You are so right about retirement. We are newbies only 2 years but there is no stress. This morning we woke up, had a leasurely breakfast and went for a walk, to actually smell the flowers, listen to the birds, watch the bees pollinating the flowers, it was so wonderful. I have never been so stress free in my life. Every day is a new adventure, we can sleep in or not, go out or not, exercise or not. My 30 year old son says I'm not going to live like you, work, work, work and then retire. I'm going to enjoy life for the now. Maybe he isn't wrong. We are also looking for new things to learn, I took up knitting, my husband is re-learning algebra all over again. The library is a weekly visit, Ikea for lunch is always fun and now you can drop off old batteries and lights while you are there. So much to do in retirement. My husband has Parkinsons so you have to live in the moment but I wish when we were young we did more living in the moment.
It is lovely Sandi being able to just do things when you want to with no schedule thanks for a nice comment we hope you both are having a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Yeah, I sure did enjoy life as a young person. Had lots of fun, partied, traveled all over the world. Now that I'm older, I am retired but still work another job full time. I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel like I'm too old to do certain things (like dating, UGH) although I am in great health. I work cause I live for my grandkids so hopefully their lives will be even better than my own.
My Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's at 72. He took Levodopa, saw a Movement Disorders specialist, but I also got him to a Tibetan doctor because I knew that Tibetan medicine can slow the progression. Dad took it (along with his Levodopa) for 18 years, and his Parkinson's barely progressed.
Shopping during the week is much less crowded. Walking is great exercise. I like pickleball too. We spend much less and money is not a problem in retirement. We like to play cards with our kids and neighbors too. We can't believe how fast time flies. My wife plays Wordle. I learn a lot from YT from home repair, car repair, politics, fitness. We have an air fryer with 2 separate compartments. We also use our Insta-pot a lot too.
My wife and i are a few years away from retirement after raising 5 children and i am excited to reach that goal. I told my wife i love her but i also miss my girlfriend (her as well:).. retirement will allow us to return in a way to our early years and cultivate a new path long overgrown by the weeds of necessity. Love your videos.. new sub here
Procrastination is wonderful; that’s what I keep telling my wife. Keeping your brain and body active in retirement is the key to a long life. Both of you deserve a wonderful life.
You two are so adorable and I love listening to you talk about retirement! As a single person, I think it's important to find ways to be around others now that you no longer have your "work" friends or interactions. Not so much to make new friends though that's good too, but to be part of a community whether it's attending a lecture, going to church, visiting a museum/cultural event or just going to the market. Striking up a conversation with someone you don't know can really brighten each day.
I have been retired a little over the year and find that the reduced stress makes me a nicer person. I was a bit crabby in my high pressure job and didn’t realize that I was hard to live with. My husband appreciates a happier me and we are like newlyweds again. Thanks for your channel. I look forward to your videos.
Just enjoy watching and hearing about your experiences. Definitely tomorrow is not guaranteed. My brother went to the doctor in April because of lower back pain. He was admitted to the hospital and found out he had 4B Liver Cancer and was given two weeks to live. He died 1 week later. 61 and just like that, it's over. Enjoy your life folks. Try new things, experience life to the fullest. Great video guys!
God bless you both, Tina and Norm! You are like a breath of fresh air, every time I listen to you. I am a few years away from retirement myself, and appreciate the warmth and encouragement you so generously give out as the underlying theme in all your conversations. May you have many, many more years of happiness together!
My wife and I just retired 12 days ago and it’s a big chapter in our lives. Your videos are quite inspiring and quite informative. Keep up the great work!!! Cheers and till the next video
To keep her brain alert my mom read two books at the same time one in the living room and one in the bedroom so that she had to keep characters and plots sorted out. And she was with it right till the end at 93
You bring smiles here. Thank you for posting your practical retirement experiences and lessons learned. Retired now 25 years and love the little stress, no work work worries. Yes, love being out doing chores when traffic is less and patrons few. You two are precious!
Two 2 yrs left to 65. Fully understand what she felt , sure part of the symptoms of all the stresses. I often feel very restless first week for 4 weeks vacation. Money is for most people cause more stresses before retirement as for me too and what to do then, kids have their own life no extended family. Good Luck for more many years to come. TY for the reflection ,sharing thoughts and experience.
I have been retired approximately 1 month. Loved hearing your input. You are right! Stress drops away! Thank you for your information. Yes, keeping active and curious is key. Not bored at all. Love it. The best decision of my life! The first week was hard for me to release my " busy life." Every day just keeps getting better and better....
You two are an inspiration for my wife and me. We are in our 30s, and hope to retire in out early fifties. You are both so down to earth, and willing to share your story, and how you planned for your retirement. Thanks!
Boy, the knot in the stomach and the stress is something I remember. And the headaches. The only night I got a good night's sleep was Friday night. I retired 4.5 years ago here in the US at 57 and I wish I had made the leap at 55 like I had wanted to. If there is any way to do it, do it.
