Thank you all for checking out this video! What an awesome song! We were pretty proud of ourselves with the Fibonacci thing but after a quick research after filming, it sounds like that's a well-known thing! What did you think about the song and the reaction? What's your Metal Tomatoes rating?
Maynard has stated the Fibonacci sequence wasn't intentional. Yet it seems oddly relevant to the lyrics. All about intuition versus over thinking, randomness versus deeper meaning.
Keep an open mind and make of it what you will.
🍅🤘82%
You can watch this and see Maynard talk about the Fibonacci Sequence

ChemicalReactions! that song is its own level. Tool is a band that defines their genre, rather than the other way around, while it is Prog, Tool is really their own genre :D There is a really deep thought in it, but it is shown in their own unique way. It is a bit like you need to have a Tool mindset in order to fully get Tool :D This song I rate 90%. Reaction was awesome ! Loved how you talked about the music and the band, quite a correct description. Anyway, I would appreciate if you reacted to Opeth - Harlequin Forest Live at the Royal Albert Hall, cheers :)
Nice bass mimic in the intro!
216trixie Thanks! Years and years of practice to perfect!
OK, this kid is being raised correctly. Good job Dad.
I agree as the Mom had nothing to do with this, right?
@@regionalrange3052 my wife and I listen to our tool records with the kids :)
“This is my vibe” lol
"are there any other tool songs we should react to"
yes all of them.
Very true.
“Sober” live from 1993
Couldn't agree more
parabol/parabola are musts!
Lost Keys/ Rosetta Stoned is a must as well
If you're eyes are closed, and nodding around like you're on heroin then you're listening to Tool correctly lol.
😂
More of an acid thing
So true
Dude, im getting into tool now and this exactly what this song bring to me, when it starts i just close my eyes and feel the vibe, problably the first song that do this to me. CRAZY, loved it
Jesse Halter that’s how all good music should be listened to
I'm a simple man, I see Tool, I click Like. Now to watch minds getting blown.
TheRealEmperor Do what must be done Lord Vader do not hesitate show no mercy.
Yeah buddy 👏👏
Yep!!!!
Same
I just did the exact same thing 😂
I've literally never had this much fun watching someone try to catch the beat of this song and struggle so hard.
Funnier than a Meshuggah show
LOL! I would have succeeded too if it wasn’t for those meddling musicians who kept changing the tempo! Rutroh Shaggy!
@@VergaHumeante I actually saw Meshuggah open for Tool when they toured for Lateralus. Shit was epic.
@@torresaurus_ I would have went insane! Lucky you!
Rodrigo Torres I went to that tour and missed all but one Meshuggah song... It was right after 9/11 happened and security was crazy. I got there 15 min before the concert started and the line was around the block and barely moving. By the time Tool went on, the venue was still half empty. People were so mad. That song and Tool were awesome though
Your dad is the man. He was truly feeling it. You need to give your pops respect on this one. You can tell he was sucked in at the end. You have an amazing dad
"It's like a freakin' Odyssey" she just summed up listening to Tool in a nutshell.
17:55 Smart girl! 👏👏👏 In no other reaction I've seen has someone worked it out themselves.
That she is!!
@@ChemicalReactions Your daughter is bloody genius. I'm impressed. Wow.
@@ChemicalReactions wow!!!
Your analysis was spot on. Really impressive stuff. If you liked this song, you’ll like pretty much anything from this album.
That was really impressive.
You couldn't hear Schism in 1996. Simply because Schism is from Lateralus record which was released in 2001. 1996 is a Aenima time
US Soldier darn you’re right. The first song I heard was actually aenima... But schism is the one that really captured my imagination when it came out.
@@ChemicalReactions you could try with Undertow, the first tool's album.
@@JUANQUISPE you would be correct if you left out their Opiate EP.
@@Niblade Opiate isn't an album ...
@@JUANQUISPE undertow is their second album my guy.
Call the coach....
He saying check out 'Opiate'....then he started talking bout how he knows me better than I know myself!...
......
....thats tufff...
Definitely listen to Parabol/Parabola off the same album. The whole album is a masterpiece.
My favorite album to date, can't wait for their new album.
Thor Anuth “Reflection” is also a masterpiece 🤘
I love ticks and leeches too
From start to finish, an amazing work of art!
Cool video. Favorite record (of all time) to date. Second Parabol/Parabola. I'm digging into the Fear Inoculum album now!
Thirteen year old girl after listening to a metal song: THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE!!!
Me: 😐... 😲... 🤯!!!
