Yes, Abby must watch RoboCop. She has no choice but to complete the Paul Verhoeven "Sci Fi Trifecta". Ironically, in reverse release order. And for Medieval Fiction, check out "Flesh & Blood" by Paul Verhoeven. Highly recommended. PS: The Sharon Stone leg cross was in "Basic Instinct". Verhoeven directed that as well.
Ten year old me got dropped off at the theater alone to see this. It's still one of my favorite movies and the reason I think I had a crush on Sharon Stone.

12 year old me thought this was the most awesome movie ever when it came out. Adult me still agrees. I never stop feeling sorry for that poor dude on the escalator. My man was just on his way home. Arnie is in top form but Ronnie Cox makes a great villain and chews up most of the scenes he's. His line delivery is on point. "In 30 seconds you'll all be dead, and I'll blow this whole place up and be home in time for corn flakes." that's got to be my favorite line. Followed by, "Who told you to THINK? I don't give you enough information to THINK! You do as you're told, THAT'S WHAT YOU DO!
"How's the bald guy getting far in this fight?" Because it's the awesome Michael Ironside! You met him before as Lt. Raczek in Starship Troopers, but his most famous role was as the voice of secret agent Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games.
'Basic Instinct' is the legs crossing movie, it's actually pretty good. and another pretty good movie with Sharon Stone would be 'The Quick and the Dead'. but anything with the romantic stuff would be fine, Toy gets so stinking cute when there's romantic things on the screen.
This movie is based on the novel "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale", by Philip K. Dick. His work has been adapted many times over the years. He was a very quirky, very underrated author during his lifetime.
Seeing this in the theater when it released, I remember when Arnie was pulling the bug out of his nose, a guy in the audience said, very loudly, "Wow, pick me a winner dude!" Everyone lost it bad. I was with a bunch of friends that night, we were there to cheer on Debbie Carrington (Thumbelina, the little person) who we all went to high school with. That was a delightful watch. Total Recall is a serious mind bender. Combined with all the wild practical effects it stands head and shoulders above most of the movies from that time period.
Abby should definitely watch RoboCop and Toy, you're thinking of Basic Instinct, also directed by Paul Verhoeven =) Michael Ironside is a freaking badass! Just watch him in V (the TV-show and the miniseries)! His voice is even freaking iconic, from voicing Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games to voicing Darkseid in the DCAU Timmverse shows like Superman: TAS, Justice League and JL Unlimited. He even voiced Frank Miller's Batman version in one episode of The New Batman Adventures (still part of Batman: TAS). The word you're looking for is "hologram".
Maybe my favorite Robert Duvall performance as well. Which is saying something after great roles in The Godfather, Network, Apocalypse Now, and so many others.
The first summer blockbuster of the 1990s. From the director of Robocop (1987), screenwriters of Alien (1979) and based on an short story by the author of Blade Runner & Minority Report. Hi Toy ,Abby . Love your reaction to total recall. I love Arnold's movies. You think this is the real Quade it is😂 See you at the party Richter😅 Please watch more of Arnold's movies like kindergarten cop or running man, last action movie, Jingle all the way Or twins or junior.
21:05 That is the late Debbie Carrington. She was also in the Chuckey Movies, and she was one of the original Ewoks', as well as various movies. Sadly, she died in 2019 at the age of 60.
The movie you're trying to think of with the uncrossing of the legs is "Basic Instinct" (1992) and it is a film by Paul Verhoeven starring Sharon Stone. As for other movies to watch, both "Blade Runner" and "Minority Report" are based on stories by this same author. Also, you might like "Blade," if you haven't seen that yet. It came out between this movie and "The Matrix," and shares the style of both. (BTW, thank you for noticing the "red pill," which appeared here before it appeared in "The Matrix.")
I love this movie. Ive seen plenty of reactions to this but yours is the absolute best one ive seen. It was like watching it the first time all over again.
I love it, Michael Ironside who plays Richter in this movie also plays Rasczak in Starship Troopers, and you say he reminds you of Neil Patrick Harris's character from Starship Troopers? lol
Let me tell you, this movie was SO GREAT to experience with a full theater. We were all so into it and it kept us all guessing until the very end (and there are still questions!). Paul Verhoeven the director has stated that they tried to write it in a way that either scenario was possible: that he really went to Mars and did all those things or he had a schizoid embolism while he was strapped into that Rekall chair. Personally I lean towards he really did it because even the actual look of the girl he fell in love with - that he had already seen in his dreams - is the actual one he met on Mars. Anyway, tons of fun!
