A few months ago I had to make a rushed character in the 10 minutes before the session, and in my panicked scramble to complete her I named her Ta-ko. Ta-ko Selod. i usually listen to it while i'm doing other stuff, but i also found transcripts cause i've found reading along helps to focus on it. tazscripts.tumblr.com/tazscripts is really good and also has links for a lot of the references they make
This is superb. This is a MUST listen if you like D&D (even if you've never played), fantasy, Lord of the rings, comedy etc. It is funny and delivered in a way that makes it very listenable (not caught up with rules all the time). If you like this, also try My Brother My Brother and Me (podcast) as this is what started The Adventure Zone. Over 300 episodes. Extremely funny.
I was reading this, and I was a bit confused, and I'd thought, "man, lovely and honest, but wait, why is he saying this, I mean it's like a review, it contains a suggestion so it could be informative, and it's written as if it's addressing an audience, but that would just be the people reading the comment section... so ... but it's constructed and concise, almost journalistic in a ... wait, it's a comment." I’ve never played Dungeons *or* Dragons, but just listening to this episode made me want to research the rules & now I have two characters made already. Thanks, boys!
Reminds me of an interaction I had in my campaign. See we had this Triton sorcerer and he was telling everyone about how good of a sorcerer he was. He started by saying that "I'm a sorcerer." And before he could finish another character jumps in and says "No you're a fish."
our bard was nearly killed while trying to climb a cliff side we where meant to climb, and she rolled a Nat 1 causing a large rock to nearly kill her. Luckily our Paladin saved her with their shield.
I always liked playing Neutral characters, at worst I was Chaotic Neutral. I was a wizard who had a Woodcutter Ax for more sentimental reasons that belonged to her brother. The best way I could describe her was a Living Moodswing. The kind of person who could casually throw death threats and then make innocent jokes a second later. It was pretty fun because she was my first character too. I established early on that you never EVER, touch my Ax by murdering a guy who took it while I was eating (total accident, I was stronger than I thought. I ended up causing a riot that ended with us being arrested)
I play chaotic good mostly, once there was a really shifty shop owner who I was pretty sure was probably evil so I killed him and distributed his wares amongst my party. He was evil, some of the stuff he was trying to sell was cursed

Going from Critical Role and Matt's 'all rules must be followed' style to the 'what are rules' style of The Adventure Zone is very disorienting and a little frustrating but still enjoyable.

As someone who recently went through the whole TAZ Balance story I will tell newcomers that it is a really great investment. I cried several times and this series really went somewhere. At first it starts out as "Goof-goof-dildo" but it tugs at your heartstrings towards the end. the McElroy family is very funny and Griffen made a fantastic story that I'm going to listen to again because I just love their whole dynamic. The characters are all memorable and you want them to win. The story has lots of twists and you should stick with it through all 69 episodes. go onto maximumfun.org and find their "the 'the adventure zone' zone" episodes where they discuss the nuances of the story and there are also live episodes to listen to. This series introduced me to MbMbaM and I love their humor a lot. Welcome to the adventure zone!
WHEN DOES TAAKO GET THE VOICE Edit: 2 months later, finished Balance and Amnesty and I've gotta say...there's something fucking special about this show. Storytelling like this is a rare thing these days.
Jade yung The mcelroys, justin specifically made a statement after an unofficial comic was released, in which there were discussions of why the cast was all-white, saying that the designs would be revisited, and by extension, the fact that all of them were white, was boring. Just so you know.
Roleplay Host I mean, he's an elf so it's really up to artistic merit on what people wanna do with his skin colour. As for canon appearances, aside from what is explicity stated concerning items they have, there's really no canon appearance for any of the characters.
Bliffity The players are all related. The DM, Magnus and Taako are all brothers (listed there from youngest to oldest), and Merle's player is their dad.
Bliffity I said the PLAYERS. The actual humans talking in the podcast, rolling dice and eating chips. Not the fictional characters. Travis McElroy plays Magnus, Justin McElroy is Taako, Griffin McElroy is their DM, and their father Clint is Merle.
As for the retrieval of thrown things, our DM likes to have it that if it's an arrow you get half back after the battle (assuming you have the chance) and if it's something a thrown weapon you just get them back (again, if you have the chance to loot).
If I had a character who was really really smart and perceptive, and had every single DnD spell related to Elementals, but the rest of him was shit, would he still be OP?
I think this was amazing! Everyone is really getting into their Characters later on into the episodes, after watching this I'm literally reading the DND players guide. I love you guys!!! Keep it up! 🤗👍❤️
I’m planning to DM this same adventure soon with my younger siblings so it is fun to listen to this. It is also nice to see a more casual DM style because not everyone can be a Matthew Mercer (although he is amazing and my idol).
Bless you for giving my friends and I the idea of getting together and playing D&D for the first time. We are writing a story and decided to use D&D to develop our characters.
My first ever DnD campaign, we got into a tavern fight with a wolf and everyone kept rolling HORRIBLY (including the wolf) so we spent like a solid 15 minutes just WHIFFING like crazy. 🤣
Started listening this cause I heard great things. But lost interest cause I knew absolutely nothing about DnD. Just played my first campaign about a week ago and suddenly everything makes sense.
Ok, I came here from an EmptyFeet animation literally one second ago, and I have no idea what this is. It sounds amazing, so I am going to sit here for hours figuring out what the hell is going on. And I am going to love it.
It's pretty adorable they got their Dad to play with them.
The dad fits in so well I kind of feel like he raised them to be the way they are.
indiciaobscure
I mean
He was their dad
So
I would assume so
The McElroys are super close and friendly with each other. Their dad is always super cool about being a part of stuff as well.

