Finally worked my way through the set last weekend. Thought they handled "Fix" really well.
The 6th doctor is definitely underrated
Especially during his second season. Not to mention the Big Finish audio plays.
Unusual that Janet Fielding would struggle to be heard. When she does the Behind The Sofa segments, she never shuts up !
Can't wait to watch this set, though, love it.
Colin actually interrupts one of her stories at one point, and we never get to hear the end of it. 👀
This is the first Collection Limited Edition I've gotten and the box is just so beautiful, it's just sublime 10/10 Box and artwork imo
After six out of nine 80s boxsets, this is the first 80s Dalek story on blu ray!
Meaning that every future 80s boxset will have Daleks on (Five Doctors, Resurrection and Remembrance!)

Season 22 is very strong, imho; the only real dud is Timelash, and it's cheerfully nuts more than actually bad 🙂. (Although the Rani's tree mines deserve an honourable mention 😁)

I'm hoping it's better the second time around because when I watched it in 2019 I thought it was complete shit. The one with the Rani was the only story that was halfway decent.
The initial tree transmogrification scene was rather good. But the later scene where the tree bends over to save Peri was horrendous. 🤪
Most entertaining, as usual. Ma y thanks. Biggest surprise for me is hearing that Janet Fielding had difficulty getting a word in the Fix with Sontarans commentary...she's always the dominant one on the sofa sessions!! I'm looking forward to that now. If there are any new bits with Patrick Troughton in the Two Doctors then this would make the purchase of the box set worthwhile in itself.
I’m dedicated to the standard editions and this one comes out very soon! Can’t wait! I’ve always had an appreciation for Season 22, although it has a lot of faults. I bet Revelation in HD is a…erm… revelation!

I adore season 22 - controversial, I know. In my opinion the strongest 80s season, and probably the strongest since season 14 - but I doubt many will agree with that 🤣 Really hoping for a Hartnell boxset next 🤞 Even as a 2000s kid, he's still my favourite Doctor!
A Hartnell box set would be absolutely lovely! 👊🤟 Which of his seasons would you prefer?
@@jarnopp Season 3 is my absolute favourite, but I don't think there is any real chance of getting that one soon and I don't think reconstructions would be a popular selling point 😞. But season 2 is also fantastic! There are some brilliant stories; Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Romans, The Crusade, The Time Meddler - and stories like the Planet of Giants and The Rescue are still very solid. It's only The Web Planet and The Chase that are weaker in my opinion.
These boxsets often give the chance to appreciate unloved seasons - like Season 24 - so I'd love fans to see the real 1st Doctor. I think a lot of people have probably only seen an Unearthly Child pt1 and The Daleks, and take the 1st Doctor to be just an old, grumpy figure - and I don't think Twice Upon a Time helped with that. But, to me, he is everything the Doctor should be and is one of the most caring, mischievous, funny and charming portrayals we've seen.
Strongest 80s season? Do 25 and 26 not count as 80s seasons anymore? Those are the beast seasons since Tom's third.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork 25 and 26 are brilliant too, and I think most people would agree with you there! But season 22 just pips them in my opinion - and I am fully aware that is not an opinion shared by many 🤣
I think they would have been okay putting the full version of Fix With Sontarans as an optional extra. I did a video where I look through an old Jim'll Fix It Annual, and I thought I would get complaints but instead it's the most viewed video on my channel somehow. Obviously I made sure to give plenty of warning before showing any images of Savile so anyone who might be triggered can switch off, so they would have had to do something similar. But I guess I can't blame them for erring on the side of caution.

Excellent unboxing, Jason! This season is one of my all time favourites. I remember watching reruns on UKGOLD back in the 90’s. I’d get up at 6am ready to record each story on VHS. Great memories.

I’m usually an absolute stickler for authenticity but I will make an exception for Jimmy Savile. Firstly, it’s only a little sketch and it has no impact on anything. Secondly, the complete version will always exist on the internet and the original Two Doctors DVD, should anyone want it. I think we’re lucky it’s included at all and they’ve handled the re-edit very well.
I couldn’t abide Savile anyway, even whilst he was alive so this new version is a “win-win” for me.

I assume that the Saville content has also been excised from The Colin Baker Years which is listed as an extra on this set. On the VHS tape all that represented A Fix with Sontarans was Saville reading the letter and the badge giving 'ceremony' as Eric Saward would not allow the BBC (or was it just JNT who produced the tape?) to use any clips from his stories at that time. There were no clips from Revelation for the same reason.

Great video. Hopefully mine will be here soon. Wish they'd release a Sixties season though - s2 is almost complete. I think s1 will be released next year in time for the 60th anniversary. Hopefully, there'll be at least one more release this year. I'd like to see s2, s6 or s7 next. It's rumoured s20 will be out next year too.

Good review - an excellent box set which I have had on order for moths. Glad to say that it has arrived safely and looks great. Shame that the 4K of Dr Who and the Daleks 4K from Zavvi has not arrived yet despite my having had on order from first day it was announced.
Looking forward t seeing Saxon 22 which some criminally under appreciated stories. Look forward to next set.