People have no idea of the Stress ! until they retire and no longer have it , life is too short we agree retire as soon as you can ( your health will probably improve) Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🙂
Really enjoy every video. Retirement is on the horizon for my wife and myself and you have taken some of the unknowns out of the mix. I am grateful that you share your experiences.
Hi Tina and Norm. I follow you for quite a while now and just happened to watch this video AGAIN!!! Well, what Tina said about getting in the work mood on Sundays, headaches and backaches is exactly what I experience since about a year or so. My doc already asked me if I can afford to retire ( I just turned 60 this year). Well, the numbers don't add up yet, but by my figures, I should be able to leave the workforce in about 3 years. However, what I wanted to get at was the fact, that all my aches and pains (even severe digestive issues at times) are driven by the stress from having to perform and being in this work cycle. I can't wait for the day when I can say "I am in retirement". Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos .... keep going and keep enjoying your retirement!!!!
Thanks for watching even though you say your numbers don’t add up to retire perhaps look 👀 again , your health is suffering from you still working if you retire your costs will probably go down so see if you can make it work . 3 years is such a long time we hope you can make it work , it is so different when you don’t work Cheers ☕️🙂🍷
About rushing…. I distinctly notice how much more relaxed I am driving.. And I also notice the cars that weave in and out of traffic in their felt urgency to get just a little ahead
On that note we all seem to get to that red traffic light 🚦 together despite the weaving , rushing and overtaking you and not to mention the cost of the gas ⛽️ LOL 😂 enjoy your weekend Ardy Cheers 🌺🍷🍺
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍…no more planning. You both look great!! Thank you again for sharing your joy and your insights with us. What sets you both apart from others (especially the financial planners gurus) is that you speak plainly. Life is very simple, and our work is to avoid complicating it with our thoughts and with any unnecessary behavior. I particularly liked that you used the word ‘joyful’, as this is our natural state as human beings. Thank you for being genuine people and for avoiding turning into a product of mass-media “speak” where people just repeat what others have said. Thank you for communicating honestly your human experience including your thoughts and your feelings. Wishing you both a peaceful and fun weekend 🎊🎉🎈😊.
Thank you Dean for a wonderful comment we are just an ordinary couple sharing what we have learn in the hope it might help others in their retirement. We hope you have a wonderful weekend too Cheers 🍷🌺🙂🍺
Important not to dwell on our eventual fate. In my case, I was diagnosed with an incurable, rare lung disease (no known cause) 4 years ago. I am now in the "living on borrowed time" phase. I am at peace with my fate. All our affairs are in order so there will be no fuss or muss for my family when I depart. I just live for today. I have taken the bright path vs a dark path. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to work in the garden or do minor household chores. That is a bummer but I keep a smile and soldier on. Booooooooooooooo to the New Blue Party! :-)
We are very sorry to hear about your health, we are pleased you have taken the bright path it will help those around you, thanks for sharing this with us Peter. ❤️🌺🤗
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you. No worries. We made a concerted effort over the years to travel with our daughters as often as possible. That included a trip around the world in 1992. So I have had a great life. As of this past January, I am no longer able to travel. You hear so many stories of people waiting to enjoy their retirement years and then boom they experience a health issue. In my case, we did not leave the "fun" until we retired. A smart decision on our part.
Good to hear about the no stress. I retired because my doctor told me I had to have zero stress (I worked in a stress factory). So though I wasn't quite ready, I am working on getting my health back so I can have fun again! Slowly, but surely! To avoid stressing about money, I have handed over the financial chore to a fiduciary. I interviewed and researched several before choosing the one I have. That might be a little hard, as I managed my own money the last 12 years and grew it from 0 to 400k. yeah, probably not enough, but I am frugal and owe nothing. Though most chores are always for tomorrow (lol), I endeavor to learn something new everyday. It's fun! Thank you two, for always telling us the truth! Congrats on your subscribers!
Almost 8 years of retirement so far for me. The stress drop was evident immediately as I had a high stress job running global projects and lots of international travel. I now exercise more and eat better and lost weight so I feel healthier than I was even 15 years ago. And one of my favorite parts you mentioned is being able to go to the stores/etc. during the weekdays when there are no crowds and less traffic. Many don't think about that, but it is wonderful. When I was a young man working at a large company I saw many colleagues pass away over the years. I developed a theory that every year you worked past age 50 in a high stress job took a year off of your life based on watching others. The retirees who lived in their 80s or later all seemed to have retired in their early to mid fifties while the ones who stayed until their mid 60s often passed away a few years later. So I planned and saved to allow me to to retire at 56 all of my career, and I hit that target. My wife retired at 54, about a year later than I did. If you have the money saved and things planned to keep you busy, we'd highly recommend retiring as early as possible. Best of luck to all on your retirement journeys.
