The Best Omega Seamaster 300M That You Forgot About: 3 Month Review Of The Ceramic/Titanium SMP

  • The Omega Seamaster 300M is relatively new in the grand scheme of dive watches without the long history of the Rolex Submariner or many other Seiko divers like the MM300, Tuna, and Turtle/ Captain Willard. Yet the Seamaster 300M has carved out a place of its own in history as the “James Bond Watch.” Ever since its introduction in 1995, it's been a popular choice amongst dive watch fans, and the latest version, released in 2018, has been the most popular yet. And with good reason.
    I originally bought the new 42mm Seamaster 300M in 2018 and I fell in love right away. But for some reason I ended up selling it during a consolidation phase late 2019. Earlier this year I was able to spend some time with my cousin’s SMP and it solidified my need to rebuy one at some point.
    Now finally after 4 years, I rebought a Seamaster 300M and I am ecstatic. But which one did I buy considering how much I obsessed over the incredible black dial variant? In this video I get into the dimensions and details of my new SMP (The Ceramic and Titanium Seamaster 300M reference number 210.92.44.20.01.001 ) and I of course get into why I chose the watch that I chose.

    this is the exact path I went. got steel version, sold, regretted, ended up getting the ceramic and WOW. no regrets. amazing piece

    I had both. The steel version and the ceramic version. Steel is long gone. No regrets so far. This watch is in a different league. One more thing. This is not a Seamaster 300. It is a Seamaster 300M or also known as 300 SMP 🙂.

    I love my Seamaster 300M's (one's a rare reference 2230.50.00 "non-AC" swords hand model from 2006, and the other is a brand new Cal. 8800 blue dial one)
    Both fly under the radar on a rubber strap 😋

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  6 місяців тому +1

      I've had my eye on the 2230.50.00 for quite some time alongside the 2254! I love the bezel on the 2230 and i can imagine it looks great on a rubber strap! Lets see which SMP will be the second SMP for me😄

      @@thewatchidiotIndeed, the white gold bezel looks like a million bucks (along with the applied dial indices and Omega logo), I see it as kind of the "last hoorah" from Omega with the cal. 1120 before they introduced the Co-Axial 2500 in their models 😋
      What I appreciate (though not utilize) is the 1610/930 Speedy style bracelet, which also looks great on the transitional "SMPc" model from 2012-2018 with the pitch black ceramic dial and bezel: unfortunately it doesn't fit the newest model as it has different lug hole placements
      Let us know if you go semi-vintage with a 00's icon hahah: can't go wrong with either the 2254 or the 2230 👌

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  6 місяців тому

      Yeah the entire package is great with the smaller size, and the hands and indices. I hope they bring it back! And yes a huge part of the appeal for me is that tapering speedy bracelet, I think it suits the watch much more than the usual SMP multi link bracelet. I hope they bring back that style of bracelet as an option. I'm hoping for a lot of things 😅

    Beautiful watch but the size is just too much for me. If Omega releases a 40mm case version one day, I could seriously consider it. Steel for me, I miss the date function.

    It was only a matter of time before you got one! It was clear in your steel smp video that you loved it very much but this ceramic one was definitely a surprise! It's a fantastic looking watch though and I didn't realize the price on these were that low on the secondary market but the 6k price point makes this a great buy for something that striking

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  6 місяців тому

      Yeah the SMP lived in my mind rent free for years lol! At the 6k price point this watch offers insane value, I wasnt really thinking about it until I saw it in the hodinkee shop. I'm still surprised by how much i like this ceramic SMP and its even to the point where I might not need to get another one! but who knows lets see what happens I've got my eye on a 2254 or a 2264 for extra easy wearability.

    I'm blown away by how good Omega got the finishing and brushing on that ceramic case! I do miss the days where Omega were much more reasonably priced than Rolex and really occupied the space that Tudor does today pricewise.
    Such a great watch! I wore a 42mm Planet Ocean daily for almost 11 years and sold it and have also regretted that ever since. I need to get back into a Seamaster again in the future.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  6 місяців тому

      Thank you as always Marc!! Yeah the finishing is still grabbing my attention to this day which is solidifying it's place as a...(gasp) keeper watch. I really want to try out the Planet Ocean it's such a great design and the bracelet is way better so I feel like that's an experience that I need to have at some point, especially now considering your good experience with it! I've had my eye on the last gen 42mm one with the orange numbers for quite some time now 😬

    Nice one TWI, welcome back to the 300M club. There were times that I pondered reducing my watch collection and after many spreadsheets containing wrist time, value, comfort etc my Great White stainless steel oddly looked like one of the ones that could be considered to move on. As you know I'm not really a watch seller but as it 'could' have been a candidate I wore it for a few days and no way was this going to be sold, oddly the other candidates were worn following and well in summary none of my watches are moving on. Anyway I'm waffling. Congratulations on the new SMP300, it looks fantastic. The reverse polished dial looks great and the loss of the date is no big deal. Which FKM strap did you fit? Many thanks for sharing.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Anthony, I'm happy to be back in the club and I'm hoping to never leave it!! I do the same thing, if I'm ever on the fence about selling a watch I don't wear it for a while and then I see how it feels to wear it afterwards. The first time around with the steel SMP it somehow didn't make the cut plus the MM300 was taking up much of my wrist time and I decided to let the SMP go. The regret kicked in soon afterwards lol! So I'm glad to hear that you're leaning towards keeping it but of course anything can happen.
      I'm still surprised that the reverse polished dial is hooking me in and it doesn't show any signs of fading away in terms of interest either! Here's a link to the fkm strap on my SMP! I've got one in every size now it's definitely my favorite rubber strap now

    Hey, great choice! I own the same watch and I love it, however what's somewhat disappointing is the not so bright lumes? Sure if I shine a bright light on it it does light up, but in general the dial is hard to read as the lumes are weak.... Do you see the same on yours?

    I’ve got the stainless steel black dial SMP diver/300 on my wrist as I watch this video. What rubber strap is that? It doesn’t look like the Omega OEM strap.
    Edit: lol I should’ve watched the whole video first. Omega OEM strap looks nice. I’d spring for it if I knew for certain it would fit my 8.2 inch wrist. Do you think it would?

And it allows me to make longer term review videos as well which offers up more insights. Quite a few of my own watches are sold in the background because its not possible to keep every single watch forever!