They should have remade it and called it "A Fix with Jimmy" with the sontarans handing out medallions at the end. To quote Colin, "Jimmy Savile is much more frightening than the sontarans...much more...I'll leave it at that". (and that was nearly 20 years ago)

Mine just arrived too. Highly underrated era, but even as a fan it won't stop me from pointing out some of it's problems.
Loved the box art, as always. 22's is one of the best.
Some stories got extended with carefully cleaned vhs edits. Mark of the Rani sadly wasn't, but the set is still and definitely well beyond most shows' home release quality to begin with.
Timelash looks great and, despite its flaws, is largely enjoyable.
Nicola Bryant talks to Matthew Sweet is a MUST SEE.
Revelation had the original music put back! But they didn't restore the complete "I'll take you to Blackpool" line. 😪
And, of course, Behind the Sofas are must-sees. Janet Fielding and Colin Baker rule. 😍
Oh, sadly none of the 16mm film recordings exist. Okay, it'd been said a private collector may have The Two Doctors and refused to release the films, but none of the other episodes' film inserts exist. As usual, The Mark of the Rani is left out the most.
Great set! Behind the sofa is great this time! Colin, Nicola and Terry Maloy were make each other laugh a lot watching the stories. They finally did a commentary with Colin for Revalation of the Daleks, the moderater is annoying at times though

You are so lucky. We're not getting this in the US until the end of October, which means this year will have had only TWO Doctor Who BD releases for us. That's quite lame. I hope they make up for it next year with at least 4 sets.
That’s always a shame, the delay between the UK and US releases. Have you been tempted to import the UK sets?
Nah, at this point it would be too much of a hassle and I'd lose the uniformity of the sets. Even if I wanted to start over with the UK sets I couldn't due to half of the initial releases being out of print.
Bit of a late comment I know, but it looks like Colin Baker paid a high price to film the documentary on season 22 locations. He's been fined over £600 and lost his driving licence due to doing twice the speed limit last November when he accidentally lost the BBC crew he was tailing on the way to Telford and Ironbridge.

Season 24 took longer to release after announcement. S22 is the second longest wait. :)
Oh wow, that's weird - I can't remember such a long wait before. And I've totally forgotten when S24 came out - was the delay caused by the pandemic, then?
@@jarnopp Weirdly it took 24 weeks from announcement to release. But this one came close to beating that. Seems like the 80s sets are getting longer lead times overall.
Personally I would have used the Rani's TARDIS interior in the inlay.

How did you get it earlier than june the 20th? This is one of my least favorire seasons but i still cant wait to get this and re watch the whole lot! Had to stop the video cus i realised i don't wanna spoil what the inside tardis picture looks like. I always like guessing what will be in the tardis console room on these box sets. Season 21 will defo have the malus clinging to the wall and maybe even kamelion/howard at the controls haha

Big Finish did a couple of Rani audios with Siobhan Redmond (who was very good) before Moffat told them they couldn’t use her anymore. Possibly because it was around the time that Missy was introduced so another evil female Time Lord would have muddied the waters somewhat, but that’s just my theory.

doctor who was getting a lot of bad press during Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy's time on the series because it did Go on a 18 month hiatus which did later cause the series' cancellation 4 years and it also going up against coronation street.

I'm confused where is the twin dilemma go because ain't that a Colin Baker story. Also the original idea for season 23 wasn't going to be trial the Time Lord instead one was called the nightmare Fair it was going to be the return of the celestial toymaker.
Also I do think the next season set should be a Peter Davidson one and they really should do the Doctor who TV movie that one it's quick and simple.

The 6th Doctor was the doctor I grew up with as a child. Still think he's great, grumpy, sarcastic and not scared of defending himself and a pinch of genocide 🤣🤣🤣. The Art cover is beautiful wouldn't mind that as a canvas or framed poster. Timelash read better as a Target Novel but it's not my fav story The Borad was a cool looking villain - Shame he couldn't of got a slightly better story.

Personally, I think the entirety of 'A Fix with Sontarons' should have been on the boxset. Partially for completionism but also because I think ignoring the fact tat Jimmy Saville existed does not solve any thing. I think that omitting these horrible figures from our history is not a tangible solution as it ignores the problems with letting a maniac like Saville get away with what he did for years and ignoring the problem doesn't solve it. I think that the entire featurette should have been included with a short notice as the start with a trigger warning and possibly a brief mention of who Jimmy Saville was and the terrible person that lurked in the shadows. In a way, I think the fact that the BBC themselves are choosing to remove Saville from their legacy is irresponsible, especially as many of the BBC higher-ups were aware of what Saville was and what he did. I know some will make the argument that including an episode of his TV show would promote him and that the same case is made for people like Victor Salva. I can understand the Victor Salva case more as the continual distribution of his films continues to promote his work, howver I don't think anyone is buying season 22 for the Jim'll fix it feature alone and I doubt anyone is buying it to promote Jimmy Saville in anyway. Anyway that's just my opinion on the matter, I'm exicted to see what season is announced next. I personally think it will be season 11/9 or season 15/16.

FIX is an embarrassing piece of WHO ephemera. Up there with that horrific DISTRESS music video. I don't have a problem with it being cut short.
The extended edit for Part One of THE TWO DOCTORS is the real gold in this set (for me) - and experiencing a remastered ATTACK - with 5.1 audio.
It sucks that nothing exists for ATTACK in the way of deleted scenes, studio / location footage, and bloopers. Bummer.
I would like to know why there's no extended cut for MARK Part One in this set? There's plenty of deleted material to work with (from Part One). The material is time coded, but, I don't think that's the issue (e.g. GHOST LIGHT workprint)?