Hi Norm and Tina. 👋. I want to compliment and thank both of you for having such an enjoyable, positive, entertaining and educational channel. I can relate to so many of your observations. I love going grocery shopping in the early morning as I can shop leisurely and avoid the crowds. Having the time to buy healthy foods and not having to "pop" a prepared meal in the microwave is such a good feeling knowing that you are treating your body the way you should be treating it. Learning something new every day is a great way to stay alert and aware of our world. I laughed when you were talking about the "Sunday afternoon blues". Tina, I used to get a feeling of a black cloud descending upon me when I realized that, "oh no, it's back to work tomorrow". 😢. There is nothing wrong in celebrating each new day that we have been given and knowing that new experiences and possibly new friends await us. Norm, you are correct in saying, " we worked and earned this time in our lives". I believe it is very essential that we try to do some random act of kindness to someone every day. It can just be as simple as a friendly greeting to a passerby or offering to help someone with their bags. We can never know that by such an unselfish act we brightened a person's day when they truly needed it. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week 😊.
It's true that while you are working that you may feel like everything is for the future and you might feel like you missed the moments that happened today. But now that I am retiring in two days, I don't regret those times. I'm grateful for everything I went through because I learned new things. I learned that regretting things from the past doesn't change them. Be your best from this moment on and be happy.
Having almost 7 years until retirement (retiring at age 67 hopefully) my wife and I are trying to travel now and enjoying it just in case we physically can’t when we’re older. Love your videos Tina and Norm. Thank you
Sounds like a great plan Mike , although just maybe 🤔 think that 7 years is a long time and maybe look at if you can retire earlier might be an idea for you to both to travel together while you have the health .Have a great weekend Cheers 🌺🍷🙂🍺
We are just ending our 16th year of retirement and concur with you on all of the points! After catching up on our sleep during the first 6 months of retirement, we discovered all the money we have is all the money we need! Our trial run of 2 years of living on what was calculated to be our retirement income BEFORE actually retiring, gave us the confidence to proceed on with our retirement. The “cost of living” raises also help to keep us financially secure. After 10 years of living near the beach, we decided to move to the largest 55+ community in the world with over 3,000 clubs and activities of all sorts to keep us mentally, physically and socially well! It’s the best part of our life for sure retirement is!
Hi Pat, happy to hear your retirement is going well. I have been retired almost a year now and my hubby going on 3 yrs. Where is the 55+ community you've come upon if you don't mind my asking? My husband and I have been looking but not many around here in Texas and the ones that are ....are very small. Thanks Ruth
You two are such an inspiration! The love and gratitude you have for each other, your family and your life shines through you. My favorite childhood books, the Anne books and Little House books, emphasized the pleasures of the simple things and the importance of spending time with the people you love. I plan to reread them all when I retire. Stay healthy and keep enjoying every day!
Spending life planning for the future isn't living as we are meant to. Certainly plan, but dont make plans your master. Certainly utilize delayed gratification by making it a habit of self discipline. But it's not what life is about. Don't forget to take your time out with your family if you have one, but take some time for yourself too like nurturing friends and hobbies. The years go by quickly so watch your weight and eat correctly so that you also manage that. Contentment increases with age. It's a fact. So you can be assured that you will be happy in retirement, with the right formula. And it's not all about "money". There are plenty of people retired out there who are extremely content living on a tiny income.
You are so lucky - we don’t get our state pension until we are 67!! We do intend to retire from our jobs at 60 as we have private pensions and other investments which will keep us going till the state pension. We , like you think it’s time to enjoy a simple life without stresses of work, and who knows what we will do
The wife and I love your vids. On your last video, you both mentioned how much you like Folgers coffee. We are both coffee lovers. Can’t start our day without it. We have grown accustomed to gourmet blends from a local roaster. Well we bought a tub of Folgers Original coffee. We love it. Very rich brew, no bitter taste what so ever. And smells so good when brewing. Thanks Teen & Norm. California residents here Nick & Linda
That is awesome! we are glad you are enjoying Folgers coffee ☕️ we used to buy Gourmet coffee beans and grind them but now we prefer Folgers and we set it automatically to come on and we wake up to the aroma of fresh coffee . Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🌺🇨🇦
Hi Tina and Norm, We have been watching and are new subscribers. Thanks for the inspiration that you provide. Have a wonderful day Alan and Leslie It'll Be Fun
Been on the road travelling from Rural NS to Red Deer Alberta to our oldest son wedding. Early morning in Regina Sask and watching the Norm and Tina retirement show at 630 am. What a trip. $$$$ gas, food and lodging is about 3 times what it was 3 years ago. Times are changing. We so agree with your approaches, so much we have in common with your take on life's joys. Keep up the down to earth program. Your "Joie De Vive" keeps us coming back.
You are so kind with your comment, it’s comments like yours that keeps us going, it is very appreciated. Have a great time at the wedding, you are right travel related costs have gone through the roof!
Thanks Norm and Tuna. Another great video. You both have a great attitude, and really seem like you are a awesome team. One simple thing I love about retirement is having to wonder what day it is. Any day or days can be our weekend
You've also created a new project, even business, with this inspring channel. A good example of retirement not necessarily meaning not working if that's what you want to do. Well done you both.
Congrats for your increased number of subscribers and your stress free lifestyle. I have been in long service leave for2 1/2 months and love the gentleman of leisure lifestyle, I am not going back to work. Retirement rocks.
