  • The Lynx was a guitar produced in the 1990s by Hohner and they never got the credit they deserved. Here's a little bit of history, the story behind how I got mine and some much needed cleaning and repairs. Also, a bit of noise to show you what it sounds like...

Whenever I see a slanted neck pickup and a slanted fingerboard it reminds me of either Hamers or the Hohner Revelation series

A lot of Hohner guitars were designed in the UK by Alan Entwistle & Trev Wilkinson when they ran Hohner UK which also had Hohner Guitar Research & Custom Shop in Wales. Of course both those guys went seperate ways when Hohner closed their UK branch. Both guys are stil active in the guitar scene with Wilkinson Guitar Parts and Entwistle Pickups & Revelation Guitars. THere used to be the whole Alan Entwistle story about his time at Hohner etc on the Entwistle pickups site but theyve updated the site and it doesnt seem to be there anymore.

Oh wow!! I didn't know that, thanks for the extra info!
I really quite like Entwhistle pickups - I've got a Darkstar on an Ibanez, and an LTD viper loaded with X3s. They sound great, especially for the price.

I'm a big fan of Entwistle pickups too and Alan Entwistle even took the time to email me personally when i was enquiring. He was based in China working on the Revelation brand guitars. i'm a Huge hohner fan and have got about 10 different models that they made in the 80's and 90's. I started buying them about 10 years ago when nobody realised how good they were and you could pick them up for about £60. Nowadays people have realised that you're getting a good quality guitar for your money so theyve gone up, although some people only want the big brand names of course. Prince played a Hohner Tele, so if theyre good enough for Prince then theyre good enough for anybody. If your wiring is still original, this page has some good info about them. I've got one that needs rewiring as the originals had a push pull pot with a thing called a claim vintage blend circuit. Mine's been cut out, but i do have a couple which i managed to get from Hohner some years ago as they still had them in stock and several models had them installed. I'll get around to doing it eventually. Mine's a floyd rose too but some had the Steinberger KB trem, which generally had a manufacturing issue and the trem pins bent. This is a good site for Hohner models including the Lynx if youre interested in Hohners. hohnerguitars.de.tl/ST-Lynx.htm

I always find it weird that Hohner make guitars. My acoustic bass is a Hohner. I think of them as being an accordion and harmonica maker.

Also.....I used to have those Select pickups in my Strat. I think EMG originally designed them for Hohner for their headless guitars back in the 80s. You can still buy them from Stew Mac.

That makes sense and it's cool that they're still being made. I really like how balanced they sound and how totally 80's :-)
