My 126 sat for a long time in the weather. The trunk will no longer open with the lock in any position. I have it in horizontal position and have tried bouncing the trunk a bit to loosen it up. So far no luck. Any suggestions?
Did you mount the center high-mounted third brake light or did your car come with it installed? I don't typically see them in pre-1986 models since that was when the requirement started.
The original owner added it a long time ago. Apparently it came from the dealer because it has Mercedes part numbers on it. It was very common in the mid 80s for folks to add the third light to cars made before 86 because, unlike many ideas from the government, this one was a really good idea. LOL.......

when you secure trunk vertical, valet key can not unlock
Unfortunately my car did not come with a valet key but it would never get used anyway because I would never let a valet have my car. 😂😂

From reading my owners manual, that feature does not exit on this 84 300SD. I assume it does on more expensive or later models.
I thought you could also unlock the doors from the trunk also. 🤔 Maybe I'm thinking of a different car.
yes, you can do that with w126 .... Let me rephrase that to be more accurate. My 85 300SD can open and close the the doors using the truck lock.
According to the 300SD owner's manual that feature is not on this car.

I remember now which car, it was. My parents, 91 w124 was the car that could unlock the doors from the trunk. I feel better now.