"Living in the now" is a good way of saying it. We retired in 2015 and what I often say is: "When you are retired the future you were saving for is now". I say that especially to those that have trouble actually spending their retirement savings, think that's all of us. And yes, in retirement, money usually is the least of your problems. Currently in Spain for a couple of weeks and watching this on the high speed Madrid to Seville train (300 km/h! Wish we had that in Canada). Keep up the informative videos.
I am so glad to hear all the good news that retirement is going well, fun and stress free. Next Thursday is the last day on my job. Of course I have been planning and thinking al ot about what I would do, how I would manage, finances etc. I am relieved to hear your good report. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wordle! I play it too. Keeps the little grey cells working. I have a friendly competition going with my older brother. He’s currently dealing with a very serious ailment called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). I live in Vancouver and Steve lives in a small community called Chase. Because of his IPF, he’s on oxygen all the time and is actually due for a lung transplant. He can’t do very much physically, but Wordle is something we do each morning and then share our results. His condition is also a grim reminder that good health is not guaranteed and that we should enjoy and appreciate it if we are fortunate enough to have it.
I'm really glad you're retirement has been so successful and peaceful. Mine has been a disaster with stress levels though the roof. For example, recently neighbours from hell moved next door- dogs barking at half past midnight, banging and crashing noises at 5.30am. And this week I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. The worst of all was when my mother suffered a catastrophic stroke in 2010 and I had to battle with a "care" home for 5 years to get her proper care.
Hi TinaNorm...TN....Congrats. I put off retirement for many reasons..finance/Covid and now unsettled world situation...just want to say when mentioned stromboli I thought you meant the volcano in sicily....my beloved island....wish you both well...nice video.
In my ninth year of retirement. Just bought a kayak today for adventures on stillwater. Less than a month away from publishing my first book. Agree that the stress leaves and the nutrition gets better. Wife and I will be heading to Montana next month for 10 days of fly-fishing.
Once again. Great video guys. You definitely help put retirement into perspective. We love your real world examples. Always counting down the days to Saturday to view your videos!
You two are the best UA-camrs, wife retired last year and I’m following her lead this fall. Positive stories about retirement help with those nervous transitions, I appreciate your information and attitude. Thank you.
Led Zeppelin! My favorite band ever. BTW, the biggest issue in the USA with retirement is health insurance. Health insurance on the private market today costs much more per month than the average monthly house payment. And even with reasonably good health insurance, there are loopholes where the insurance companies can deny coverage. This denial of coverage can sometimes leave an unexpected health bill for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, in the case of an emergency room visit or a serious illness like cancer.
We do understand that healthcare in the USA 🇺🇸 is to us totally frightening 😱 not only what we hear as monthly costs but that people can go bankrupt over a serious illness. You might really be interested in our video next Saturday where we talk about this .Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🌺🙂
Jgmatp: Yes! And I just heard a report today that Biden has approved the largest hike in Medicare Premiums EVER, with profits, of course, funneled to the private insurance companies. Cuz, ya know, they didn't profit enough during the last 2.5 years of economic destruction to broad swaths of U.S. smaller businesses and individuals. All while we are facing a real recession, prices are rising (inexplicably) on food and everything else, no end in sight to the gas price hikes, interest rates are rising steadily, etc., etc., etc. There are millions of U.S. senior citizens, including me, who can't actually relax and enjoy this phase of life, due to insufficient funds to cover all these rising costs and the uncertainty over everything else. I don't mean to throw a wet blanket on this topic of enjoying retirement. I just wanted to add to your mention of the U.S. health care costs and the very real threat they continue to impose on millions of people -- and it is all so wrong, so inhumane, and so unnecessary. P.S. I, too, still love Led Zeppelin's music!
You two are such a treat! 🥰 I always smile when I watch your videos. I think it would be fun if you could do a "Day in the life" video at your apartment and then one for when you're at your trailer if you feel like that would be fun for you to film. I always enjoy those types of videos and watch them from people all over the world. Fascinating stuff - and it gives me some good ideas of new things to try. I'm not retired yet but will be in a couple of years so I'm looking forward to the stress-free life.
Stay curious, Continue to learn, Stay intellectually challenged, Experiment with healthy foods, Exercise but respect your physical limits, Long vacations, Maintain perspective - you'v earned retirement, Your partner is your best friend, respect and enjoy the companionship, Live in the now. Those are the chapter titles in the "Big Book" of a satisfying, long, healthy, retirement. Well done!
We retired 6 years ago- and how we spend our time has of course changed during that time. Initially I did ‘good works’ but gradually realised it was too similar to working but unpaid! I switched my volunteering to fun activities unfamiliar to me and where I could learn new things. So now I volunteer at a Toy Museum….❤ Other changes are eating out- we no longer do this as much it was fun to start with…. but we were overspending ’treating ourselves’ a bit too much!
Many thanks for your video. I agree with everything you have said. We have found the same. In the UK everything seems to have gone completely to pieces over the last six years. It is easy to sink into depression and negative thinking. When you were at work it was easier to take your mind off things because you interacted with a lot of different people. So I think it is important in retirement to focus on doing things and connecting with people.