She is pretty bright, however me thinks there may have been some pre-recording research, that seemed to come a little too quick. Like i said she is a smart cookie, but I sense some shenanigans...
@@MaddogJones yes it came across like they talked about it like "tool used the fibonacci sequence in one of their songs!" and they both didnt know it was lateralus actually and she recognized it. If they did full on research and faked this shes a natural and should do movies :D
never seen a 13 year old girl with her nose pierced, but I guess the worlds changing....
Didn't she say she drives to school
I'm more impressed that she caught the song was making fun of itself and even has a part that doesn't match and mentions itself there as well. She caught on to way more than just some number pattern.
My Haiku poem
Will I ever finish it
Evidently yes.
Tool isnt for everyone no, its complex and dark, the videos often disturbing.... BUT...
To me they are beyond masters of their craft, they weave a tapestry of complex musical patterns with deep lyrics, sung by a voice of power yet with a dark edge to it.
They are among the very, very best of musicians, regardless of genre, they are master-craftsmen among musicians.
OK metal elitist
@@jocelyn3390 or he has an opinion...and he isn't wrong. Whats the point of this comment?
@@jocelyn3390 He's right though haha
Wonderful description. It's everyone's experience. This track to me is not dark, it hits the core that we all feel. It's an evolution. It's beauty. Each to their own. It's actually very uplifting.
And don’t forget how you would swallow their babies
In July 2017, Maynard's friend Joe Rogan described his writing process in a podcast; "He wrote a song to the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical sequence. It starts from one, the next number is one, and the next number being two, creates the 2+1 which is three, continuing in this mathematical progression. That's how they found the chord progression. It began linking up to the Fibonacci sequence." The syllables Maynard sings in the first verse follow the first six numbers in the pattern, ascending and descending in the sequence 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3. "Black (one), then (one), white are (two), all I see (three), in my infancy (five). Red and yellow then came to be (eight), reaching out to me (five). Lets me see (three)." In the next verse, Maynard begins with the seventh number of the Fibonacci sequence (13), implying a missing verse in between. He descends back down with the following pattern; 13-8-5-3. "As below so above and beyond I imagine (13). Drawn beyond the lines of reason (eight). Push the envelope (five). Watch it bend (three)." The second verse adds the missing line to complete the sequence; "There is (two), so (one), much (one), more and (two), beckons me (three), to look through to these (five), infinite possibilities (eight)." 1-1-2-3-5-8-5-3-2-1-1-2-3-5-8-13-8-5-3.[5][3][6]
The song's introduction also ends at the one minute and 37 seconds mark, where the first verse then begins. This time is significant, as it is a reference to the Golden Ratio. Rounding the Golden Ratio to four places gives 1.618. When converted to minutes and seconds, 1.618 minutes becomes approximately one minute and 37 seconds. This also ties it to the Fibonacci sequence as the ratio of one Fibonacci number to its predecessor tends towards the Golden Ratio. In addition, 1:37 can be rearranged into 13:7, which is significant because 13 is the seventh number in the Fibonacci sequence.
Tool is nerd prog metal, and I say that very respectfully with no derogatory intent, it just is, and I love it for it.
Parenting done right! 🌀 out!
Parabol / Parabola next!
Yup that's correct!
Absolutely! Maybe Intension/Right in Two
One of my favorite Tool songs is Right in Two the lyric video, really makes you think. Great reaction!
one of my favorites too! great song
YES!
Yea, but they should do Incention with it. To me listening to RIT without it is like listening to Parabola without Parabol.
I said it in another video, and I'll say it in this one; listen to, Parabol/Parabola.
I give Lateralus 100%!!!!!
Definitely this one. Parabol/Parabola 💯
This whole album is a masterpiece.
Yup
chadnuts No arguments here!
anything before laterulus is gold, new album will most likely blow
You took the Tool pill. It changes you. Thank you for your reaction.
Best new reaction channel in a while. I love you guys!
"HD650 vs Beats"
Please get your daughter a pair of those HD650s....one can't just listen to Prog Metal with Beats. Or rather should not.
I approve of this message! ;)
A little surprised he went for Beats since 90% of the Money goes into the name ;)
Those HD-650s are not cheap though!
@@ChemicalReactions Check out Massdrop. They usually have pretty good deals on Sennheiser headphones. They work with them to make slightly less expensive versions. I'm pretty sure they have a version of the 650s.
@@dangr123 agree! I see the HD58X gets high praise by testers.
I love my 598s. I just can't justify to myself spending that much for 650s.
