Thank you for your support!❤
You are such a good teacher!
Thank you so much!❤
I have thick wavy hair. I’m 63. I’m salt and pepper. I’m 19 months in. I love your videos thank you
Hi Julie! I am loving the education. I’m ready to take the plunge. I’ve bought a few things but would love for you to evaluate my hair and products before I go through with it. I color my own hair, but only the roots. I have very dark/ black hair with white coming in. Maybe 25-50% whit on top only. Also I can’t find Pravana Silver on Amazon. Do you have other suggestions/substitution ideas?
I would love to help you, can you send me pics of your hair through my Facebook page or email juliethehairapist@gmail.com.
Here's a link for the Pravana amzn.to/33vEyuu.
Hey, Julie. Love your videos. Miss you! Please share your recommendations DIY keratin treatment for curly girls like me.
I love G Hair you can get it from Amazon and I just finished doing this on my daughter and we did video I just need to edit it. Hopefully I should have done by tomorrow.
Julie The Hairapist Thanks. I know that’s what you’d used on me. My first at home try didn’t go so well. I used too much, & the fumes were overwhelming. I haven’t tried it again. I will when I get up the nerve, again. 😊
@@fresdh the biggest mistake we make is putting too much on especially when your hair is only curly at the scalp, you only put the product on the curly hair and less is more. Because you're doing it yourself, you can just do the back or the front one day and the finish another day. Also good ventilation, turn the heat down when you blow dry, make sure you blow dryer air is being directed away from your face. You can also use a fan to make sure the air is being blown away from your face. Miss you!
you always explain so well :) connie AKA "over70stillglamorous" :)
Love YOU Connie!🥰
Hi Julie. I too have finally discovered you and I'm stoked. Can I ask 2 questions? Firstly, I have ash/salt pepper hair and my main white bits are in front of my ears. I'm desperate for a lift (as I have dark leather skin too 😱). Would Silver or white highlights in front be a good idea (the money piece as you call it) and what would i ask the hairdresser to do? Also, should I ask for direct dye to do this? I'm in Australia and I know nothing, NOTHING, about hair, make up, girl things and I'm 61. Sad but true. Help appreciated :) thank you. So glad I found you
@jude so sorry for the late response, it's my son's Senior year of high school and he has me 🏃♀️. Yes you want a direct dye and I know you can find one at your local beauty supply if you send me a link to your beauty supply I can find one for you. You want your stylist to match those white "bits"❤. BUT not bleach the white new growth. Then when we remove the packets that entire is white natural at the new growth and light yellow from the line of demarcation through the ends. After the bleach is washed out the silver direct dye goes on the yellow hair but does nothing to the rest of the hair and turns the yellow hair icy white/silver. If you send me pics of your hair I can give you better advice juliethehairapist@gmail.com
Your videos are wonderful. My silver is top middle of my head. I've stopped highlighting it but definitely missing that light next to my face. It's difficult to find a stylist willing to work with silver and I'm too scared to attempt the money piece myself because most of my hair is still my previously highlighted (bleached) hair. Where are you located? I'd love for you to get me started on this transition!
@Abigail Tolbert sorry I was snowboarding before the season ends🤣 I’m 45 from SF. If I’m not in your area I can help you with a road map for a stylist or find a color that matches while you’re transitioning. Because you already have highlights you might just need a different tone. If you send me pics of your hair I can give you options for how to transition. Thank you for watching my super amateur videos ❤️juliethehairapist@gmail.com
How can I maintain the highlights my stylist created as the toner she’s using doesn’t last more than a week or two and then I’m back to blond highlights?
@Karla Woodard Super easy to do on your own. Toner is the name of a service, we can use permanent, semi-permanent or temporary color to tone hair. Using a lavender temporary color will cancel the yellow in your hair and leave icy. Temporary color is like using a conditioner so you can use it as often as you want and you can even rub into your dry, styled hair that appears yellow. Here's a couple that I like but all the brands have one. Temporary color is a NO developer color, what you see see is what you get. Apply to clean wet hair to keep it from getting too dark or dull. If your hair is not too porous then you can apply to dry hair for it to last longer. Apply from the line of demarcation to the ends but not through the ends. After you have applied every where then apply to the ends. Leave on 5 -10 minutes then rinse. You can rub the color off while processing once you like the color rinse don't shampoo unless it got too dark/violet. Thank you for watching my super amateur videos ❤️

Hi Julie, I see people with "The Money Piece" highlight are straight hair. I always wonder how it will look or work with people with curly or wavy hair. I love the look on you.
If you reply with your email I can send you pics. My hair is actually wavy and I liked my money on my curly hair better than my straight because it looks more natural on curly hair.
What if my hair is layered ? Like 4 inches for the top layer....will it look too stark ?
Hi Debbie, if you send me a pic of your hair juliethehairapist@gmail.com, then I can send you comparable pics so you can get a visual. Thank you for watching. ♥️
Hi! Thanks, Julie - you're giving me inspiration. Question: shouldn't I strip my boxed-color out before I bleach/tone? I'm brunette. Thank you!
