In this video I'll be sharing a low-down of what I do for work: credit risk modelling. I have a background in mathematics, specifically statistics, and I currently lead a team to develop quantitative models to measure credit risk at a bank. I'll discuss how to get into credit risk modeling and share the career path/compensation levels.

Hi Laura, feels like waiting for this video for years! Very informative, love it!! For people who would like to get into credit risk would definitely benefit from this video~i like how you highlighted your key concept in banners
Hi Tina, haha thanks for watching and I should have made this earlier. 🤣 Glad to hear you found in informative!
Hey Laura! Very informative and succinct coverage of credit risk. I would definitely love to see more videos and learn. Probably you can share some insights on the data sources used by the bank for analyzing customers like the credit bureaus, repayment pattern, bank and financial statements, etc. Keep up the good work.
Hi Mayank, thanks for watching and for your suggestions! I will plan out a second video that goes further into the data and methodology. Stay tuned!
Could you please shed some light on the application, relevance and importance of quantitative finance in credit risk model validation roles on the job(especially for a non quant candidate like me)??..
Some more videos about credit modeling please. This videos are great
Aspiring data scientist here....found your channel from V Life Journal. Great info. Please talk more about the tools you use on a daily basis for you job dev tools/reporting tools/knowledge bases etc.. Thanks.
I'm interested in learning more about it. I'm currently in the interviewing process for a job doing credit risk modelling. My degree is general economics with regional economics & mathematical economics as my concentrations. I mostly did government work, consulting & contracting on construction, security, disaster & transportation projects; but recently applied to several commercial banks with two responding back so far. The statistics & econometrics I understand but using programs such as sql & python to develop models is something I haven't done before. Prior work I used microsoft office, spss, sas, stata, & planswift. I've done some computer science courses & had to learn java, visual basics, & c but I've never had to really use these skills.
Great content. What other quantitative roles can you take up in the financial industry? Market risk, Operational risk, Liquidity risk? Can you shade some light on that maybe from your co-workers or friends in different spaces like that
Hey Laura, what are the math and stats topics that i need to learn well before working on Credit risk model development/validation?
Thanks again for the video!
Hey Laura , things are hard right now but I'll keep pushing
Keep it up, you can do it! There are opportunities in the market!
Hey Laura, thanks for the informative video ❤
I am a fresh graduate out of business school, and sitting for cfa level 1 exam in 3 months.
I have no prior experience in programming languages and coding, what should I do to get into this field??
Hi Laura, I will be starting a job in a bank supporting the credit risk modelling team as a change professional. Have you had such support in your career? And if so, what has been its value in your experience? Thanks!
Hi Laura! thank you for such an informative video. I have one question if you can answer. I am pursuing a bachelor's in Statistics from one of the top universities in Canada. Do I need to have a masters in statistics to land a job in credit risk modelling.
Thank you so much for your time. Please continue making such useful videos.
Hi Samir, thanks for watching! My recommendation is that if you do not have a Master’s degree, try to get some co-op experience in banks in analytics areas and build your network. A Master’s degree is not 100% necessary but if two applicants have similar experiences and one has a Master’s and the other doesn’t, then the hiring manager may prefer the candidate with the Master’s degree.
@@CareerChatswithLaura thank you so much for your reply.
Hey Laura when it comes to coding do I need a degree or can I do certifications online and which certifications will be best ?
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy my videos. 😊 When it comes to coding, a degree is not necessary but you will need to demonstrate that you can code well enough to manipulate data frames (for example, using SQL, pandas in Python, or data.table in r). The technical part of the interview could have some data manipulation questions. I suggest looking for online tutorials and practice questions on manipulating/summarizing tabular data. I used datacamp at one point but now there are many options out there.
You are literally the best thank you so much
Hey Laura ! I am still rewatching ! I appreciate your videos !