25:55 THAT'S an interesting thought; pushing the boundaries (spiral out) to avoid spiraling in! I don't recall anyone else making that association. Damn that's good.
Edit: and then comes the attribution to disassociation.... 😲
We’ve got mind blowing thoughts for days! 😉 Stay tuned!
NEXT TOOL SONG - Right In Two. more philosophical lyrics, REALLY good vibe
I second this.
Right in Two lyrics aren’t more philosophical than Lateralus, just more straight and not so complicated
Give "Right in Two" a listen by Tool
One of the best bands ever. My favorite song is still "Schism" and I can't wait for the new album!
2 more months man, just two more months, 30th August
TOOL never dissapoints...time signatures, lyrics, built up, emotions and philosophy. That band is just perfect. you have at least 10 masterpieces like this to experience. enjoy the journey.
-Right in two
-parabola
-vicarious
-46&2 ( and the o'keefe musical fondation cover)
-jimmy
-apc judith
-wings for marie part 1 & 2
ALWAYS with lyrics
Only 10? More like everything!
Yes, it is the Fibonacci sequence. But there's more to it than just the lyrics.
The lyrics to the song begin at 1:37. 1.618 is the Golden ratio. 1.618 minutes = 1:37.
The instrumental timing of the song changes from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8. 987 is the 16th Fibonacci number.
John Myers Deeeeep!
The syllables are all in Fibonacci’s sequence too.
Black - 1 - and - 1 - white are - 2 - all I see - 3 - in my infancy - 5 - red and yellow then came to be - 8
You're absolutely spot on with the lyrics! Love it that you guys figured out the Fibonacci sequence right away. :)
Jamel Lange the way the lyrics were written it was pretty clear that something was different with the lyrical structure!
@@ChemicalReactions yeah the band has said that it was a poorly executed joke used to simply make people over think about the song itself. I'm most impressed that you caught the song was mentioning itself a couple times.
A Perfect Circle ~ Judith & 3 Libras both good videos too.
Orestes
@@tonyyul703 yes to all of those songs!
Thanks for doing this! Tool is awesome. Saw them live in Berlin 2 weeks ago and it was mindblowin'
You guys nailed it! So fun watching you both figure it out. You're both smart, I never would have figured it out without the video that's floating around explaining the sequence
Tool is in a class all by themselves! Finally you reacted to my favorite band! They have so many songs that are amazing!
46&2 or RIGHT IN TWO,would be
great for future reactions!💘 you
guys,💘 your real reactions!💖❤
Timothy Osborne Both of those songs would be awesome to see them react to!!!!🤘🤘
Yeah, I was just about the suggest those same songs. If they want some angsty, more mainstream metal style Tool then something off the Opiate ep would be the best.
i class them with rage against the machine, soundgarden, and aic.. so real good class if they were to have one.

Rush too
"this was a really long song"
along comes a wild 7empest over 15 min!
Anesthetize - Porcupine Tree - 17mins
Shine On You Crazy DIamond (1-9)- Pink Floyd - 22min.
There should never be a time limit to such great songs
*chuckles in funkadelic*
Dream Theater - Octavarium is almost 30 mins long!
Flaming Lips - 7 Skies H3 - 1,440 minutes (24 hours) The USB drives were sold in human skulls for $5,000 each.
*laughs in Holy Trinity*
You guys - "Which tool songs should we listen to next?"
Me- "yes"
BigRitt40 😂
The stuff from the new album is just fantastic!
Love you guys, keep it up! So happy you did TOOL!
This is the first video I've seen from you and I absolutely loved your reaction. Your analysis was spot on! I really hope you'll do more Tool, they have dozens of incredible songs.
Ca va etre un plaisir! Hope you come back to our channel for more!
really need to watch Tool - "Sober" live at reading festival 1993, amazing performance
Best version of sober that I've ever heard.
Yo she figured out they were using the Fibonacci sequence 😲😲😲
INCREDIBLE
Glad you liked it. It's an intense experience. I remember the first time I heard this. It absolutely kicked me around. I can totally get the groove that you were getting. I waited 13 years to see them and only on the 4th of June I saw em in Prague. It was so intense. Enjoy it all. I'm kind of jealous that you are really only experiencing them for the first time but honestly, that feeling will always stay with you. Thank you for sharing this familiar experience with us all :)
So fucking awesome that you share this with one another. Beautiful!
