I read every comment, all 1,700+ of them on our last video. While many were happy, sharing joys of buying a house, having a newborn baby… many said they were going into this holiday season missing someone they’d lost, or dealing with something hard in 2024. So I figured I’d share my own below.. Life is full of ups and downs, uncertainty surrounds us. I lost my grandfather (tattooed portrait on my right arm) in June of this year and it rocked our family. This area I’m in now was an area he invested in the early 2000’s, I spent a good amount of winters in this area growing up. He used to watch the channel, and he’d tell me towards the end of his time “you know, I seen you on TV!” anytime I’d see him. But life has to go on.. My family is healthy, kids are growing. My oldest daughter was hospitalized for nearly a year when she was born, fought for her life to be here.. That was 12 years ago. She wants to tape and mud drywall on this house since it’s something she’s confident in doing, she tells me it all the time. As a father, there’s nothing more that I look forward to than getting this project to drywall and getting to share that experience with my daughter. When she was in the hospital, I never thought I’d see the day she made it out.. Let alone be able to eventually help Dad with a remodel project on a property of ours. In short, I’ve had highs and I’ve had lows this past year, the same as many of you. Life is hard and I feel for any of you who may be going through it. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year’s to all of you.
What a beautiful story Matt and if you live long enough you're heart is full of sadness love and laughter I'm sixty five and have buried a daughter Molly left us with a grandson he was three months old when she passed she is missed so much but her memory of being gangly uncoordinated always makes me laugh thank you for sharing Matt MERRY CHRISTMAS TOO YOU AND YOUR'S
Wow, I won! I've never won anything before. I can't believe it! Thanks so much Matt for all you do and for giving back. Merry Christmas to you and yours ❤.
This is by far my favorite series of yours Matt. Its nice to see you doing your own thing and you sharing it with us, Its like we're experiencing building this by your side from a far. Thank you for this !
Hey Matt, Thanks for the plans, your easy go teaching style shows through your years of experience - love your work and teaching - keep up the great work.
I like the way you calculated the height of the posts supporting the ridge. I've used a slightly different method but will remember yours when the situation calls for it. Thanks for such an educational approach to your videos.
Congratulations to our winners! Read the description, follow instructions and let's get you paid! Over 1,300 entries! If you didn't win, don't worry.. I have plenty more to give out over the next 365 days until our next Christmas giveaway!
dig that fancy calculator, but i don't use one. i lay down chalk lines after i nail the bottom plate to the first point wall stud, then snap the rake. then nail the stud, lay blocks between studs, mark ,lift and cut stud. add double top plate, raise the wall. stanley 25' tape. still dragging cords around.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Bet you’re proud of your boy, he’s doing great things and learning a ton! Love seeing you guys working on your property.
Awesome educational video. Love your 'engineering' commentary. I do cringe a bit watching you slosh through that cold mud though. Thanks again from a fellow AG'ian.
Merry Christmas Matt!!! Now I am going to need you to work New Years and all holidays the first half of next year to ensure these videos get out in a timely manner to feed my addiction!! In all seriousness I wish you the best going into 2025. Keep being you, enjoy life with the family, and making great content.
Observations: 1.) “People ask me, ‘Matt, why do you double stack your windows?’” Also people: silent about why there’s no cripple studs under the edges of the opening.🧐 2.) It’s looks cold on the day you were working. 3.) It’s clear you’ve been in the game a while. You have the math down pat. 4.) Nice job;kudos, and greetings from Texas.
Since I ran my jacks / trimmers up underneath the header and didn’t do a broken trimmer, I don’t need cripples there. Awesome observation and smart thinking. It was COLD! Having been in the industry over a decade now, I still enjoy the little buildings like this one.. Hope all is well this Christmas morning in Texas!
Merry Christmas Matt!! 2 things 1- are those the Truwerk pants? And how do you like them? 2- why no rafter ties? I know nails go a long way for structural integrity but those ties aren't much $$.
1. Yes, love them. They’re great, don’t keep me warm, but they’re comfortable! 2. Such a small span, I’m not worried about this thing moving anywhere. I’ll be OK without on this one.
Overkill is my middle name. It definitely is, but when you build for a living.. why do anything mediocre? Once the new sonotube piers are poured, this thing will be earthquake ready.
As someone who doesn't know anything about building, maybe is it possible to put tyvex or a tarp over the plywood floor and keep the ,ud of it? Merry Christmas.
Hey Matt I love your videos although I am not a framer or maybe will get close to it so love learning from you 🙏🏽 I just wanted to know what that app that your using on 11:32?

