- In a surprise announcement, China has declared an import ban on Taiwan pineapples, citing the presence of pests inside the fruit. The ban takes effect March 1, dealing a crippling blow to Taiwan farmers just ahead of harvest season. Taiwan''s agriculture minister has lodged a strong protest against the move. He said China found scale insects only in a tiny fraction of its Taiwan fruit, and that the pests can be easily killed by fumigation. The government has pledged NT$1 billion to help local farmers seek new markets.
China Central Television reports: China’s customs agency will suspend imports of Taiwan pineapples starting March 1. According to China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, scale insects were detected multiple times in the Taiwanese fruit, whose import could jeopardize the natural ecosystem. Taiwan’s agriculture minister has responded to the charge.

All the pineapples Taiwan exports to China and to another 16 countries are handled in line with WTO regulations. Whenever these three species of scale insects are detected at the border, the shipment can be made ready for market simply through the process of fumigation. Japan is a case in which this was done.
Pingtung is Taiwan’s biggest pineapple producer by area, followed by Tainan and Kaohsiung. The country’s total pineapple output is about 420,000 tons, and 90% of exports are sold to China. Now just ahead of the harvest season, Taiwan farmers face the loss of the Chinese market. The Executive Yuan and the Presidential Office have condemned China’s ban. Premier Su Tseng-chang said Taiwan is treating the incident as a, quote, “regulatory issue.” He said he hoped it wouldn’t escalate to a “political issue,” as was the case when China banned Australian lobster.

China banned Australian lobster imports and trampled over Australia. We hope China will work within the regulations.

Presidential Office spokesperson
The facts and scientific evidence are clear. Taiwan’s pineapples are very tasty, very safe, and very healthy. This act by China is indeed not well-intended. I do not believe it will win the support of the public.
The Tsai administration protested Beijing’s ban. It’s also set aside a budget of NT$1 billion to sell 30,000 tons of pineapples to other markets, to market the fruit in Taiwan and to diversify processing methods. The government says it hopes to keep prices above last year’s average of NT$21.3 per kilogram, to cushion farmers from the blow from Beijing.
Sell it to Australia. I am sure they will want it since you guys bought like 2 cases of red wine last year. LOL
Because the CCP dont know diplomacy. the are like kids that if you dont agree with them they go on a tantrum and force what they want whether its right or wrong ,thats is called coercion, that is why they will never be a good world leader .
@@respectthelaw8370 So can you remind me what the US has done to Huawei? Is it the same situation? Agree with me or die?
@@respectthelaw8370 bruh we did the same thing to the Russians by sanctioning them, it’s just how big governments work. It’s not like China should be forced to trade with them. Taiwan will adapt it’s whatever.
@@respectthelaw8370 I frequent China, on leisure or business. I found people lives quality improved through the years. Been to the rural areas where people do not have electricity in the past, and now they have internet. If we leave the politicking of China vs the World aside, I still think they have good leaders in China.
Btw, China does not aspire to be "World" leader, they leave the all mighty US to stir shit.
More for us I guess :)
that's exactly what I was thinking. pineapple cakes have been in short supply here in the US. please send more!
@@Douglas.Kennedy That we will do!
Donald Trump like pineapples...farmers can sent to Mar a Lago
Singapore also ban it one month later citing same. Singapore doesn't bull in its decision.
Sell it to Philippines and Thailand
You won't believe it...they grown pineapple too
@Comrad Civil that’s great for the Philippines , they need the money more then Taiwan does. Their economy is not as strong as taiwans that’s very fair.
India Taiwan🇹🇼🇮🇳
Oh my, can Indians even afford imported pineapples?
@Kenelm Pace lol, india wont buy over priced pineapple from taiwan
Taiwan pineapple export to Singapore recently. The pineapple is poor quality. Black rotting in the pineapple core, no sweetness, poor taste and not fragrant. Singapore stopped selling Taiwan pineapple.
If there is a bug in the pineapples then it is up to the Taiwanese to get rid of it before selling them is it not so ?
LOL. MAINLANDERS will not fuss if TAIWANESE admit that they are still their cousins and fully CHINESE citizens. ONCE reunification is happening, those few bugs will never be a big deal anymore.
@@syawalauchika1884 reunification has already begun it was agreed by the Taiwanese Government in 1992.
We all know that this goes further than scale insects...
it is reciprocal
Taiwan can hold a Miss Pineapple pageant lol, winner gets 1 ton Pineapple each year.
2:34 『台湾パイナップル』It looks like a box for export to Japan. I'm happy with it.
The Netherlands is an easy entry market. for the EU.
My like is for the video. Not the actions being reported on.
Can sell it to America ... ( aren’t they Taiwan best friends? ) can make beautiful Hawaii pizzas .

Good job mainland china.Taiwanness can eat pinaeapples everyday. it is very health food.
South Korea markets are welcoming Taiwanese pineapples!!
YES and ask for 99% discount honey. LOL
People in the free and democratic countries all over the world should import and eat Taiwan's freedom pineapple!🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚
Particularly Australians should eat more Taiwan's freedom pineapples, the Taiwan govt has bought 200 bottles of Australian freedom wine after all ...🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚
Haha ,should ban any poisonous Taiwanese fruits, lol
If you think Taiwanese fruits are poisonous then you need some mental health. Taiwan isn't called the fruit capital of the world for no reason. And commas come before the space
Beijing also halted shipments to Japan of rare earth minerals In 2010.
The Red China is a common enemy of mankind.
Yeah but why should China have to trade with Japan, as far history has taught me japan has done nothing but bad things to China. Ww2 comes into mind why the fuck should China feel bad for not selling to a country that looks down on it?
IDK of why TAIWANESE keep refusing ONE COUNTRY, TWO SYSTEMS and keep siding with the evil Western imperialists.
PRC can ban more to make Taiwanese suffer further. TAIWANESE can not expect Mainlanders to keep buying their products while insulting Mainlanders in daily basis on their TV shows. Show some respect to your buyers and bosses.
You dont know because unlike them you dont like freedom ,you want your CCP boss to tell what you need to do ,and what to need to say .
@@respectthelaw8370 😂 And tell that to DPP leaders and Tsai Ing Wen regime. They closed down CTI NEWS but allow FALUN GONG NTD news to broadcast their daily garbage in Taiwan. Freedom of press in Taiwan😂, not really. BEIJING PUNISHMENT has started. The pineapples ban is just the beginning.
With all the hostilities from Taiwan, Beijing should not only ban pineapples, but also sugar-apples, guavas, and other fruits. Maybe China should also ban the 1,000,000 Taiwanese working in China.
Perfectly agree with u!
