that will be in soup but we won't starve.
We gather items we think we might be able to trade for milk and eggs. Rope. Clothes pins, matches. Bandaid, batteries, diapers. Etc
God leads us. Thank you so much for reminding us how God led Joseph.

@Youhaverights6 I've worked as an employee in years past. In the rush of life, too many folks don't know what insurance is or why they have it. I've seen it be life changing - it can restore families after tragedy or can leave a gaping hole in lives and finances when it's not in place.
But I pay retail premiums like everybody else and as widow that's a struggle (after my hubs' sudden death my rates went up because I'm now a "single" unmarried driver and had to move to a smaller much older house). I feel the pain the group feels but just not the anger

    • @Youhaverights6

@@countrysister700 anger huh? Being a little too smart and seen to many things is anger? Sorry for your loss and or losses. Loss is hurting everyone right now. The 40s 50s and 60s babies are passing on right now and I am one of their babies and it is terrible.

What is interesting is if people think back - 2008, mid 1980s, mid 1970s then people would prepare for the inevitable. All of those time frames had significant drops in the economy that caused people to loose housing, cars, and have difficulty feeding their families - but people don't want to remember pain (physical or emotional)

You're correct. I have a cheap bachelor friend that years ago started buying modest houses for cash when he found good deals - even his own house. So he only carries liability coverage on his houses and vehicles (to cover falls, accidents for tenants, etc). He stacks savings and replaces roofs as needed. He's lucked out and never had a fire or major loss.