Hi Shelley, great question you can strip the color first and then highlight. I don't ever choose that route not because it's wrong because I don't think it's worth it when you don't have to do that to the hair. If my client is solid white coming in then I will do back to back foils which creates a solid lightness. If she's sparkly coming in or streaks I match it and then tone to silver. It always blends the line and the client benefits from less damaged hair and stripping all color from the hair requires precision and meticulous skills. It's why the Jack Martin costs so much because that stripping part of the service takes hours and skills.
But it's not necessary and better for the hair to just highlight, match what's coming in and that's why I choose not to remove all the old color.
@@juliethehairapist Oh, thank you so much! You're so right: I learned about stripping the color first from Jack Martin. Somewhere along the line I also learned that I had to strip my hair because I've colored myself with L'oreal for 20 years. But I'd rather not put my hair through too much trauma. I'm going to try a test to see how it behaves. Thanks again!
@@shelleywettergren4813 the most important thing to do when you test strand is a skinny slice and good saturation so you give the hair everything it needs to lighten. Because you're doing a slow less damaging path, that test strand can be left on up to 2 hours. After 1 hour check every 15 min for lightness and integrity. When hair has been lightened too much it looks like mushy cotton. If you accidentally take your test strand to light no big deal it's just a small section of hair. But now you know to reduce the time. If you are lightening extremely dark hair you might not get all the way to yellow. But it will still be ok you will just need to tone to a darker silver. Please feel free to contact me if you need any more help.
@@juliethehairapist Thanks, Julie! I did a test strand on a skinny slice last night, checked after 30 minutes, then 1 hour. It was light reddish/orangish. After one hour I took it off because I was afraid I'd fry it. I felt defeated, but this morning I decided to try again (actually I thought I'd try stripping it). I'm not afraid of giving the bleach another try because, as you said, it's only a small strand. I'll try again and follow your directions. I appreciate you!
@@juliethehairapist Oh - P.S. I didn't see your message from two days ago until this morning. So you inspired me!
I tried to bleach out to get a white money piece, but it always turned bit purple or a bit blue, depending the the type of silver. It looked so bad, I put a Demi 6ash on it to just forget the blonde. Now I can't bleach it without a Neon pink/orange coming out right away. Do I need a color remover before I try again? My money piece used to be long, now it's curtain bangs from all the bleaching.
You can’t keep applying bleach to the hair. You can do it once and sometimes twice but no more than twice. The color blue, orange etc is from the artificial color.
@@juliethehairapist - my roots are "hot" from bleaching the money piece, so front roots are a bit orange. Is there a way to tone that out w a direct dye? Is there a brown or dark grey? How do I deal w a money piece grow out if I don't bleach?
Also, my hair I think is similar to yours at the back. Is there a silver or white dye that's safe because unlike you, I have thin, fine, fragile hair. I don't know how we find if you've answered or not either 🍀
@jude the best part about transitioning when your hair is fragile is your hair will be much more shiny, healthier and fuller. Hair color has a physical weight and that will be gone. Silver direct dyes are the equivalent to a silver conditioner they have pigment only no lifting chemicals or ammonia. Sorry for my late response.
What color would you use to color on money piece? I know you use direct dye.
Pravana Vivids Silver is my favorite color for toning a transition highlight IF I can get it light enough. If not then I eill still use Pravana but I would need the darker color which is Smokey Silver. The Pravana Silver is actually a lavender color to cancel the yellow highlights. The Smokey Silver is a light blue which will cancel the orange color and result in a darker grey color. There are several brands that work great, they even have them at Sally’s. If you send me pics of your hair I can give you better advice. juliethehairapist@gmail.com
Thank you, very helpful.
How can I support your channel?
@@annettefilpi1509 thank you so much and for watching my super amateur videos ❤️
What type of bleach do you use?
Great question I'm not picky about the brand but it is important to use a powder bleach not an "oil bleach". Oil bleach is for on the scalp and will not lighten your hair enough.
No higher than 20 volume
Mix to pancake consistency
Too thick it can't be absorbed, too thin it can't lighten.
Thin amount of hair in the foil for accurate application of the bleach.
If you have light pieces on the ends in the foil apply less bleach.
Do a strand test to determine timing.
Bleach can be left on the hair for up to 3 hours depending on strength of hair.
How do I find someone who can help me. My mother is a hair dresser retired and 74 she's making every excuse possible ,her answer is my hair will break etc etc . I have for years only colored where my white incidently just like yours when u pull your back .and moms answer is for me to cut my hair from my waste to my shoulders? I just don't think this is correct. When I call salons how do I ask for someone like you who is understanding what I'm trying to do. I'm now about 3 inches grown out gray as I'm just ready to stop doing touch ups...help...lol
I can help you with a temporary color until it grows out or a road map for a stylist to break the line of demarcation. Can you send me pics of your hair juliethehairapist@gmail.com
