What an unbelievable orchestra, conductor, and cast of singers. No screamers, screechers, wobblers, - all with beautiful voices and superb musicianship. Super, clear balanced orchestra. What a work, and what a performance.
...Henschel.... Reuter.....Schwanewilms.....Goerke.... Gratulation und danke für posten:-)
This has been, for many years, my favorite opera, above anything by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Monteverdi, Händel or anyone else. To hear a cast of uniformly firm and healthy voices in this work is a first in my experience. And to have it uncut is a real treat! It makes such a difference to hear the quartet between the Nurse, the Spirit Messenger and the offstage Dyer couple. And Jurowski is a genius.
I saw this opera at ROH COVENT GARDEN several years ago ..ACT 3 was something of a shambles in last 25mins ,so it's great to see a VG performance albeit concert here..
What a spectacular opera. Five killer roles executed brilliantly. Saw a similar cast later at the Met. I finally appreciate the potential of the music written for Barak's wife as sung here so splendidly.
Strauss !!! Sublime.
Sublime performance from all involved. The orchestra sounds fantastic under Jurowski and all the soloists seem like a dreamcast. Goerke really exceeded my expectations (which were high to begin with)!
GeorgePBucklin Superb ! What a glorious cast...rival I got many performances seen since it’s glorious premiere at the opening of the new Met...Goerke!!
Absolut eine der besten Interpretationen dieser Oper. Bei dieser Qualität vermisst man keine Operinszenierung. Spitzenorchester, "grosser" Dirigent: Proficiat Maestro Vladimir Jurowski
FURCHTBAR GESUNGEN.... BESONDERS DIE KAISERIN UND FÄRBERIN, TOTALE FEHLBESETZUNG..... MANN DENKE NUR AN DIE AUFNAHME BÖHM/RYSANEK/NILSSON. UND DIE SCHLUSS TÖNE NUR ANGETIPPT, SO SINGT MANN DASS HEUTE 🤮🤮🤮
58:13 After all the hurt and journeys the Empress had to gone.... that's what even touches me with tears, and the way the female singers corrospond to each other, wow- (1:2:05)
correct, it's not about forgetting, it's about discovering the opera as if for the first time again. Besides, for some of us, this performance really is the first time. What a terrific night!
Emotionally, Behrens' performance is still the best. But I can't wait to hear Goerke in this role at the Met. Her sound has the perfect color. Alfred Muff was the best Barak of all time.
I find Anne Schwanewilms way too lyric and lacking in passion, compared to some of her predecessors she sounds like a soubrette reading a laundry list! Strauss wrote some of the most magnificent music ever for the Kaiserin and here it just washes over like water on a ducks back! Henschel is sadly passed her prime here.
I felt the same, but then I heard her sing this role at the Metropolitan Opera and I was stunned by the large size of the voice, - in spite of it's timbre. I found her a strong presence there vocally as well as dramatically.
@@dgbx6 i was there for two performances. the voice is not large but very focused and penetrating. unlike the haters, i thought she was wonderful in the role. the tone does tend to be quite thin sometimes.

agreed. my favorite opera too for about 15 years now. thankfully, san francisco opera is FINALLY mounting it this coming season.
Do you know KORNGOLD DAS WUNDER DER HELIANE.. ? Very similar in musical language /tone to DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN ...

Can't wait for the top quartet to perform this again at the Met in November. Fantastic cast. Christine Goerke--you are the bomb!

Weil Vladimir Jurowski künstlerisch großartig ist, und weil er gross ist
*Sie* vermissen vielleicht keine Operninszenierung, aber reden Sie da bitte nicht von "man".

Beautiful. But will never be able to forget the performance with Nilsson-Rysanek though.

Overwhelming. If you have a surround sound system and a subwoofer, you're in for a real treat.
please please publish as DVD! how wonderful this is!
What a magnificent experience! How I envy the audience, but then I always do when I get a chance to watch anything performed at Concertgebouw.
Schwanewilms sings perfectly in tune and not pushing pushing up from below....
MrEjfnyc That's a joke, right?
ZUM 🤮WIE SIE KAISERIN SINGT. KEIN TON RICHTIG ODER SCHÖN GESUNGEN
grande Vladimir Jurowski!
Bravo to everyone involved. This is a first rate performance of the music. I don't even mind the "no sets", etc.
You should book them all to Connecticut, Rowna.
I doubt if it can make anyone forget..although it is a good performance.

Acacia Bloom Well stated. I hadn't known it, but I was feeling similarly.... hahah