Bliffity The players are all related. The DM, Magnus and Taako are all brothers (listed there from youngest to oldest), and Merle's player is their dad.
John G
Wrong. They're in different species. For example, how would a dwarf produce an elven child? You have a very deep misunderstanding of biology.
Bliffity I said the PLAYERS. The actual humans talking in the podcast, rolling dice and eating chips. Not the fictional characters. Travis McElroy plays Magnus, Justin McElroy is Taako, Griffin McElroy is their DM, and their father Clint is Merle.
John G
I have not heard them eating chips, which makes you a liar.
How can I trust anything a liar says?
You think 3 is pitiful? My party has 2
Fanta
Same its just me and my sister 😅 our dad DMs
when a video has 47 thousand plus views but only has 666 likes. *silence* I'm breaking the chain.
Leet 1337 yeah
Not if you change the plot to suit that,no
Actually, in calculus, 0 times infinity is, in fact, 1.
where's your proof
Playing Skyrim for the 1st time while re-listening to TAZ for the third time = 2021's insta-cure for boredom.
Aaaaand here I go, starting this undoubtedly mad adventure.
BARRY!!!! I love listening to this years later
I think this was amazing! Everyone is really getting into their Characters later on into the episodes, after watching this I'm literally reading the DND players guide. I love you guys!!! Keep it up! 🤗👍❤️
What’s your race?
Justin: white
Me: *rolling*
"You eat the Oxen...-no don't do that!"
After listening to all 60 something episodes I find it hard to believe Griffin only DMed once before
OMG YES. 4th edition totally turned everyone into a wizard and griffin agrees with me! I feel so vindicated! :D
break ends at 1:29:16
Thanks!
Soteria Thx
I’m planning to DM this same adventure soon with my younger siblings so it is fun to listen to this. It is also nice to see a more casual DM style because not everyone can be a Matthew Mercer (although he is amazing and my idol).
Having taco bell when I heard his name :3
Bless you for giving my friends and I the idea of getting together and playing D&D for the first time. We are writing a story and decided to use D&D to develop our characters.
My first ever DnD campaign, we got into a tavern fight with a wolf and everyone kept rolling HORRIBLY (including the wolf) so we spent like a solid 15 minutes just WHIFFING like crazy. 🤣
I am SO enjoying re-discovering this comedic quartet once more... :D
I will conceive glorious three handed babies while I eat Mastodon meat and listen to this.
Fortnite
What... what th.... wh-
they start at 33:00
Bless you
Started listening this cause I heard great things. But lost interest cause I knew absolutely nothing about DnD. Just played my first campaign about a week ago and suddenly everything makes sense.
Percy Ross Homestuck?
Ryusaki -.- you two like homestuck too? :?
I never played DnD but I still listened to it
This was the podcast that finally got me to start creating my first campaign (which I'm calling "The Cultist's Den").
Ok, I came here from an EmptyFeet animation literally one second ago, and I have no idea what this is. It sounds amazing, so I am going to sit here for hours figuring out what the hell is going on.
And I am going to love it.
It's 9 months later,,, how's it g o i n g ?
Are the rest being posted? I do listen to the podcast, but my mom is mostly just youtube savvy and she loves especially what's here so far
"you could throw your shield at him captain america"
I don't wear seatbelts
Neither do i, homestuck from 2 years ago
Did.. he say brace your asses? What have you gotten me into, Jace...?
I absolutely love listening to DnDs when I'm drawing
I'm watching TAZ for the first time.
I'm going to hell, am I?
Justin really took the "name will be revealed later" thing and ran with it huh?
"You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!" Finally, a joke I actually get!
Alrighty, listen here, this stuff here is freaking awesome. I love it!!!
