  • This is a continuation (vid 2) of our conversation with Nick Petersen the Performance Propeller Manager at Mercury Racing talking props with us. In Part 2 we talk about the difference between the Tempest Plus and the Fury props, the impact tube length has on boat performance (Skeeter FXR owners watch this part closely), cast vs CNC built props, the difference between a Mercury Racing Pro vs Lab finish and the new Sport Master gear case.

    Thanks Ken for putting out these videos, I am saving the videos to keep for reference material. He didn't spend much time on the tempest plus props and the difference of it and the fury line. I hope some of that is covered in the next one... can't wait to see it.

      Steve I have already talked with Gary Diehl, he is Nicks counterpart at Mercury Propellers (as opposed to Nick at Racing). Told him that is something we want to dive further into.

      @@KenSmithFishing that would be perfect, thank you, for coming up with some great topics. Like a lot of people here we wish they were longer.

    Hey Ken. Congrats of the new BassCat Lynx. I just picked up a 26p Bravo 1XS and had a chance to run it briefly the other day on my Lynx. I have been running a 24p Fury 3 and haven’t been to pleased with it. Well let’s just say the Lynx really liked the Bravo. It was night and day. Better holeshot, way better handling and just over all feel. I was able to get 73.5mph at 5815rpm. This was running with the JP at 4. Still need some rpms, but I’m going to do a few more runs and see. You should definitely try a bravo on your Lynx.

    So Ken, question for Nick. I damaged my prop (Mercury 23P Tempest, stainless steel) yesterday on rocks. The leading edge on all 3 blades damaged (as well as the skeg). In for estimate to repair. The repair company, who do this all the time, said they can repair it, balance, checking it out. Otherwise it's buying another one. Thoughts on repairing a stainless steel blade?

    Great video. I didn’t feel like he answered why the new 250hp 4 strokes, for example, use a lower pitch prop than their 2 stroke counter parts do in the same boat application.

      Exactly. Threw that question right back over to the non-racing side.

      Ken said diameter, not pitch. He should have asked about lower pitch.

    • @jasonguidry6449
      @jasonguidry6449 3 роки тому

      They run lower pitches because they are rated to turn 300 more RPMs than the previous opti engines

    • @PMantle
      @PMantle 3 роки тому

      @@jasonguidry6449 It's actually due to lower slip from the new lower unit.

    • @rickpierce8090

      He answered that question in a previous video which addressed the Fury propeller being a little stiffer on the actual pitch. Thus the slip calculator is inaccurate on the Fury and four strokes.