Yeah, this is not CGI. This is actually the year before "Terminator 2", the movie that officially started the CGI craze (although pioneering CGI-flick "The abyss" actually arrived the year before "Total recall"). The practical effects are made by the genius Rob Bottin, of "The thing" and "Robocop" fame, and won him a well-deserved Academy Award.
Pioneering CGI flick was The Young Sherlock Holmes in terms of first CGI character. But the first movie with lots of CGI sequences that I can remember was The Last Starfighter.
I've loved this movie since seeing it in the theater with my high school D&D clique! Every Friday at school before we had a rpg party/sleepover we would tell each other 'See you at the party, Richter!' Great reaction, Ladies 🤣!!!
"he looks familiar..." - he's the Beverley Hills police captain If you watch again closely, you can see posters etc before he leaves Earth that foreshadow his interests, etc, so you don't know what is real as the director meant.
Always fun to see people checking out this classic action flick which was filmed here in my home of Mexico City, mostly in Estudios Churubusco but notably the subway chase scene was shot at Metro Chabacano and Glorieta de los Insurgentes. The look of those wall signs and those crappy old trains are unmistakable.
Hannah's refusing to look away at gorey parts while still looking disgusted. Toy's emotions going all over the place with every scene Just adds to this awesome cheesy masterpiece
(1:55) Dearest Toy, you are thinking about Basic Instinct (1992). It’s an erotic neo-noir thriller that features Sharon Stone in her most iconic role as Catherine Tramell. She plays a seductive and enigmatic crime writer who serves as the main antagonist in Basic Instinct. Ironically that film was also directed by Paul Verhoeven. Total Recall actually features a few other actors who worked with Verhoeven. Im not sure if you recognized him, but Richter was played by Michael Ironside. He was the same actor who played Mr. Rasczak, Rico’s teacher and Lieutenant in Starship Troopers (1997). The actor who played Tony is Dean Norris, who was also in Starship Troopers as the Commanding Officer of Rico’s training camp and is probably best remembered for portraying Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad. Ronny Cox not only portrayed the villainous The Governor of the Mars, Vilos Cohaagen, he also portrayed the evil corporate executive in Paul Verhoeven’s iconic film Robocop (1987). By the way, Abby must absolutely see Robocop!!! I think you mean a Hologram (15:00) 😂 No Abby, his real name is Hauser (19:12), which was briefly mentioned earlier. Brubaker is just one of his aliases, and it’s a reference to the character Charles Brubaker from the 1977 thriller “Capricorn One.” I’m sure it was mentioned but this film is based on “We Can Remember It for You Wholesome.” A short story written by Philip K. Dick in 1966. There are several differences between the film and the source material. For example, the main character in the is Douglas Quail, but in the film it’s changed to Quaid in order to avoid referencing Dan Quayle, who at the time was the Vice President of the United States. In the short story, Quail is described as a meek clerk working a menial office job, but that was changed to a blue-collar construction worker to better fit Arnold Schwarzenegger’s build and persona. There was even a subplot regarding an alien invasion of Earth in the short story. Before Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast as Douglas Quiad, Patrick Swayze, William Hurt, and Jeff Bridges were considered for the role. Total Recall was written to be very open to interpretation, even up to the very end where the audience questions whether the events of the film are real or a dream. That is something people still talk about to this day after all these years. Of course if the film ended with Quaid back at Recall being lobotomized, that’s something audiences wouldn’t have accepted back in 1990 with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which Verhoeven talked about in the Making of Total Recall. By the way, I think Abby should totally see Dredd (2012). That’s an absolute must see for fans of action and science-fiction.
I saw this in the theater! I have watched it countless times and can recite all the lines. It was a great year for movies including Batman and Ghostbuster 2. .Good ppl watch this movie. That's all I have to say. Thank you guys!
The movie starring Sharon Stone was Basic Instinct and it's worth a watch. That being said, I loved how you two had so much fun watching this awesome movie. I only wish you could have recognized the talent here. Rachel Ticontin was in several great movies but my favorite was "Fort Apache in the Bronx ". Opposite Paul Newman. You'll love it. Trust me. Then, the ugly guy you keep referring to was Michael Ironside. Great, great villain actor. Best known for "Scanners" another recommendation. Runny Cox was also in Robocop best known as Dick Jones. Ronny has appeared in so many classics like the Car. With James Brolin. Great, great actors with very many works under their respective belts. They dominated the 70s and 80s. As always, loved, just LOVED your reactions and comments. So glad you got to see this gem and so happy you got to share your experience with us!