Schism was on Lateralus in 2001. You can't have listened to it in 1996 😂
Ear Invaders it's a shame that UA-cam has now become about making money off of judging other ppl's hard work
Especially THESE types of videos.. this dude is totally annoying
Yet you watch and comment lol
Lmao
angra - nothing to say
R.I.P. Andre Matos 1971-2019
Boa, Pedro! ou Lisbon.
Best reaction and analysis to this song I’ve ever seen. Bravo!!
Awesome! really. I've never seen anyone else come close to figuring out, the inner workings of this song. To see your daughter start to get the " something about this, is setting off alarms" look in her face. And then watch her actually put it together.(w/ a little help from DAD!) Very impressive! By now I'm sure u have really dug into backstory of this masterpiece, so i'll close w/ you just gave me a glimmer of hope for the future. Thank You!
Hell Yeah! I am glad you are finally doing Tool.
Wow, I totally get you, dad. This is exactly how I react when I hear this song.
This video has earned a subscription from me. Lateralus is one of my favorite songs of all time, and you guys nailed the interpretation. Your daughter is very sharp! If you like deep, multi-layered musical journeys like this, keep exploring Tool. I'm looking forward to future reactions!
Should’ve done this a few videos back but NOW I’m subscribed! You are a lovely father and daughter pair with a great ear 🤘
I enjoy the Dad, Daughter aspect. Makes me miss my lovely girl working in another state... I love you Emily!
Great reaction, you guys should definitely react to Tool’s Right in Two and Vicarious, I think those Song’s commentaries on our current society would be a great conversation for you two. Keep up the great work. You earned a sub
So close to that 10k Sub mark guys! Amazing work and fantastic reactions as always! #roadto10k
Tool is one of my fave bands. Every song is great. Great reaction. Happy Fathers Day!
" I feel like they're really smart and they're trying to flex on us". Truer words have never been spoken. Maynard is in a 3 bands toool apc and Puscifer.
"The Fibonacci sequence!" Hm.. smart girl. Raised well.
Google is pretty smart too.
Awesome! Glad to have found some TOOL in here! Hope I can find more! I am a huge TOOL fan since the 90s! Such a huge back story to this song. I’m going to assume some one else has typed it out. If not look it up in UA-cam! Btw TOOL is all about the lyrics just as much as the songs delivery, so glad you have segment when you dive into lyrics.
This is not just a song..it is a blueprint to live your life by.. Not to over think..and to forever grow and expand..Peace,love and harmony to you guys!! Beautiful video
Yes the Fibonacci sequence. But the lyrics do not follow it the whole song. It's also Incorporated into the music as well. There is a video a student made as a class project that breaks down the song.
Swing on the spiral... Forward then back... The first section of lyrics climbs then falls on the sequence.
You're right the length of the music itself and the time signatures are all part of the fibonacci sequence, the video -> ua-cam.com/video/wS7CZIJVxFY/v-deo.html
The lyrics climb to 13 and then back down again.
You’re gonna have to do more TOOL. Their music and lyrics are so deep. Just as beautiful as brutal. Right in Two is a great next reaction.
Saw these live last night, first gig in the UK for god knows how long. They were incredible!
you guys are awesome ! i love this reaction ...
Heck Yah finally some Tool!
You guys should check out Vicarious by Tool. The lyrics are amazingly troubling, but speak to the darkness in people. The music is incredible too, but as is much of Tool's stuff.

Me too Ben
Also just remember that With some songs, TOOL uses very off beat time times signatures so it’s very hard to simply tap your foot or nod your head to, sometimes you just Gotta sit there and take it in
Dominic Cerna yep, it just flows right into you
Nicely done, she's already got the Tool face 😀 Subbed!
Love that you're taking time and introducing a new generation to a great band like TOOL.
You should do Tool's double song Parabol/Parabola. Another one with a great meaning.
Thats only one of their double songs, there are more. Incention-Right in Two, Lost Keys-Rosetta Stoned come to mind, and I guess Wings 1&2 aswell
Started listening to heavier music on the way to school !!! Thats great
Yeah, it seems that the School of Metal is starting to pay off. \m/

“It’s like a frikin odissey” yes, yes it is
You guys are great together. Good job!