It's relatable.. Took me a long time to figure that out, not everyone's going to build new, but many of us can remodel.
Today I learned what a dead load and a live load is. Very cool.
Hey Matt,
Thanks for the plans, your easy go teaching style shows through your years of experience - love your work and teaching - keep up the great work.
Absolutely loving this series, especially as you explain what and why.
Thanks Matt. Your videos are the most soulful. I do not know English, and I watch them with subtitles and translation. Very interesting!

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Bet you’re proud of your boy, he’s doing great things and learning a ton! Love seeing you guys working on your property.
This is an excellent series Matt. I think I would have started with a load of gravel, I hate working in the mud like that!
Hell yeah brother, looks good so far!
Merry Christmas, Matt!
Man you are killing it with these style of videos! Much more better! Great content and great building. 🤘
You like this more than my past stuff? 😂 I enjoy it more than that, for what it’s worth..
I love watching the perfection of the build, sitting next to the toppling retaining wall XD
Keep it up!
Hahaha, I’ll get that taken care of next!

Merry Christmas and happy new year mattbangswood , From Carson city nv
Seems appropriate that the winners receive their prizes in wooden crates labeled "FRAGILE", a famous Italian brand
SEeing your ladder rungs caked with mud had me dying 😂
I’m kind of surprised that you haven’t gotten a number curious older retired neighbors come by greet you and check out the activity. 👀
Off camera I definitely have!
Matt, it really looks like you needed to start with a new fence.
I need a place to sleep first. 😂. Fence, retaining wall, landscaping.. I’ll likely do it all at the same time.
Observations:
1.) “People ask me, ‘Matt, why do you double stack your windows?’”
Also people: silent about why there’s no cripple studs under the edges of the opening.🧐

@ Thanks, I learn a lot from your channel.
Fun project man! That retaining wall looks bout ready to go though 😢
It’s on its way out!
Merry Christmas Matt!! 2 things

This cabin is an overkill 6 inch studs and beams under for flooring
Overkill is my middle name. It definitely is, but when you build for a living.. why do anything mediocre? Once the new sonotube piers are poured, this thing will be earthquake ready.
Great video! With 2x6 it probably could have been 24OC just as well, right? I mean the walls
And no tool belt 👍👍👍
This mud has been killing me.
As someone who doesn't know anything about building, maybe is it possible to put tyvex or a tarp over the plywood floor and keep the ,ud of it? Merry Christmas.
I bet the neighbors call you that guy that talks to himself while working.
😂 It’s definitely a weird thing to see.
You don’t look like him but you give constriction bob Ross vibes and I love it
I’m growing a fro! I love Bob Ross.
Mary crismas
I Watch your videos
Merry Christmas, Matt! I am enjoying this build series. Where is this property?
PNW
Looks like the house behind you could use a new roof lol
I want to buy it next…
👍👍
How do you like the Dewalt nail gun
Hands down, I plan to frame with this forever..
it used to be every roof was a cut and stack
What kind of Fascia are you talking about?
Finger joint, pre primed. Don’t know the name of it up there, but Advantage Plus is what I’ve used for years or Windsor One.
Hey Matt I love your videos although I am not a framer or maybe will get close to it so love learning from you 🙏🏽 I just wanted to know what that app that your using on 11:32?
Construction Master Pro!

¡Lamento que no hayas ganado! Habrá más herramientas para brindar. ¡Feliz Navidad para ti y tu familia y gracias por mirar! 🤝
Aren't you worried about the piers loosing their footing and slipping?
Nah, it was compacted. They’ll be fine. It’ll be replaced in a few anyways.
Why is the pitch of the roof so low. That looks about the bare minimum for shingles
It’s pretty low, matches the house. Minimum for shingles is a 2/12!
You can’t just get rid of the double top plate ?!? Even if everything lines up it still locks your walls together
You could, but shouldn’t. 1-1/2” isn’t enough, not with roof bearing middle of two studs.
Slow down, it’s not production framing
Speed demon, so much progress.. 😂
If only..
Ohhhh ok I didn’t win now it’s time to unsubscribe and move onto the next “influencer”
it was good while it lasted. it isn’t you, it’s me..
Influencers give out sponsored company tools, this was my cash, and tools I bought. 🤝🙂
Too small brutha, not worth it
The giveaway? Or my little studio? It’s big enough. 😅
