Psychedelics killed my drug and alcohol dependencies - one trip two years ago to purge my depression and chronic anxiety from my system was the best decision I ever made. I've done LSD a few times since, but after my last high dose trip I realized that the medicine has taught me enough for now. I might return to psychedelics later in my life if I ever find a source.
Strongly recommend just sticking to shrooms if you want an hallucinogenic experience. I was given “acid" one time by someone I trusted (at the time) and it turned out too intense that the trip lasted for 24 hours. Can't really be sure what you're getting aside from shrooms. Cause I personally have never had a bad experience with mushrooms though.
As I understood, the studies Prof Nutt cites indicate that the reduction of the efficacy of the control functions makes possible increase in connectivity, that is, connections not edited so to speak by the, normally extremely useful, control functions.
I've used LSD a number of times over the past 2 years with the specific goal to alleviate (non-clinical) depression and anxiety. In my experience it did help, particularly when taking a regular dose (+/- 70 μg) (as opposed to micro dosing over a longer period; not worth it in my opinion). It seems to me that it is a great breakthrough therapy for when you're stuck and your brain needs a reset. However, depression/anxiety have underlying root causes that LSD on itself will not solve in the long term. Therefore I do believe it best complemented with regular psychotherapy. I do not particularly like the effects of LSD because it makes me loose control and I absolutely hate loosing control, so I have to be in a very relaxed state to avoid a bad trip. Even then it's still quite exhausting, sitting through 6-8 hours in such an altered state. It can be fun, especially listening to music or watching a good film, but at times it can feel too overwhelming and there is nothing you can do but sit it out. For me that is the biggest roadblock, even though the day after I can feel a newfound lightness in life.
I remember days my anxiety flew over the fence, weighed my options and there i found this dude who got the best strains of psilocybin and other psychs...

Ketchup and cornflakes started out as medicinal health foods.
Legalizing for doctors would be a mistake. Replacing psychedelic culture with controlled lab conditions would be such a loss.