Thank you for the video! You guys make a great couple, the smiles just beam on Tina.. Would you guys consider showing us a photo when you guys were younger? I think that would be neat. Take care and keep up the positive attitudes!
I think the biggest surprise (or dare I say it, shock) for me was that I don't have any financial stress. My husband has been retired for 7 years too, but I've only been retired a year. My husband repeatedly told me that we would have enough money but it was hard to believe. Recently I went back to work for nine weeks and that was stress-free as well. Since I knew it was short term, I had such fun while I was working. The added bonus was the financial windfall which we are using to take our first cruise (Panama canal in December).
That’s wonderful we have done a Panama 🇵🇦 cruise 🚢 it was wonderful we went from Fort Launderdale through the Canal and finished in Vancouver fantastic trip we hope you enjoy your cruise. Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺😎
Oh how you hit the nail right on the head about being retired. Love doing all our fun stuff during the week. Leave the weekends for the working class. Poor souls. LOL
Hi guys. I'm one of your recent wave of subscribers and have been watching you for about 2 months now. I'm a little over two years away from retirement and have truly enjoyed listening to your guidance and advice. I'm also very interested in spending my winters in the Algarve and your videos on that topic have been excelllent as well. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share your insights in such a humble and informative manner. May you both continue to enjoy your retirement for MANY years to come! Take Care.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Forgot to mention - My wife and I compete on "Quordle" - same as Wordle but 4 words at a time - lot's of fun, give it a shot too. Take Care!
Hi Tina & Norm, I love watching your videos, I'm 59, 60 in October, I work for Royal Mail in the UK I'm taking my pension in October, I've been taking many notes from your videos as retirement looms for my wife and I, thank you, I've found your videos very imformative, we're thinking either moving to the UK coast, Cornwall, Bournemouth, or somewhere warm in Europe. We're definitely looking forward to travelling with not having to book leave off at work, we've put our two children through university they've both flown the nest, we see it as our time now, we've been together a long time like you both have, best friends too, if we ever visit Canada we'll definitely take you both out to dinner, lots of love and hugs, stay safe, Paul xxx
Hello Tina and Norm. It’s nice to see and hear from you again. You both are such an inspiration specially to people who are looking forward to have an early retirement. If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you retired. I’m now 53 and my husband is 55. And we’re planning to retire next year hopefully, God willing. And just like Tina said, I also have this doubts and worries if our savings are enough. But you know what? My husband and I also believe in this saying “live for today as tomorrow is never promised “. 🥰 God bless you both and all your followers!
Thanks for watching when we took early retirement Norm was 60 and Tina was 58 , and wow that was 7 years ago 😱we are loving being retired have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you for your timely reply. 7 years… wow! How time flies. But I’m so happy seeing you both enjoying your retirement and time with each other. By the way, you mentioned that there’s more or other government benefits you received. May I ask what are those pls. If you don’t mind me asking. And when did you receive it? Thank you again.
Sometimes Barbara things like economy are just not worth getting stressed about ,we have lived through huge interest rates of around 20% , houses going up and going down when we sold😱but life moves on through ups and downs . Cheers 🌺🙂🌺
Another great after breakfast game is Worldle - a geography quiz. My husband and I do this together every morning. Yes, retirement is a great time of life.
Love, love, love your vlogs! I am learning so much from you - definitely going to try cooking the Stromboli. You both look so fit and healthy + have such a positive outlook that it inspires me and lots of other people too. Thank you and keep on posting 🎥
I love your show and I am watching it faithfully every Saturday morning. I have the good fortune of living in a place (North County San Diego) that you enjoy traveling to on your winter breaks. I particularly enjoyed your morning report today from Orange Beach, Alabama. As a huge Jimmy Buffet fan, I would explore the places that he sings and writes about in his songs and novels. He grew up very near to where you are staying. Just Wikipedia him and find the Jimmy Buffet Gulf Coast “trail”!
Hi Tina & Norm you deserve the following you have great practical advice and I’m pleased you are having a good retirement. All the best Christopher Barker ps keep the great work up .😊
I absolutely enjoy your weekly video! Making the most of your valuable information as my wife and I prepare for our retirement in the Philippines/Canada.
Hello to you both. Well now how exciting the 7 year retirement itch🤣 You will be itching to get back to Portugal and can't blame you. We have been retired not quite three years and not looking back. This weather has been fab. Met a lovely couple in Tilsonburg yesterday...Great little town if you haven't had a visit there please do. Enjoy your trailer. Cheers Fay and Danny x
Hi Fay and Danny yes we know Tilsonburg there is a wonderful Thai restaurant there we used to go with friends for Pad Thai before Covid , we have picked up takeout a few times too . Yes we can’t wait to get back to Portugal 🇵🇹 it’s been too long guess you must be looking forward to your Panama 🇵🇦 Cruise 🚢. Enjoy your weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂🍺
Hi Tina and Norm, Greetings from Southern California The Land of Fruit and Nuts! We watch you every Saturday morning while having breakfast and always enjoy your videos. We are both planning on retiring later this year and this video has really helped us with many of the things you discussed. Thank you for all the valuable insights. M&M
I used to work retail and one of the pluses and minuses was having weekdays off ( non weekends off is hard to schedule family or festival type visits) . It's easier to get your car worked on midweek, less people at the zoo/museums and always less people at the grocery store at 7AM on a weekday than 4 PM on the week end shopping days..

