ANOTHER GREAT ALP: ua-cam.com/video/2u_QlvhpRSw/v-deo.html This video here is not a REVIEW. Just an escape and watch video. Meaning, just hang out with me for 10 minutes and enjoy the video! I quickly sold the other 2 Alps that I harvested for tiny loss on each. Not bad considering I took a bracelet and a case back from them! Strapcode ($90ish with ship)+ OEM bracelet ($155 value) + Crown ($60ish) + case back ($90 value) + base watch $900 = $1295. So my $1300 dollar guess in video was pretty accurate! -Falling
I need to see if my other Seikoluxe dealer has any of the SPB243s in, as it's been since September since I was there when they didn't have them (many other Alpinists though!). I was at the other area Seikoluxe dealer the other day, and they only had the US $2,900 limited old school Alpinist.
This has to be the slickest Alpinist out there. The money side of things looks questionable, especially when your better half could watch the video. Hehe. Well in.
The bezel could actually be used, use the sun and watch hands to find North, adjust bezel and you have a basic compass. Ok you need the sun, and the know how, but it can be used.
I'm the guy who bought 089 so he could make that huge " profit!😊. Now that piece is going for nearly $2500. On line, but only one on Chrono 24 which means a large number of people are keeping theirs. In including yours truly!
Nice Video!👍Beautiful watch... The compass is not a complication. By complications we only mean what belongs to timekeeping, for example the date or second hand. But yes, you could also use the compass to measure time like the bezel on a diving watch.😜
Oh yeah. My only issue with the sarb017 is that it doesn’t have a double lume pip at the 12, or a missing one at the 3. For a watch that’s meant to be for orientation and has a compass, seems abit of an oversight.
Great video! I love the addition of the signed crown and the slimmer caseback. These are absolutely the two changes I’d make to my ghost Alp. I’m glad you showed us it could be done! Side Rant: I’m not a fan of strapcode bracelets. They’re way too expensive considering… 1) Overly protruding male end links. Seriously, does anyone want this? 2) Links that are too thick and don’t taper to match the proportions of the watch. 3) The insistence on enormous diver claps on bracelets for smaller watches. If anyone has tried the Strapcode SARB033 oyster bracelet, it has examples of all 3. I’m glad better options are starting to become available elsewhere, but it’s annoying that stapcode can’t get it right.
I agree! The good about the strapcode is the comfort and they got the taper right. Male endlinks and divers clasp is a fail. Compared to the OEM oyster the strapcode jubilee is more comfy. Today I'm wearing it on the OEM bracelet.
@@EscapementWatch Thank you for sharing your experience with the SC Alp jubilee. I’m happy to hear it’s better than some of my past experiences with SC, especially regarding the all-important taper and comfort.
Great video brother. I have the alpanist gmt. I faced the same dilemma of the bubble caseback. I just wish I can find a caseback without having to buy the watch. I'm so broke
Excellent work sir! I’ve been looking forward to seeing this video as I’m keen to do something similar with my 197 Mountain Glacier. The 1mm depth reduction is so worth it, as the 017 wasn’t a thin piece to begin with! 😁👍
The non-limited Alpinists are already overpriced, when you consider you could get an old SARB for 250-300 dollars. But these limited editions are a different level in Seiko's brazen price policy of late.
I have a SPB201J1 limited edituons like yours and i want the bracelet that you didn't use. From what watch did it come? Do you know if it's possible to buy a new one? Thanks guys
Green was not the first alpinist and should have no relationship to alpinist line. Black and white were in 1959. But I get it. Many first got introduced to alpinist via sarb017 and TGV so to them that is alpinist. But it 100% is not. Still amazing I just bought a brand new Sarb017 so I'm a fan.
Watching this with my SPB245 Green 1959 Laurel Alpinist on my wrist FT. Great build bro! When are you getting your hands on the SSC813 brother? I have it preordered already... Haha
@@EscapementWatch yeah I agree. They’re so annoying and turn off their comments on UA-cam otherwise we could give them feedback. What do you think of the male end links on the super? I like the taper looks abit rolex like. Wish they sorted the clasp. Overall your watch looks amazing
I'm not a fan of the male end links but when wearing it, it's actually not a deal breaker. It looks pretty good on wrist. But obviously if they make a female end link version I would buy the end links and swap it out.
Rather inspiring video. I immediately ordered the SARB017 crown with stem and switched. But I noticed, that the gasket on the SARB stem is a little bit smaller/narrower than the OEM one in the SPB. Did you pressure test the watch after your mods? The case back is somewhat harder to come by. That is, without buying an entire SARB017.
@@EscapementWatch Wow, thanks for the fast response! 100m would be sufficient for me. Did you switch the gaskets, or did you reach the 100m with the SARB gasket?
In case somebody (besides me) wonders: As I took out the crown and stem to switch the gaskets, I noticed, that the new gasket had merged into the exact shape, as the OEM one in the SPB. I suspect it was just a matter of „not yet been pressed into the seating“ with the new one.
A bit too Frankenstein to me, but I get the desire to mix the best of each. I don't dislike the Strapcode clasp at all (I have the Super-O). I never even noticed the gap in bracelets until your video, and still don't care. It has no impact on day to day use for me. I still love my SPB089, even though I could have sold it. If the PRX Powermatic had been out when the SPB089 was at the top of pricing (it's fallen below 4 figures finally per Watchcharts), I might have considered it. I don't know any other watches I like as much in the price range, including the new Ginza model.
@@MrVasaldo I agree it does look a lot like it and that is why I like it. In different tones of light it can look grey, glacier green or blue and some times in between those three colors. But this spb201 only has grey tone color.
I agree with your Alpinist being very nice but still don’t like the X. For the money you spent you could have gotten a Christopher Ward C65 Trident 🔱 and have money left over and a better watch.