John Carter from 2012, also about Mars. The lead is played by Taylor Kitsch who also played Gambit in Wolverine - Origins. Many other famous people and faces in the movie.
Very underrated movie, I thought it was great. I blame the name that disney decided to go with. it should have been called 'John Carter From Mars' like the book and people might have been interested in going to see it.
@@allisterfiend_2112I totally agree. I read Edgar Rice Burroughs as a teenager. I almost missed seeing it on the big screen because they didn’t say “John Carter OF MARS”! I love the movie and I wanted more. But they ruined the title!
Interestingly, that same year, George Lucas sold the Star Wars franchise to Bob Iger's Disney. They decided to cut their losses and minimize marketing for John Carter. They also stayed less time in movie theaters so that they can focus on Star Wars. Disney believed they could make so much more money with SW they decided not to follow up with John Carter novels. It would have been a great series to look forward to 😮 if they kept going.
37:40 Because there is very little air pressure on Mars, so the air in your body is exanding and the gases inside our blood will start boiling. We are normally under constant pressure that keeps our bodies intact and we are built to resist it, without that pressure, that is one of the most accurate theories of what would happen to our bodies in such a sudden drop to low pressure environment. This is exactly what happens to deep sea life if they are moved to the surface, where the pressure is significantly lower than in the deep sea 😅
It's funny that you mentioned Starship Troopers a couple times because there was one actor in this movie that was in Starship Troopers. Michael Ironside. He was the man that lost his arms on the elevator. He played the part of the teacher that was also the sergeant in Starship Troopers.
One of the things I like about this movie is that the ending leaves you thinking that everything Doug experienced actually was a memory implant by Rekall. Also, Mars has only 1% of the atmospheric pressure that Earth has, so if you were exposed to its atmosphere, your organs (including your eyes) would begin to expand until they exploded, just like in this movie.
This movie was made before CGI was a thing, but the effects (mostly) hold up very well even today. The fat lady at the check in really blew our minds back in the day and so many other scenes. Great fun we had. Oh, and it has to be said that Jerry Goldsmith's musical score was fantastic, right from the opening titles. RIP Jerry.
Rob Bottin was a PROLIFIC practical visual effects guy in the 80s & 90s. Since he got his big fame in The Thing. He also did, Total Recall, RoboCop, basic instinct, se7en and fight club
You were right about the practical effects and miniatures. The train going to the base was a miniature, and inside was even smaller miniatures, including the TV screen, which worked. I got to hang out with Robert Costanzo, who played the guy he worked with and led the team to kill Quaid. We were in Nashville, Tennessee, and started out at the Wild Horse Saloon before heading back to the blues clubs. When we were walking up the street Robert pulled up beside us in his Cadillac and started doing a driveby scene from a movie he was in, word for word, before using his finger gun to finish us off, lol. I was with another actor, Robert Miranda, who was in Eraser, another Arnold movie.
Basic Instinct is that movie with Sharon Stone where she crosses her legs. Ironically, for you, it is also directed by Paul Verhoeven. I am not a big Sharon Stone fan, but that is 1 of my favorite movies with her in it, along with The Specialist, Above The Law & Action Jackson. The Running Man is another sci-fi action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger you may love. The 6th day is another fun, & likewise. a bit trippy, sci-fi movie Arnold did with VFX you guys will "love", lol. Actually, Michael Ironside (Richter in this movie) was in the movie, "Scanners", that has real "trippy" FX.
"That's just like Starship Troopers with the ads!". Coincidentally, that movie was also directed by Paul Verhoeven, who was well known at this time as having EXTREME violence in his movies (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers). Can you imagine what the original versions of these movies looked like before the had their even more violent sections removed so that they could get an 'R' rating?
I graduated HS June of 89, and several friends had jobs at the Universal Cineplex in Hollywood, and over the next two years(summers), I saw more movies than I probably saw in my life. There were more turds than quality flicks, but every once in a while there was a diamond in the rough, and Total Recall was one of those films. As a kid of the 70's & 80's, I grew up with the generation before mine movies, which meant stuff like Alfred Hitchcock. And my current gen resurgence of all things Sci-Fi, and Total Recall was the perfect merger of those types of films. While I don't think this was Arnold's best film overall, it is probably my personal favorite, as I just love the story and the crazy set pieces(a super fun ride from start to finish).