You must go on the TOOL journey. You two are adorable! 💕
hey guys, could you react to some of the works of André Matos? He was a brazilian musician, he was a singer, composer, maestro and pianist. He unfortunately passed away 4 days ago and it was a shock for all of his fans world-wide and even people that just knew his bands by name... He played on bands such as Viper(1985-1991), the most famous one Angra(1991-2000), Shaman(2000-2006), then his solo career, besides another projects like Virgo, Symfonia and a project with the guys from an american prog metal band called Sieges Even. He was just 47 years old... He really loved his country and was proud to show the world what we're capable of musically, even with all the music degradation across the globe, he was persistent, yet with his death the media didn't care at all, at max a channel made a homage of 3 minutes, but nothing more than that... The politicians even less, it's pretty sad and if you could react to one or some of his work would be awesome and it would mean the world for his fans such as myself. My request is this one ua-cam.com/video/zMB6GyTB5JY/v-deo.html the song is from the album Holy Land(1996), I'd send you the album version but I'd like you to see André Matos and how his perfomance was. People might have another requests, I would put all the requests from him here aswell but I know you do a video per reaction, so this is a good one in my opinion
Awesome!!! How bout show her 46&2 by TOOL?? Also The guitarist Adam Jones said whenever people call them “metal”, he said he feels like he needs to take a shower because he feels dirty LOL
Dominic Cerna Really?
ChemicalReactions! Yep true statement
Adam Jones is funny. But I can see what he means - they don't really sound metal, just heavy
I love your reaction. subscribed 😁
First of all, this channel is awesome. I love that you guys don't just focus on the reaction part and overreacting as we see in a lot of other channels but you try to analyze every song. And I have to say you both are very clever and make very valid and interesting points, and I think that's the whole interest of those reaction videos, having someone else opinion and ideas on top of course of seeing you guys discovering our favorite songs!
Of course, I can only advise you to check Doomsday from Architects, very moving song when you start to learn about the story behind it. Any other song by them is awesome by the way.
Cheers from France !
Maynard is not responsible for the vibe, other than his own lyrics and vocals.
He's repeated several times that the rest of the band writes music first, then he comes in and writes vocal part and lyrics to it. Still, he's great at enhancing that mood.
You got the gist of this song right, including the mathematical sequence.
Btw, if you wish, you could go on the journey of songs and lyrics by Maynard about his sick mother, the clear core of them being some of the most recognizable songs:
Jimmy [Tool]
Judith [APC]
Wings for Marie, Part 1&2 [Tool]
Horizons [Puscifer]
Tool is cool! Thanks for that fantastic song. Don't forget "Aphrodite's Child - The Four Horsemen".
Maverick here reporting in for the ChemSquad. I had the pleasure of seeing Tool live a few years ago, it was such a special experience. I often lose myself in a whole album, take a journey between the lines of consciousness. Glad to see you pick up on the deep layers and hidden patterns, the spiral is also a common theme in their artwork. I would recommend the song "Right in two" for your sharp minds to dissect. Also would love to see your reactions for Tool the Pot. Nightwish Greatest show on Earth. Unleash the Archers Awakening :) Much love from the Uk
I subscribed and I hit the like button. Tell your daughter to keep checking you, she has got it down... She has the keys, listen. lol. Also I appreciate the dynamic. Thank you both.
“It’s the Fibonacci sequence bro” I can totally hear Kmac’s voice hahaha.

Such a great channel. Good to see yall reacting to my favorite band and one of my favorite songs! Please check out Parabol/Parabola next. Such a deep message in that song and great instrumentation as usual. You won’t be disappointed. Keep up the great reactions!
Love that your doing this with your daughter and connecting over music. All of Tool is worth your time and you will get a lot of followers from the Tool army if you continue listening/reacting. My favorite is Parabol & Parabola. 2 songs but you have to listen to both of them back to back.
You should check out "Insomnia" by Cellar Darling. They just recently put out an official live video from a concert in London from last year.
Good shit, subbed :)
Setting yourself up for MJKs mum trilogy...
Make sure to look into the meaning before you listen to Wings for Marie or Judith tho!
Next reaction should be Right in Two (my fav song of all time)!!
Some next level reacting, keep it up.
Juliet I totally get how you feel about TOOL's new single Fear Inoculum. Ive been a Tool fan since 1999. I was fortunate to have listened to their previous album before Lateralus came out. Schism was their first single from that album and I had mix feelings about it but the more I listened to it the more I enjoyed it and now years later I understand it. TOOL has those songs that just grow on you and the more you listen the more you enjoy it for what it is. Fear Inoculum so so typical TOOL style song and when he his the chorus Inhale Expel I get chills. Yeah I went back and listened again and again and it just gets better everytime. Continue to grow musically and like TOOL says. DONT OVER THINK AND OVER ANALYZE or you will miss the opportunities. Great video cant wait for yall two to review another Tool song. I recommend Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned. Enjoy!