Yes the 243 is a looker. Make sure to see it in the flesh!

Got the 089 myself but I've always admired this one for its flat grey dial.

You can also replace the glas so you have no cyclops eye 😂 what some people prefer.
I am oké with my “stock” 201 😊
That was a fun video! You now have the best looking LE of 1 by far. That's dedication
I appreciate that!
Indeed a Seikopath haha!!!
Greetings from Greece!
Awesome watch!!!
Ditto, greetings from Greece.

Loving your obsession (completely normal BTW). The perfect watch is obtainable and thank you Seiko for giving us so much depth to play around with.

Super cool video! See-through case backs are cool and all, but I do agree that I would rather have a slimmer watch than a see through case back.

wow, what a dial! Love this review... but now, I must fly... :-)
Enjoy!
@@EscapementWatch many thanks...
Hi FT, great video. Making a good profit for the purpose of upgrading one's own passion in acquiring new time peices is always good.
Well said!
Love this, amazing combination!
Glad you like it!
Awesome Strapcode bracelet, but very claspy. To my mind, real 'Alpinist' must be green.))

i have an spb117 on the way! i am so pumped, go alpanist!
Wow ... now THAT'S dedication for ya!
Thanks for sharing your passion!

awesome mod buddy! insanely lovely one! great video!
Thanks a ton!

Not sure, but should be hopefully soon!
My SPB155 on an Uncle Seiko President bracelet is the best Alpinist in the world.......But this one's sexy as hell
I didn’t know strapcode did this bracelet. I bought the previous Angus jubilee for my sarb017 and it’s far too big, heavy, thick and uncomfortable lol
The angus jubilee from strapcode was a cruel money grab joke from them.

Great watch! Was it difficult switching out the clasp?
Not at all. 2 spring bars.
Great video as always. 👍
able to do a review on the new spb259 as well?
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately Kavar Jewellers SOLD out of SPB259 before they even landed so it wont be coming on the channel.

You can swap out the gaskets on the crown if you are worried. I did water pressure test it and it passed 100 m

Awesome watch, awesome video. Another unlimited limited edition.
It sure is!
i thought i would like it but in the metal the dial felt too cold and boring
Black date mod would’ve been the cherry on the cake
It was considered but for the dial color I decided on white.
that thing is gorgeous.
Looks awesome better than the original.
I have the brown one and loving it! Btw does the second hand wobble/shake when you adjust the time? Its bothering me
Not really. Only when you go backwards as you set the time, which I don't recommend too often over 5min of over shoot.
@@EscapementWatch didn’t know this. Thanks!
Hello from Australia - if I get. 201 could I use the signed crown on my 017 and swap it over?
Yes
I actually wish I had a smaller wrist so the Alpinist would suit me 😢
Unless you have an 8.5inch wrist it will look fine. Nice and classic. Like a 36mm wears on me.
It's perfect!
that prospex X is just polarizing......no getting around it. from a sarb017 owner
I prefer it over the "DIASHOCK 23 JEWELS" on the 017
Seiko Spb197 the unlimited European edition to the best alpinist ever made this far. Stainless steel bracelet, mesmerizing dial and under $800 😎
this spb201 look a lot like the spb197 which look a lot like the spb199...honnestly i don't know the difference :)

2021 Units were made. Not sure if any local european boutiques have more stock tho.
Its got to be the new rock face as the best seiko.

Awesome vid like always! haha but man OCD much?! :) haha
hahah when it comes to alpinists...yes!
Where did you find the case back?
Disregard, I asked before I watched the whole video.
hahaha no problem!~
Waiting for the review Seiko SSC813 🐼 from you 👌😊😆😍
Hasn't landed for me yet. Hopefully soon!
So anything left over for me to buy?!
Sorry both sold quick. Sarb017 less then 24 hrs. I had possession
i don't like the S crown i feel it looks cheap

Looks like you’re a really busy man...
you have no idea.
nice mod!
Thanks bro!
Your OCD is impressive
Just get the Ginza instead!😜
I saw one. Its great but not for me! Wont be coming on the channel as it sold out too quickly.
Nice watch buddy but i still prefer the 39mm Seiko SRPH13K! Its stunning...