You ask for suggestions so here's one: Big Brawl, also released some places under the title Battle Creek Brawl. It is an action comedy set in, I believe, the 1930s US starring Jackie Chan. It was released in 1980 and was Jackie's first film for a North American audience [though he was already a veteran actor in Hong Kong]
The storyline for this film is from the sci-fi author Phillip K. Dick. Here are some other films and TV series based on his works. -- The Man in the High Castle (TV Series) Electric Dreams (TV Series) The Adjustment Bureau A Scanner Darkly Paycheck Minority Report Blade Runner -- Loved the reactions y'all. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Total Recall, Robocop, and Starship Troopers are all directed by Paul Verhoeven and are all dripping with his style. There are also a few actors who show up in more than one of his movies (Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, Ronnie Cox, Dean Norris, Marshall Bell). Verhoeven also directed the movie with Sharon Stone where she crosses her legs and exposes herself, Basic Instinct.
I am so glad that someone else has recognized the similarity between the new Cybertruck and the 90's concept of the future! I forgot about this movie. I just remember Van Damme's movie, Time Cop. Edit: Toy - Tatted beauty, I absolutely adore your big loving heart! Everyone around you must always want to give you big hugs! I know I would. . .my sweet beautiful friend! ❤🥰🤗😇 And yes, I often wish that I was that UA-cam pillow so that for once, a beautiful woman will hug ME for a change. Lol😢
The movie yer thinking of at the opening is Basic Instinct, I'm pretty sure. The bald guy is Michael Ironside, who played the teacher turned LT in Starship Troopers. Now the part you've really gotta think about is... was that real, or Doug's Rekall ending in an embolism? Everything they said would happen with the Ego Trip happened. Everyone was trying to kill him, alien artifacts, he saved the world, got the girl, blue sky on Mars... So was the whiteout at the end just the close of the movie, or Doug dying in the Rekall chair?
Ronny Cox never dies from being shot, he dies from going out the window even though he gets shot enough times to die instantly. Maybe he has that written in his contracts LOL.
Just FYI if you ever were exposed to near vacuum don't worry because your eyes certainly won't pop out of your head, that was all Hollywood just having fun with props and effects. What would happen is the air would be sucked out of your lungs, and the water on your eyes and tongue would boil off instantly, since water can boil at very low temperatures in a vacuum. The only pain would likely be the inability to breathe/buildup of CO2 in your blood. Oh and then you'd die pretty quickly from lack of oxygen. Loved this reaction and this movie! This is my introduction to the channel and you got a new sub here!
This movie is special to me because it was filmed in Mexico City and I used to live there and passed most of the location quite often, which are most obvious in the subway cars and subway stations and modern buildings but also in the scene with the Johnny Cab - it is the Insurgentes 'glorieta' metro station. The left some of the neon ads the same in the background.
Ronny Cox , the Villain, was in Robocop. The Sharon Stone movie is Basic Instinct. You could also watch Showgirls Directed by Paul Verhoeven. or Hollow Man (2000)

And genius Stan Winston😊🎉❤
Abby has some of the best reactions.
I've loved this movie since seeing it in the theater with my high school D&D clique! Every Friday at school before we had a rpg party/sleepover we would tell each other 'See you at the party, Richter!' Great reaction, Ladies 🤣!!!
"he looks familiar..." - he's the Beverley Hills police captain
If you watch again closely, you can see posters etc before he leaves Earth that foreshadow his interests, etc, so you don't know what is real as the director meant.
Also the bad guy in Robocop.
And Captain Edward Jellico, the finest captain the USS Enterprise-D ever had.
Much more capable than that soft French guy.
Richter's partner also was in Beverly Hills Cop! I've always thought he looked like Steve Zahn
Toy is such a sucker for any tiny crumb of romance in a movie, it's so adorable.
Even the tiniest crumbs of love are worth something 😁❤❤
I think you mean the movie "Basic Instinct" where Sharon Stone did the scene with her legs.
All three will be dearly missed...