@@minoozolala Wow that is so interesting thank you for sharing hopefully Sandi will look into this Cheers 🌺
Beautiful. Cheers
Thanks for sharing Don we love doing Wordle we play against each other having coffee ☕️ after breakfast, also love our Airfryer Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
👍👍✌️ The Sunday stress of back to work is a good point. Every morning I wake with a smile on my face.
My wife and i are a few years away from retirement after raising 5 children and i am excited to reach that goal. I told my wife i love her but i also miss my girlfriend (her as well:).. retirement will allow us to return in a way to our early years and cultivate a new path long overgrown by the weeds of necessity. Love your videos.. new sub here
That is awesome! Dwayne we wish you well in rekindling that passion that brought you together Cheers ☕️🙂🍁❤️
Procrastination is wonderful; that’s what I keep telling my wife.
Keeping your brain and body active in retirement is the key to a long life.
Both of you deserve a wonderful life.
Thanks so much Robert have a great week Cheers 🙂🍁☕️
You two are so adorable and I love listening to you talk about retirement! As a single person, I think it's important to find ways to be around others now that you no longer have your "work" friends or interactions. Not so much to make new friends though that's good too, but to be part of a community whether it's attending a lecture, going to church, visiting a museum/cultural event or just going to the market. Striking up a conversation with someone you don't know can really brighten each day.
Great comment Linda thanks for sharing you never know how just talking to a stranger might really brighten their day Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
I have been retired a little over the year and find that the reduced stress makes me a nicer person. I was a bit crabby in my high pressure job and didn’t realize that I was hard to live with. My husband appreciates a happier me and we are like newlyweds again. Thanks for your channel. I look forward to your videos.
That’s wonderful we are glad it’s all worked out for the best 🌺, hope you both have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🌺🍷🙂
We are so sorry for your loss, we want to be grateful and use each day to the fullest.
I am so sorry for your loss, and also, for your brother whose life was cut so short.
@@reefglider Thank You!
God bless you both, Tina and Norm! You are like a breath of fresh air, every time I listen to you. I am a few years away from retirement myself, and appreciate the warmth and encouragement you so generously give out as the underlying theme in all your conversations. May you have many, many more years of happiness together!
Bob thank you so much for such a wonderful comment, it means a lot to us.
My wife and I just retired 12 days ago and it’s a big chapter in our lives. Your videos are quite inspiring and quite informative. Keep up the great work!!! Cheers and till the next video
Thanks Pierre and congratulations on your retirement.
To keep her brain alert my mom read two books at the same time one in the living room and one in the bedroom so that she had to keep characters and plots sorted out. And she was with it right till the end at 93
An amazing story Joy thanks for sharing this!
You bring smiles here. Thank you for posting your practical retirement experiences and lessons learned. Retired now 25 years and love the little stress, no work work worries. Yes, love being out doing chores when traffic is less and patrons few. You two are precious!
Thanks Lyn for your kind words they are greatly appreciated.
Money was a stressor but we have learned to cope, living a stress free life is so much better
Wonderful! so glad Diane that retirement is working for you , we love it and it keeps getting better congrats 🥳 on your retirement Cheers 🌺🍷🙂
You two are an inspiration for my wife and me. We are in our 30s, and hope to retire in out early fifties. You are both so down to earth, and willing to share your story, and how you planned for your retirement. Thanks!
That is awesome Eric glad you find our videos helpful and that you enjoy watching them have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🌺🍷🙂
That is awesome! glad you find them helpful David have a nice weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂🍺
Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🥂
Important not to dwell on our eventual fate.
Thanks for a lovely comment have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thanks for your sharing your story David have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺🍺
Thanks for such a lovely comment John have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🙂🌺🍷
It's true that while you are working that you may feel like everything is for the future and you might feel like you missed the moments that happened today. But now that I am retiring in two days, I don't regret those times. I'm grateful for everything I went through because I learned new things. I learned that regretting things from the past doesn't change them. Be your best from this moment on and be happy.
Very true! congrats 🥳 on your retirement we wish you all the best Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I’m growing asparagus on my allotment,, it’s so good for you and long may your good health continue,, best wishes, Lisa
That’s great Lisa we hope you get a good crop!, we love asparagus.
I still live by the motto live for today plan for tomorrow, but I’ve only been semi -retired this April 2022
Sounds great Angel hope you get full retirement soon Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Having almost 7 years until retirement (retiring at age 67 hopefully) my wife and I are trying to travel now and enjoying it just in case we physically can’t when we’re older. Love your videos Tina and Norm. Thank you
Sounds like a great plan Mike , although just maybe 🤔 think that 7 years is a long time and maybe look at if you can retire earlier might be an idea for you to both to travel together while you have the health .Have a great weekend Cheers 🌺🍷🙂🍺
Hi Norm and Tina. Love your videos. We retired in 2009 and did part time work till 2013. Been fully retired since and enjoying it.
