    Burt Rutan inspired me in the late seventies to be an aeronautical engineer, but I entered in mechanical engineering instead.
    Due to difficulties in understanding fisics and mathematics, I finally graduated in accounting, but my passion on planes continues today!
    This year I had the pleasure to see Burt at the AirVenture on Oshkosh.
    I great man and a wonderful aeronautical engineer!

      Depending on reference source, there's up to Nine currently flying. Parent company Raytheon sold the entire stock of spare parts to one of the owners, and many of the parts used for engines, landing gear, control systems and avionics are common to other aircraft, or variations of what is used in other craft, so the majority of parts other then airframe-specific are not dificult to obtain.
      The nature of Carbon Composites though, over time cracking and aging, will lead to a requirement to replace signifigant components, though manufacture of composite parts is now much more common, and should fall in to the same catagory as maintaining any classic aircraft. It'll be less expensive then keeping FiFi in the air.

      There are a total of 6 airworthy examples from what I last read. I actually live down the street from the facility in Addison, Texas where they maintain two of them (NC-33 and NC-50).

    Beechcraft Starship so advanced for a aircraft from the 80's, so sad it was a commercial flop. No one was ready for such a change in aviation when it appeared.

    • @Subgunman
      @Subgunman 4 місяці тому

      The flop occurred when Beechcraft marketed the airplane to include ALL maintenance covered by Beech. The problem arose with the company that carried out the maintenance, they were overcharging Beech to the point where it was not economically reasonable to support the aircraft so Beech recalled all of the leases offering operators KingAirs. Those owning the few refused to sell them back.

    Okay - that looks like a craft right out of a James Bond movie - should be called a 'Beechcraft 007'... with appropriate secret agent music playing during the fly-by.
    1:33 - meanwhile - whoever came up with the idea for a plane with an outrigger for its twin engine? Very "Polynesian"-looking.

    The Starbarge was Beechcrafts biggest failures! They thought they knew more than Rutan. That is why they stopped building them. They are slow and terrible performance. They even tried leasing them and they all got returned!

    • @PiDsPagePrototypes
      @PiDsPagePrototypes 4 місяці тому

      Arrr, Nope. They didn't 'get returned'. Beechcraft cancelled the leases to bring back the ones they had control over. The economics of the period, including a luxury tax, and the then higher price of the Carbon Composite parts, had more effect on sales then any other factors. None of the aircraft that had been bought (not leased) were returned by the customers, Beechcraft created a program to incentivise the customers to update to a newer product, just the same as the car industry does to get you to trade-in your old for new.
      They are not 'slow' or have 'terrible performance', what they were, was expensive for Beechcraft to build.

      @jhaedtler 4 місяці тому

      @@PiDsPagePrototypes You may want to check your facts. I remember when they were giving rides away at the airport where they did the flight tests and no one wanted to go! When Cutter used them for charter flights no one wanted them a second time! Beech screwed the pooch on this one!
