The photo of The Statlers, Emmy, and my hero, Tom T., all inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame the same night, will forever be etched into my memory! 💜💜💜
While I love Jimmy Fortune, I'm so partial to these older songs before Jimmy joined. It may be because I grew up on these songs. The Statlers were my mother's favorite group.
You're Right About That, Dan Mene. I Like The Oak Ridge Boys, Too. But To Me, They Only Have About Half (IF THAT MUCH), Of The Harmony That The Statler Brothers Had, If That Much.
@@chuckwilliam4746, So Did I. As A Matter Of Fact, The First Statler Brothers Music, That I Had, Was Two 8 Track Tapes That I Used To Listen To, Every Day, 3, 4, And 5 Times A Day. I Never Get Tired Of Listening To Them.
AT 83 i am late to this...my adoration of their work is solid..BUT ..a fondness foer Lew Dewitt should not disregard the amazing contribution of Jimmy Fortune.....I listen to this day....
VERY TRUE!!! Lew Was Exceptionally The Greatest And Best Tenor, That I've Ever Heard!! I Seen All 4 Of These Guys Back In 1980 Or 82, In Dothan, Alabama. That Had To Be One Of The Last Concerts That Lew Done With "The Statler Brothers." He May Have Done One Or Two More Concerts With Them, But He Couldn't Have Done Many More. Because "Elizabeth" Came Out, In 1983, I Think. They Wrote 95 To 99 Percent Of What They Sang. Harold And Don Reid, Are Two Dang Good Songwriters.
This is the one group which is THE definition of talent and country music. Each of their songs touches me in a way none other does..These men, including Jimmy and Lew, have shown the world how to harmonize and work together since 1955 and I still listen to them on almost a daily basis. ljkit RIP Lew, and enjoy a well deserved retirement guys.
No group authors emotions the way these Virginians could. I can believe they will be retired. I'm am a Virginian and I am proud to have them as my fellow Virginians.
I saw them live when I was a teenager with my parents, I will always remember their songs, thank you dad for playing their records and giving me the great memories, R.I.P dad.
One of my few regrets in life is not having the pleasure of seeing these fabulous men in person. Johnny and June and the Carter family are on the list too:( Music stinks with out them.Thank God for my vinyl
My beloved grandmother, rest her soul, took me, in 1972 when I was 7, to see Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three,CarlPerkins,The Carter Family"and"The StatlerBrothers, and it changed my life...God,I miss her soooo much
Lori and I just celebrated 10 years together. Song reminds me of her. She is ticked about all the names I could name, but she wanted me and I am glad she helped me find christ and lead me away from the sinful ways of my youth
@@LoveClassicMusic0205 I'm with you on Lew, such a lovely musical range, he could instantly change a song from common-place to a 'must play' astounding listen. Loved the guy.
everyone should listen to all those artists they are special in their own way Too many people are too limited in the kind of music they listen to not that I am not guilty myself but music has so much of a variance and why not try to listen to them all?
"There's Just One I Remember - Makes Me Feel Funny Down Inside - I'd trade 'em all for just an hour of Susan When She Tried..." I like Elvis' version the most, but this original version is superb!
Jimmy Fortune is great. When he sings Farside Banks of Jordon & The Wall iI. Know I will see my husband again. We were married almost forty years when agent orange from Vietnam finally took his life ten years ago. He left me his 1931 A-Model ( which I keep like new because he did) He told me to give it to my next husband if found someone to love like we did but I can't. I'm leaving it to our Goddaughter Chas when I finally join him on the Farside banks soon I hope I never expected it to be this long. Oi love my great niece and nephew and Chas so very much but this old Auntgranny is ready to cross. I know Perry ( Pepop) is waiting for me. Have a GODBLESSED life y'all I'm waiting for God to call me over there.
I personally like both Lew and Jimmy. I don't think either is better or worse than the other. Just a little different........... Just my opinion. .......
One of the Statlers remarked on an interview when they were auditioning people to take Lew's place, Jimmy was the first one they heard and they knew instantly, he was the one. But they kept interviewing people so as not to dash hopes and possiblyget into conflict with anyone..

