  • Landmannalaugar in Iceland is a beautiful landscape photography location and in this video I try my hand at reviewing it. I offer information about the area, what I enjoyed and what I did not enjoy. I talk about what there is to photograph and some of the hiking that is available in Landmannalaugar.

I think it is a good addition to your channel as it allows for the logistical approach of your trips to compliment the artistic aspect of your content. I know Mads Peter Iverson has commented on your channel before and its one aspect that compliments his channel extremely well when he discusses the trip and not just the photography.
Your images in this vlog were great to see again and your discussion also is a good reminder that it often involves hard work to get to the point of sharing these images

scotty4418 this is so good! Now I can focus on the vlogging and photography part when I finally get to Landmannalaugar and just link to this video for any practical questions 😁

I usually don't write comments. Probably this is my first or second one but since you asked for it, here is mine: thank you dear Thomas. It is a great deep review about this location from photography perspective and personal experience. Now we know what to expect. I wish there was more videos like this out there. I really appreciate it and please keep doing that. Even if I never get a chance to go there, it will definitely help someone someday.

The specifics around your treks make it more personal, and for those of us that aspire to get to these locations, its exactly what we're looking for. I'll be in Iceland during this years midnight sun (same week as you), and this video may shift our priorities/path. Thank you for all your work, Thomas.

Hey Thomas, you are our photography prophet. Here is a short thank you. Anyway. That Video is great. A week ago my mother asked me if we want to go to iceland and my answer was hell yeah. But than i changed my mind and i have seen infront of my inner eye all these people who stand at the top spots. I know that landscape photography is not beeing on hot spots but it hard to find other beautiful location because all of the other people i follow who are making videos are just on these "hot spots". Thank you for sharing and i am sorry for my broken english 😅

Hi Thomas. I’ve been following you for a month or so and am constantly educated and entertained by your videos. This one is no exception. I was in Iceland 3 years ago but other than a couple of tours stayed in Reykjavik. You’ve made me want to return and get out onto the land. Just getting back into photography after many years away and you’ve helped me with the steep learning curve to get into the digital age. Look forward to whatever you have planned next, but I encourage you to do more of these.

I like this sort of video. Keep up this format. Landmannalaugar is as breathtaking as you described it. I hiked this peaks several times and every view is different to the others. Perfect for photographers. But so many people do not respect the unique nature there. They hike off the paths, regardless of the fragile plants they trample down. They leave rubbish. Just to get the best view or the best selfies. That's why the icelandic government recently closed several beautiful areas, like the famous Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. This is incomprehensible. Please help to protect this amazing nature with all it's uniqueness.

Hi Thomas, I think this worked very well. Great idea. I would suggest to have some blog entries attach to this kind of videos. Thanks again for your always outstanding job. 😊👍👏

I like all your videos since the very beginning, not only because of the beautiful images that you take, but also because of the less beautiful ones that you show too much efforts to shoot! And about this video, I really enjoyed it so much until you said that you didn’t care how the people will photograph their shots! We care about your videos and we are always there when you upload any of them and we care so much which means that you also should care! And even if a lot of people who watch the video didn’t even noticed it, I am sure that the ones who noticed it, didn’t feel right about it!

To be honest, I did not feel the need for locations to get photograps from.
Where others by the thousends already have been, and made so many pictures from...you know what I mean, Thomas?
And afterall, the beauty is everywhere, if I am in line whith it to see it, no mater where I am.
But after some minutes though, I saw the good use of it, gearwise and practicality-wise that is.
It also makes good use of youre b-roll qualities, whitch you obvious have.
There will be a time with youre own program, it seems to be unavoidable, quality speaks for itself.
So yes, lets enjoy this offer from you, and see where it brings us.
    Thanks for the good work,Thomas!