Love from Malaysia
That is awesome! thanks for watching we appreciate your support Cheers 🍷🌺🇵🇹
I love you guys, your fantastic people. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks so much Tom, we appreciate you watching our videos.
Sounds great Pat thanks for sharing have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🙂
Hi Pat, happy to hear your retirement is going well. I have been retired almost a year now and my hubby going on 3 yrs. Where is the 55+ community you've come upon if you don't mind my asking? My husband and I have been looking but not many around here in Texas and the ones that are ....are very small. Thanks Ruth
I assume it is The Villages in Florida.
Thanks for a lovely comment have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🙂🌺🍷
Great comment Pat and thanks for sharing this, more people need to hear it.
You are so lucky - we don’t get our state pension until we are 67!! We do intend to retire from our jobs at 60 as we have private pensions and other investments which will keep us going till the state pension. We , like you think it’s time to enjoy a simple life without stresses of work, and who knows what we will do
We both agree with you it was the same for us we were 58 and 60 and have never looked back , have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
You two make me happy just watching!
You are so kind Carolyn have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thanks!
Thank you so much 😀😀
The wife and I love your vids.

You two enjoy the ability to write your own ticket. Congratulations. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Hi Tina and Norm,
We have been watching and are new subscribers.
Thanks for the inspiration that you provide.
Have a wonderful day

It'll Be Fun
Thanks for watching and welcome to our channel Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
We often think what day is it 🤔as everyday is a great day Kris Cheers 🙂🌺🍷
You've also created a new project, even business, with this inspring channel. A good example of retirement not necessarily meaning not working if that's what you want to do. Well done you both.
Thanks DP, we never set out to do more than record memories for our future selves. We appreciate you kind comment.
So glad that you both are enjoying retirement. You make it look so good. Thanks
So far so good! Thanks so much for watching.
Congrats for your increased number of subscribers and your stress free lifestyle. I have been in long service leave for2 1/2 months and love the gentleman of leisure lifestyle, I am not going back to work. Retirement rocks.
Sounds great we wish you well have a great week Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
"Living in the now" is a good way of saying it. We retired in 2015 and what I often say is: "When you are retired the future you were saving for is now". I say that especially to those that have trouble actually spending their retirement savings, think that's all of us. And yes, in retirement, money usually is the least of your problems. Currently in Spain for a couple of weeks and watching this on the high speed Madrid to Seville train (300 km/h! Wish we had that in Canada). Keep up the informative videos.
We agree yes it is hard learning how to spend the money 💰 you worked hard to save for your retirement.Have a great time in Spain 🇪🇸 Cheers 🌺🇪🇸🇨🇦🙂
I am so glad to hear all the good news that retirement is going well, fun and stress free. Next Thursday is the last day on my job. Of course I have been planning and thinking al ot about what I would do, how I would manage, finances etc. I am relieved to hear your good report. Thank you so much for sharing.
Sounds great! congrats 🥳 on your retirement Linda we wish you all the best it’s the best thing we have done Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
You are such a lovely couple. Good content. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us all.
I love your videos. I find them very relaxing and reassuring. I'm 53 and trying to keep working until 60.
Wonderful! we were 58 and 60 when we took early retirement highly recommend it as soon as you can John Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thanks for sharing Doug we love doing Wordle have a great day Cheers 🙂🌺🍷
I'm really glad you're retirement has been so successful and peaceful. Mine has been a disaster with stress levels though the roof. For example, recently neighbours from hell moved next door- dogs barking at half past midnight, banging and crashing noises at 5.30am. And this week I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. The worst of all was when my mother suffered a catastrophic stroke in 2010 and I had to battle with a "care" home for 5 years to get her proper care.
We are so sorry to hear this.
Voxley, so sorry about the news. I hope you're doing ok. Sending Love and Strength.
@@chek6303 Thank you for your kind words.
We love going to places on off times as well! We eat a lot more at home also.
Sounds great hope we hope you are both keeping well have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🌺🙂

Glad you and Lindsay are enjoying life do you need a new mattress in Desmond 🤔LOL 😂have a great weekend Cheers 🌺🍷🙂
In my ninth year of retirement. Just bought a kayak today for adventures on stillwater. Less than a month away from publishing my first book. Agree that the stress leaves and the nutrition gets better. Wife and I will be heading to Montana next month for 10 days of fly-fishing.
You seem to have the right spirit and are being productive and active in retirement, a great example. Enjoy your kayak.
Thanks for sharing this refreshing video. Praise the Lord, I have been happily retired for ten years . It’s the best job ever.
You are so welcome! we agree retirement is the best job ever Carolyn Cheers 🍷🌺🙂

A refreshing , pleasant video. I really enjoy your vids and this topic. Thank you.!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts hope you have a nice Sunday 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🍺
Glad to hear you are both so happy in retirement. Looks good on both of you.