Both Lew and Harold are now gone but they will not be soon forgotten by us die-hard Statler Brother fans
Lew Dewitt was an American treasure.
I agree! 😁
So was Jimmy Fortune
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
HE STILL IS!
Yes he was
I will Never Forget The Starter Brothers. So Sad that Harold is Gone.
Statler. I can't spell tonight.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ - loved them since the very beginning on johnny cash show. Rip Lew & Harold.
This was, and will be, the best quartet that ever lived! Believe it!
So good
You're Right About That, Dan Mene. I Like The Oak Ridge Boys, Too. But To Me, They Only Have About Half (IF THAT MUCH), Of The Harmony That The Statler Brothers Had, If That Much.
I prefer the ORB, but you are correct about the harmonies. I grew up on both of em, mom used to listen to the 8 Tracks all the time. :)

Dan I agree with you
Lew's high harmonies on the chorus send shivers down my spine. Such a talented singer, gone way too soon.
Totally agree. He had a unique voice.
I had forgotten how beautiful Lew sang til I heard him on this after all those years. Sad loss
Don and Lew made the Statler Brothers great. They were never quite the same after Lew had to leave the group.
Nobody sings it like the Statlers... their vocals and harmony are just out of this world... especially Lew Dewitt, he was very amazing, RIP
And now with Jimmy Fortune.
AT 83 i am late to this...my adoration of their work is solid..BUT ..a fondness foer Lew Dewitt should not disregard the amazing contribution of Jimmy Fortune.....I listen to this day....
Love all of these guys, but came here just to hear Lew.
Me too ❤
Lew was the best in my opinion we lose a great voice i will miss him
Nobody could ever replace Lew! Don’t care how good they are!
He has a certain “presence”!
Hello Jean
How are you doing today?
Always loved to listen to the high notes by Lew
Lew Dewitt, one of a kind. If you don't get emotional listening to Lew you're emotionless.
Malcolm Pattison agree
Great harmony.
Lew DeWitt ...❤
I got to meet Lew once...Such a gentleman .....I always thought he was the cutest too

Loved these guys ever since I was a kid and first heard "Flowers on The Wall" Their songs/harmony tug at my heart like no other artists.
My mom passed a few years ago and the Statler brothers were one of her favorite groups. Grew up listening to them and still love them to this day.
I feel that. I still have my mom, but there will come a time when hearing them makes me cry. I’m sorry for your loss.
How many of you have an old love like this? Basically the proverbial "The one that got away" That you think about all of the time.
Oh man, those harmonies are the best of any of their hits. And I had a Susan just like that 20 years ago. Nobody's fault but mine....
No group authors emotions the way these Virginians could. I can believe they will be retired. I'm am a Virginian and I am proud to have them as my fellow Virginians.
Will always and forever be the best and most talented.
Saw the Statler brothers with Lew Dewitt , fantastic show
Loved the Starlet brothers. Best of was the greatest
Them 4 had the best harmony of all time! They went on to do great things when Jimmy came to sing tenor! But these 4 were the best!

Susans of the world LOVE this song! Not Susie or Sue, but SUSAN!
I saw them live when I was a teenager with my parents, I will always remember their songs, thank you dad for playing their records and giving me the great memories, R.I.P dad.
They are the very best! I miss Harold already!
A FRIEND RECOMMENDED THIS TO ME AFTER A GIRL BROKE MY HEART. THANKS FOR THE BEAUTIFUL, SOULFUL SONG! STULL CAN MAKE MY 👁 WATER .

what a singer that guitar player was unbelievable.
bernadette pynn agree, he is the late Lew Dewitt... people say he is the most known tenor voice of Country music
I have always loved the Statler Brothers.
Beautiful
This song is so true...Every Susan I knew was very nice to me & other people...What a nice name!
Wonderful quartet.
Lori and I just celebrated 10 years together. Song reminds me of her. She is ticked about all the names I could name, but she wanted me and I am glad she helped me find christ and lead me away from the sinful ways of my youth

Jaime... 35 years later and I still love her.
I love this song
Until I listened to Dailey & Vincent's cover album of the Statler Brothers, I had no clue who they were. All there songs are awesome.

Absolutely amazing! Love these guys.
Still loving them and it's 2022..

DWIGHT
I agree
Back in the days when Don had hair on his head. Lol. But then again, if I had to put up with Harold all these years, I'd lose my hair, too.
congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! may the both of you have many happy years together.
I had always liked this song
I once knew a woman named Susan. She made great chicken. There'll never be another like Susan when she fried.
🤣
😂🤣😂B.W.
I remember a concert years ago I wish they have a reunion concert
The Statler Brothers last concert was October 26, 2002 in Salem, VA when they retired.
I wonder if they still think about Lew often. They probably miss him
I know I do. They were never quite the same after Lew had to leave the group. I did like Jimmy Fortune's song Elizabeth, though.

This one is for you Kimmie. I meant it when i sang it. I might not have married you, but you were one of the best

Did you know that Elvis did this song too...both versions are great!
Larga vida a los Statler! Como dijo uno por ahi, DeWitt y Jimmy son diferentes, pero sin lugar a dudas DeWitt fue el mejor ;) Jaja
