Extremely informative. As a 58 F applying, I think learning a new language is going to be a challenge but so looking forward to a challenge. Great video.

That's so cool you earned Superior at the end of your service! I didn't know that ;) I have enjoyed learning new Spanish words from you, having never taken a Spanish class in my life! Way to go. Just goes to show what drive and focus can do!

Thanks for the video! Was very curious about how you’re so amazing at Spanish!

This was definitely one of my main concern as I was asking you questions about in on fb messenger. Thanks for making a video on it!

I will also mention, that sometimes the language you are taught during Pre-Service training is not the language you end up needed in your site. Peace Corps will ensure that you know the most widely spoken language and give you training on some additional common languages/dialects, but you may get to site and find that you need to learn another local language. On the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, for example, they speak Creole and a few different indigenous languages as well.

I love your channel! Your videos are always so incredibly helpful. I almost teared up when you said you obtained a superior at the end! How cool! I was wondering if I could pick your brain about some other specific questions regarding PC, maybe via email or Facebook messenger? Thanks so much!

You are too kind! And, yes of course-- if I think your questions are relevant to other prospective volunteers I will include them in a future video.

I already had my LPI before getting to country via Zoom. I wonder if I will still have one at the beginning of PST?

I've served in 3 countries (Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal), and no "trainees" were ever sent home because they didn't reach the recommended language level at the end of PST. All those who didn't reach the level they needed to be at, were given another LPI at 3 months of service, and all passed. Plus, as of 2019 (prior to the pandemic evacuations), the LPI is now given at all conferences too (like Mid-Service). Just an FYI :)

Thanks for the update! Definitely a few things have changed since I made this video. I would just want to verify that LPIs are given to all volunteers at mid-service. When I served from 2016-2018, those of us who had an "advanced" LPI score at the end of training were not tested at Mid-Service, but everyone else was. Thanks for your service!

By chance, do you know how the people who started as beginners tested at the end of their service?

There are definitely people who make it all the way to intermediate mid or high or even some of the advanced categories. It honestly depends on how much you are integrated into your site and focused on your work. Sometimes TEFL volunteers have a harder time improving their English, however, since their work (15-30 hours per week) is all in English.