I love this chat I am a bit away from retirement but this sounds absolutely incredible
So glad you enjoyed it 🌺
Wow...thank you for sharing....please share more thoughts on this topic
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it Cheers 🍷😎🌺
You two are such a treat! 🥰 I always smile when I watch your videos. I think it would be fun if you could do a "Day in the life" video at your apartment and then one for when you're at your trailer if you feel like that would be fun for you to film. I always enjoy those types of videos and watch them from people all over the world. Fascinating stuff - and it gives me some good ideas of new things to try. I'm not retired yet but will be in a couple of years so I'm looking forward to the stress-free life.
We did do a day in our retirement life about 3 months ago take a look hope you like it have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
I have just made 10 years retirement. I so enjoy your videos!

Those are the chapter titles in the "Big Book" of a satisfying, long, healthy, retirement. Well done!
Thanks for putting it all into a great comment enjoy your weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂🍺
We retired 6 years ago- and how we spend our time has of course changed during that time. Initially I did ‘good works’ but gradually realised it was too similar to working but unpaid! I switched my volunteering to fun activities unfamiliar to me and where I could learn new things. So now I volunteer at a Toy Museum….❤
Other changes are eating out- we no longer do this as much it was fun to start with…. but we were overspending ’treating ourselves’ a bit too much!
Toy museum, sounds fun! We have found things similar to you, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
We agree Stephen it’s best to keep busy but doing all the things you want to do and when you want to do it Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🇨🇦🍺
Great comment Stephen thanks for watching.
Thanks for the update as usual.

Thank you for the video! You guys make a great couple, the smiles just beam on Tina.. Would you guys consider showing us a photo when you guys were younger? I think that would be neat. Take care and keep up the positive attitudes!

Awesome 7 years! Cannot wait till I am retired! Yes I want to make my life more simple with less responsibilities and less stress!
That’s great Ann thanks for watching.
Thank you Tina and Norm for your channel. You seem like a charming couple.

Sounds great Paul we wish you both a wonderful retirement 🥳 it really is the best job ever have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🇨🇦🍺

Thank you for your timely reply. 7 years… wow! How time flies. But I’m so happy seeing you both enjoying your retirement and time with each other. By the way, you mentioned that there’s more or other government benefits you received. May I ask what are those pls. If you don’t mind me asking. And when did you receive it? Thank you again.
We have a low income so Revenue Canada assed us to receive GIS
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Do we apply for that?
No it is assigned to you if you qualify
Love this as someone who is retiring in 3 months. Just hoping to stay healthy so I can enjoy it.
Congratulations Jan, just keep active and have fun!
We too are in the “ fourth quarter” of our lives. We are enjoying retirement but right now I am stressing over the economy on a fixed income.
Sometimes Barbara things like economy are just not worth getting stressed about ,we have lived through huge interest rates of around 20% , houses going up and going down when we sold😱but life moves on through ups and downs . Cheers 🌺🙂🌺
Wonderful video, wise words, you both deserve every minute of a happy retirement, great to hear you are both healthy and well. All the best! Ronny
Thanks Ronny glad you enjoyed it hope you are keeping well Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Another great after breakfast game is Worldle - a geography quiz. My husband and I do this together every morning. Yes, retirement is a great time of life.
That's a great idea! enjoy your weekend Kaye Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Keep it up I have been retired for 27 years and love every moment, keep healthy and enjoy each other.
Thanks so much William Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Love, love, love your vlogs! I am learning so much from you - definitely going to try cooking the Stromboli. You both look so fit and healthy + have such a positive outlook that it inspires me and lots of other people too.
Thank you and keep on posting 🎥
Thanks Anne for your enthusiastic encouragement 💕
I love your show and I am watching it faithfully every Saturday morning. I have the good fortune of living in a place (North County San Diego) that you enjoy traveling to on your winter breaks. I particularly enjoyed your morning report today from Orange Beach, Alabama. As a huge Jimmy Buffet fan, I would explore the places that he sings and writes about in his songs and novels. He grew up very near to where you are staying. Just Wikipedia him and find the Jimmy Buffet Gulf Coast “trail”!
That is awesome! thanks for watching Beth glad you liked Orange Beach Cheers 🇨🇦☕️🇺🇸
An inspiration as always. I'm reminded of a quote attributed to Albert Einstein, "Once you stop learning, you start dying."
Great quote thanks for sharing have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂

Hello to you both. Well now how exciting the 7 year retirement itch🤣 You will be itching to get back to Portugal and can't blame you. We have been retired not quite three years and not looking back. Hi Tina and Norm,
Greetings from Southern California
The Land of Fruit and Nuts!
We watch you every Saturday morning while having breakfast and always enjoy your videos. We are both planning on retiring later this year and this video has really helped us with many of the things you discussed. Thank you for all the valuable insights.
M&M
That is awesome! we wish you both all the best for your retirement glad you enjoy watching our videos have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🇨🇦🙂
Thanks for sharing Mark have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂🍺
