Asif was a pure TV broadcast bowler. The ball travlled with ideal speed without a blurr from the release to destiny. Every frame was there to enjoy the artistry. You could draw the trajectory in your mind. Like when afridi hits a sixer, its so quick It just happens "BANG". On the other hand when inzimam hits a six, you see every moment of that process, from the start to going down the wicket till that "delicious" golf club swing. Yummy
To go full pop culture, mine is poker analogy where Mohd. Asif is Mike McD / Matt Damon from ‘Rounders’ vs Teddy KGB in their final showdown. Lulling opponent into pattern then doing the opposite. The final shot of Damon getting in a cab with a bag of cash heading to Vegas also fits!
Gentlemen, I have only seen/heard 3 episodes and so far this is my favorite. For me, Asif will always be one of those things you think of when you have a light buzz and you are contemplating life (the What if!).
Great pod guys. Been a long term admirer of both of yours work. One thing i really like about that Asif's dismissal of Joyce is Geof Boycott's commentary on it. He really gets and appreciates what Asif was trying to do there. Keep these pods coming ❤️
After going through the series , i have realized that Shakespeare was a time traveler who traveled forward in time watched subcontinental cricket went back and wrote all his plays based on all his experiences
I was there in the national stadium on day 1. What an inning by Kamran. Shoaib bouncer smacked into Sachin’s helmet late in the day, before Asif cleaned up Laxman.
I used to play youth club cricket at sharjah and i met asif , the pak players would interact with a bunch of youth there and i was even blessed enough to play a couple bowls by abdul razzaq. I was sucha fan boy of asif that when him and amir (who i was also a big fan of) got banned i just stopped playing cricket all together. I still believe if had they not done what they did and play 2011 wc we would've bought it home. Its a shame to say the least what we missed out on.
Brilliant Episode! Really loved it. Just some thoughts on Asif's career that it felt like that movie which has those crazy moments but the story never really gets going into something complete and it has finished while you keep searching for that closure. Another point is that although he played only 23 tests but most of them were against major oppositions which also like included SENA tours. That also set of helped grow the legend of Asif even more.
I wish he hadn’t screwed up big time. He was an amazing bowler both Asif and Amir gave us false hope after 2W’s retiring especially Asif I recall him being very economical and disciplined wrt line & length I guess when he wasn’t high on weed and whatnot.
Pichle episode mein you talk about how as a writer you want to write that blockbuster first line to start an article & how it's not possible but on repeated listenings of this episode the start to this episode with "giraftar hona, tehelka machana aur fast bowling ke betaaj baadshah" is exactly that.
Please do a piece (or series) on greatest "lost-potential" cases of Pakistan cricket. We all know about Amir and Asif. Would love to see your take on what other gems we never knew we lost.
And if you are taking requests, please do one on greatest commentary bits (got the idea/yearning after listening to your comments on Nasser and Benaud)
Asif is/was the ultimate "Taira Londa". Taira Londas are ofcourse brilliant. That's why we remember them otherwise what would be the point. Their mind is always working on probing the "system" to find exploits, weaknesses, vulnerabilities. The "Taira Londa" that found the genius way to cheat in the Stats mid-term also walks into a gas station, picks-ups candy and walks out without paying for it. They steal lighters from their friends when they don't even smoke. They steal their Professors pen every single time they are in-class even when they have a bag full of pens. You see them graduated with 3.0 GPA. You see them land a position at Oracle. You hear that they became Director of Sales in 3 years. And you don't get surprised when you hear that they got let go because they got caught stealing Cigarette from their manager when they don't even smoke. Their downfall is in-evitable, that's not what's intriguing about them. Its what they got away with during their rise that keeps them alive in our memories.
@@BattaFast Sir every Karachi walla Londa knows one. Guy had a million dollar brain magar adath say majboor tha. Ab chunna raga Raha hoota hai Hyundai kee dealership pay.
You know what, I still can’t believe we lost a gem like Asif, each time I see his bowling clip on social media I feel sad, and insta question comes to mind “ how the F*ck we lost bowler like Asif so early” Honestly I can’t blame Asif, it’s our PCB Management failure at every level, indeed Asif was loose cannon but that’s what most of the every field geniuses are and it’s Management’s responsibility to look after them, you can’t just blame player and walk away from your key responsibilities

Just brilliant. Cousin Greg. Genius.

I can not look at Asif the same way anymore.
Great episode guys. I can’t get enough of these episodes. Please keep them coming.
Loved this episode. Gladdddd you people came up with the idea of this podcast.

hahaha awww thanks
One bowler who reminds me of Asif is Vernon Philander. Just there and there abouts and also had this supreme sense of self assuredness.
Please do a piece (or series) on greatest "lost-potential" cases of Pakistan cricket. We all know about Amir and Asif. Would love to see your take on what other gems we never knew we lost.
Great podcast.
Funnily enough, Cousin Gregg looked exactly Asif in his heyday!
Asif insulted the batsmen before getting them out . Amazing bowler
R u talking about Wasiq ismail Rao from Cardiff uni 2008/2009
Know as mr 7 in cardiff
( from multan )
the one and only
even with his gentle pace the stumps used to cart wheel ... what a bowler he was ... the only one who did not realize that was ASIF himself :(
He was just magician of the bowl
He was bowler of bowlers

The frame behind Ahmer Naqvi is so damn fascinating. Can you show the picture in full?
its by the artist digink
Thank you so much!
Only podcast jahan chars aur cricket aik jummlay main aati hay😂
I remember saying to someone that Asif is good enough to be a spinner - getting batsmen out through guile. Questionable temperament, though.
Sarfraz Nawaz use to say about him in nets that this guy has a kind of control ….. place a coin and He will hit that it all day long ……