Needs a memorial... (.)(.)(.) RIP. 😢
Great show! ❤
Toy's emotions going all over the place with every scene
Just adds to this awesome cheesy masterpiece
Hannah would never look away at gorey scenes. She smiles deviously and welcomes them lol😂😂😂. This is Abby. 😊
Brubaker is just one of his aliases, and it’s a reference to the character Charles Brubaker from the 1977 thriller “Capricorn One.”
I’m sure it was mentioned but this film is based on “We Can Remember It for You Wholesome.” A short story written by Philip K.
Abby and Tori watching 'Robocop' would be great!
I think that at the time, it was one of the most expensive movies ever made, the practical effects are just fantastic.
Rachel Ticotin is also in Falling Down, an iconic/classic movie of counter culture with Michael Douglas. Please watch that one next
I saw this in the theater! I have watched it countless times and can recite all the lines. It was a great year for movies including Batman and Ghostbuster 2. .Good ppl watch this movie. That's all I have to say. Thank you guys!
Indeed it was a fun movie!
Theme tune is Jerry Goldsmith's best ever. He was responsible for the music on Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
We just recorded reactions to the first two Star Trek movies within the past couple of weeks. Absolutely amazing scores, for sure!

Toy: "That Was The Most Unpleasant Thing I've Seen"
Oh, don't worry, Toy, it gets worse
😂😂😂 lot of weird things here
John Carter from 2012, also about Mars.
@@allisterfiend_2112 I think they called Mars for Barsoom, so John Carter of Barsoom. 😊
Basic Instinct is the name of the movie with Sharon Stone you’re thinking of.
It's funny that you mentioned Starship Troopers a couple times because there was one actor in this movie that was in Starship Troopers. Michael Ironside. He was the man that lost his arms on the elevator. He played the part of the teacher that was also the sergeant in Starship Troopers.
The Sharon Stone movie that you were trying to come up with is another by Paul Verhoeven:
"Basic Instinct" (1992) w/ Michael Douglas
20:45 Something tells me that Toy definitely liked that part of the scene 😂🤣🤣
It took me several viewings to get a grasp on the plot, i think it is a great film now
i love this film!
Abbey and one of our other fabulous ladies have not seen Leon: the Professional yet !!!!! That's gotta happen
Awesome and VERY high pitched reactions to Total Recall, from Toy and Abby.
Toy and Abby made this classic movie even more enjoyable! :)
sorry for the squeals lol
You almost got it right, Toy. Not planet Vespa, planet Druidia. Still so very proud of you for reaching deep for that moment of recall.
Lol yes I was trying to get it out 😂😂😂😂😂 I said the wrong thing but thank you! 😁😁😁😁❤❤❤
Great reaction, guys ❤ I loved seeing your kitty cat 🐱
Excellent, here we go! I wasn't expecting this, well played 🏴🙂
Love the "High Pitched Sound" warning. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Abby is the first person I've heard comment on the connection between the fish and the people dying of suffocation.
im glad you picked up on this too!
Thank you ladies, fun reaction!
The storyline for this film is from the sci-fi author Phillip K. Dick. Here are some other films and TV series based on his works.

The Man in the High Castle (TV Series)
Electric Dreams (TV Series)
The Adjustment Bureau
A Scanner Darkly
Paycheck
Minority Report
Blade Runner

Loved the reactions y'all.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
"Look who's talking, Consider it a divorce, Screw you, See you at the party Richter" Puns overload!
Edit:
Toy - Tatted beauty,
I absolutely adore your big loving heart! Everyone around you must always want to give you big hugs! I know I would. . .my sweet beautiful friend! ❤🥰🤗😇
And yes, I often wish that I was that UA-cam pillow so that for once, a beautiful woman will hug ME for a change. Lol😢
You lovely ladies, and my 4/20 made this fun.
I laughed so hard every time they mention not to mess with your brain the first time I saw this - tripping! :P
I am right there with you!!! 420 every day 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤ and thank you so much for watching with us
These two are always entertaining as a reaction team! 👍🏻
6:59 C'mon Toy, say it...say it! "Something bad's about to happen." Oh, so close.
Hahahahaha 😁😁😁
You guys have GOT to watch the "Final Destination" series. Love your reactions! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching with us!
You could also watch Showgirls Directed by Paul Verhoeven.
or Hollow Man (2000)
You started the video with a comment about something being so CUTE.
Never expected that on a Total Recall video.
The Sharon Stone movie with the iconic leg crossing scene is Basic Instinct. Another Verhoeven film and classic imo🙂
