Your wife rocks getting you that case of MLs. I think so often, at least from my experience, some guys get worried about how their figure collecting hobby will be looked at. Especially by a significant other. So, to have someone that not only accepts that's a part of you but supports it in such a way is truly wholesome. You lucked out with Mrs. Robo. 👍
I really really did. She's given me "the look" on several occasions but that's been over 30 years. And I spoil her too, she loves Hellboy and Walking Dead and Nightmare Before Christmas so there's a LOT of that around too.
@@RoboDontKnow Same here. I've gotten "the look" over the last 32 years, but we also just finished setting up my wife's NECA/McFarlane/Playmates Terminator collection in the living room Detolfs.
Everytime I watch one of these and go through my own storage bins and see a figure that I remember I used to really like, I recall what Thew said: "It's like bumpin' into an old acquaintance that you don't really know anymore."
That black Spider-Man from the Red Hulk wave was one of my very first ML- the new ones are of course awesome upgrades but I always have a soft spot for that older one with the smaller eyes and blue wash.
The tubes make me want to go through my tubes . The Red Skull and the Baron Strucker did come in the face off. Strucker is the variant for Skull. Your wife is awesome. Keep the tubes rolling.
I'm a new collector and looking at these older figures made me realize I got into it at the proper time. Crazy how much better Marvel Legends has gotten.
@@RoboDontKnowthe way things are going? More “exclusives” than retail and so much reuse, it puts DCUC to shame? They’ll just be selling the .stl’s so we can print our own. And have some sub-coding that is locked into your account so you can’t sell or modify them. At all.
Dude… I enjoy the old tube spelunking right up there with my modern figs on display. It’s so much fun to find things that have been out of sight out of mind and reminisce.
This was a Robo video, so you're dang right I enjoyed it. Seeing the gangly proportions and lack of ankle rockers makes it easy to appreciate how far we've come lol
Just so you know, your Toybiz Sentinel is one of the few ones where the biceps on both sides were assembled correctly. You can verify it with the triceps structure in the back. A lot of sentinel would have at least one bicep that was meant to be on one side being swap to the other. It is subtle so not many people are aware of this. Most likely your tub sentinel will be different from the one on your display if you look at the biceps.
I think I still have the original Toad unopened around here, in the back room? I always wanted to grab another, but as soon as word got out, it was hard to find any. Wave II was scarce, as retailers thought it was just a passing fad. By wave X with the Sentinel BAF, they OVERordered to the point you could pick them up for a couple dollars on clearance a year later. 🤦♂️
My GF is the reason all my toys that were boxed up in the garage, never to see the light of day are on display in an extra bedroom. I was amazed when I opened the Hal Jordan DC Universe Classics figure and saw it had cost me $8.99 way back when.
My wife let me take over the main bedroom for storage/studio in order to get all this crazy UA-cam stuff going. It's been 10 years and she wants it back, haha, but that's the reason for the new space. More room and get the house back to looking more like a house and not several toy rooms.
My biggest sentimental piece is a full set, mint on card (clamshell) Toybiz Sentinel BAF wave. They were the first 'modern' toys that I liked and which got me back into collecting. It's hard to believe how much time has passed.

Those flat hinged hands were good for one thing & one thing only. Working sock puppet mouths! If only we had some 1:12 scale sock puppets they could've used!
That tentacle was shared between the Sentinel & Omega Red. And I'm amazed your Moon Knight still looks so good. Mine managed to absorb colored plastic into the cape from 3 different figures while standing on the shelf. That soft white plastic is just a sponge!
I know you can probably still pick up a Legends Sunfire for near retail, or could until recently at least, but part of me would love an upgraded version with one of the newer bodies/modern engineering. The Wasp from the 2pack earlier this year makes me think they could go all Cockrum/Byrne retro badass on him, could be rad. But first, Banshee.
I can definitely relate to having an emotional attachment to toys and a lot of these bring back fond memories. I was in 6th or 7th grade when the ML Sentinel wave came out and my mom took me to Meijer at like 9pm one night to look for them. I found all but the legs and never did track those down in the wild (ended up buying them on eBay just a few years ago)
Best tales vid yet 🤣🤣 Yeah black suit spidey was part of the red hulk BAF, still visually nice and once posed he looks better I'd say, in air preferably lol. I'm sure I've already said it, but I really find that all the pain and all the washes, and all the texture those ToyBiz ML figures had just makes them look like they're incredibly dirty and in need of being washed. The aesthetic just doesn't work for me (nor does the weird proportions and articulation scheme). Always entertaining Robo, even for someone who doesn't collect action figures.
Yeah, I think that was a by-product of McFarlane doing the gritty realistic paint jobs. It worked at the time and there's still fans of it but I'm glad it's been phased out.
Yeah “dark wash” was a thing in the custom community, but I always thought it made them look like they were cleaning up an oil spill. 🤦♂️ I get it CAN help bring out some sculpting details, but some just might as well have painted theirs black.