Great video. I'm from Iceland and I've travelled a lot in the Icelandic highland, I know what it's like and I have to say this video is very good and accurate. Nothing that needs to be corrected, and nothing left out.
One tip: Camp on the gravel rather than the grass. The gravel is actually foamy pumice, it's dry and very good insulation, much warmer than the wet grass.
There is the third peak there called Brennisteinsalda (Sulfurwave), it's straight above the lava field. It's an easy hike as well, and you get a great view from there too.
Looking forward to more videos like this... Thanks :)

Thomas, your work is truly breathtaking. The photography of course, but the video storytelling also captures the time and place like we're there with you. Bravo!
This new departure is more like Travel Show Biz. Can't have the immediacy or bite of on location stuff. Fireside chit-chat Bwana and no fire from the iMac. Still good. Need white woman, bad ankle, high steep gorge or more maps (animated) with show and tell treasures ripped from the hostile landscape, a curious petrified bone, a stinking scrap of IKEA catalogue with a nailhole.
But whatever you do, it works. You're enjoying yourself.

I really enjoyed the "pilot episode" of this new series: I think it's a good opportunity to see and re-examine the locations you usually show with videoclips and pictures, this time giving your actual impressions on them and the places nearby. It would be a perfect complement to the """raw photography""" videos you usually make. Go on, you're always a big inspiration! :)

Thomas! You make me want to pack my bags and go NOW! I loved that you covered ALL of the aspects of this location, especially "be prepared" for some poor facilities. I agree, the camp site sounds dreadful but as you said if you are there as a photographer that is a minor issue. Keep the location reviews coming. Photographers need a different perspective from a review. Great advice as always, looking forward to the next one. Can't wait to get there!

  • @Rosetheromani

Good Idea for a series. Even though I might not get to visit these locations. Just hearing your views on what makes a good location, what you might need to make the visit pleasurable, these can all help, in working out what might be good locations in the areas that one can visit. Maybe even people suggesting locations in their area might be helpful. Yesterday I went to a waterfall, Olinda Falls, which is basically in the suburbs of Melbourne. I go there early and got some good photos - not another person around, yet by the time I got back to the car park - it was filling up and the location was starting to get packed. So the tip about sleeping in the day and shooting after all the tourists had gone, is a tip I think we can all learn from.

Long time watcher, rare poster. I like this format. Let's see where it goes. I am someone who likes to travel and likes to take photos. A video like this saves a lot of time for researching a new area or new location, and may very well help me to chose a location vs one that has less readily available information. I personally do not have a lot of time for trips every year, and a video like this will save me about a day of scouting per trip.

I like it and since I was there last June it was easy to return in memories and review our trip. I think you did great job describing the place/area. I would add that it is possible to take a bus from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar, stay there for some time or even take a Laugavegur trek, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful treks in the world, and you can catch bus back from Landmannalaugar or Skogar. We were there for 2 nights and we were unlucky about weather. While it was quite nice during daytime, we haven't had a single decent sunset or sunrise. A reason to go there again, I guess.

Great idea for the new series. Do more! The images of your trips allow us hobbyists to dream, and maybe, if one is lucky enough, plan an epic trip for the future. Thanks for sharing your insights! Never a fan of smelly toilets, but for that scenery I'd put up with them!

I’ve been watching your videos for a long time Thomas, since 9-10k maybe and I think yours is the best channel on youtube by a mile. I loved this video. Lots of info but kept it nice and simple. I’ve just returned from Iceland but this has definetly given me inspiration to go back in the summer to explore the highlands. Thanks for all your hard work and content. Sam

I really liked this video. The combination of explaining the logistics of getting there/camping along with where to go for photo ops and some suggestions on what & how to shoot made this really comprehensive and useful. Thanks so much!

def keep doing these. This helps get an idea of what to expect and where to expect it. Also Seasonal advice goes a long way in helping too. I live in Arizona and you cant just go anywhere any old time you want. You gotta know the best times or what to expect in each season. So any and all information you have on that is VERY appreciated.

Looks an amazing place to stay and that campsite reminds me of the Red Squirrel in Glencoe... Maybe one day I will get the chance to visit.

This is a great idea, a welcome addition to your Vlogging. I especially like your preference of taking a caravan so as to advoid the hard/mushy grounds, main day light, day trippers and the breeze from the dunny...
