- Aside from Marvel and DC comics, there were many production houses with brilliant illustrators and writers. Some of them later joined the big shots in the comic industry after serving for these smaller yet vibrant production houses. One such was Top Cow Production, a partner studio of Image comics. It was founded by Marc Silvestri in 1992 and had artists like Turner and David Finch, who later worked for DC and Marvel. Top Cow productions have given us brilliant comic book series like Cyberforce, Darkness, and smash hits like Witchblade. The storylines were so good that they had crossovers with Marvel and DC. Yes, you heard me right, and also not one but on many occasions. There were dozens of cool characters with badass looks and powers, which will surely get your eyes hooked on them for quite some time. So, in today's video, we will discuss the top 10 Top Cow characters with interesting back stories and scintillating powers.

Sara Pezzini is definitely my favorite. Witchblade was such a cool series back then. But Velocity and the Darkness were also awesome. The latter even had his own video games
I've never read the series, when I learned about it I got turned off by just how much "cheesecake" there was
Love topcow they need to make cinematic universe . my favorite is obviously jackie estacado the darkness
I hope you do more of these to show people all the amazing comics outside of d.c. and marvel. You may be able to do some of characters within those universes as there are a number of them are just as good if not better than the characters they constantly use!!
we need a topcow cinematic universe
Hopefully not made by Netflix.
Anyone remember Wildcats,Spawn and Savage Dragon cartoons ??? LOL.
Preferably as mature rated as they are.
For real
@@brucenatelee Hollywood gonna try to water that all down
The Darkness,Weapon Zero and Pitt were my favorite Image titles.
Love weaponzero
WOW.I forgot about Pitt,it was a good title. The reason why the comics of Pitt were SO is because Dale Keown was in a rock band and devoted most of his time to said band. Learned this from an interview he did in Wizard.
If I'm not mistaken, Jackie Estacado's first appearance was in Witchblade issue 10, and his series was launched one or two months later.
No love for "Hunter/Killer"? It had a few good characters, like Ellis and Samantha Argent. Also, Tom Judge from "Universe" and "Artifacts" was another great character.
I’ve felt like this channel has had robots doing the narration, this sounds almost human. Best one yet.
Had the same feeling. I suspect he wrote the script, then tried AI voices and now paid a fiverr voice artist to read the script. TBH his content is not bad, just the voices have been, well, overly robotic.
I've bought a few issues of Aphrodite IX. I really couldn't help it, the art is so beautiful. As I think about it, Aphrodite IX and Lorna Dane/Polaris both have green hair.
Rip Claw was always my favorite one from Top Cow. And Witchblade, The Darkness, Velocity....
Micheal Turner was and will always be one of favourite artists
To quote Bruce Greene, “You can show that!”
A fellow traveler I see
I discovered Top Cow Comics not long after Image Comics began --particularly when I discovered The Witchblade. There was something in Michael Turner's artwork that stood out from the rest of the artists in his design of characters, particularly women =). I mimicked his designs in my attempt at becoming an artist while I was in high school. Those were the days...
Meh, I didn't like Michael Turner at all until the latter half of his run on Fathom. It was like all his flaws disappeared when he came back from his first fight with cancer. Soulfire was dope. RIP
Bloodsport is by far my favorite character than again his amnesia and nano tech power make him a really good character
You mean Bloodshot?
Vin Diesel fucked it up
@@lordblood380 he didn't, he definitely acted like he was years younger, it's just the beauty of that irony, a buff man in his 50s playing someone who's 18-25(the average age for someone to sign up for a military service), it's like Samuel L Jackson and Will Smith all over again
My favorite are Ian Notthingham, Ballistic, Sarah Pezzini, Aphrodite IX and Heatwave. I really love Hunter/Killer as well and I think it has still untapped potential. We definitely needs a 16+ Top Cow cinematic universe. Please Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins, make it happen !
#RIPMichaelTurner
RipClaw, WitchBlade & Velocity are definitely my favorites of this Universe!!!!
So many underrated characters.
Finally top cow getting some recognition and praise I gotta find and start reading their comics or get a job at their publishing company
“Lost his virginity to a female police officer when he was only 14” yeah I don’t think I can think of a more over the top and unbelievable sexual conquest to establish your character. 😂
1.contract killer and mob boss you mean
2.she's one that deserves retribution
3.I think there was an anime series about her
4.he looks ready for war
5.it's as if she's the Catwoman to his Batman
6.talk about fleetfooted
7.huh, as if we're looking at a black suited Spider-Man story
8.you play with his fire, you're gonna get burned
9.a true modern age Virgin Mary if there ever was one
10.as crazy as her namesake

The art work is magnificent
I always loved killjoys design
Image and Top Cow were my favorites. There was LONG in the works The Darkness movie and a few others but I think they have been in production hell for years.
I been hearing about a witchblade movie for almost 15 years. 😳😳😳
Met a guy at second cup over winnies in Montréal , he was designing the witchblade gauntlet. That was 1997.
@@76queball63 Yep yep. Tis true. Hell even a young banderas was set to play Jackie at one point
WETWORKS needs a movie as well 🦄🦄!!!!!
@@mrugly73 Grail !
We need a part 2 excellent video I love image and top cow comics
Me too.I really miss these super-hero titles. And comics in general from the 90s.
I didn't know about half these characters! I've got some shopping to do!
Use to love reading with blade and darkness especially when the teamed up together also loved fathom and gen 13
I can't believe that Diehard and Killrazor weren't on this list.
Diehard is actually from Extreme Studios/Youngblood made by Rob Liefeld
"Aphrodite" is pronounced "a-fro-di-tea". Arguably funny......
Yeah I'm also pretty sure Pezzini is pronounced Pezz-ee-knee.
Ripclaw was pretty cool. I had a few of his comics back in the day..
Impressive list
My fav is velocity 10,000miles/s is crazy while she’s still holding back not to destroy the planet with her speed. She’s badass bruh
Pezzini is pronounced Pah-ZEE-nee. Also, if we're going by the name of the Greek goddess, Aphrodite is pronounced Af-ro-DITE-ee. I'm just sayin'...
Hehehe topcow the not censored comics that are great
Image comics was epically awesome. Took comic art to new level
Yeah,Finch, love his art.Met him at a con, once and he's very short, but, mad COOL. Talked to him for a while, but, didn't want to push it,there were others who wanted his attention also.
Nice thumbnail
Love top cow and image!!!
We need more Top Cow
Please also make a video on Dark Horse Comics Characters 🙏
Actually Cyber Force was published on October 1st 1992.
Image comics was born from the best artists and writers from Marvel comics wanting to own the rights to their created characters. Those creator's companies (Wildstorm, Top Cow, etc) made up Image comics. It was a FU to Marvel. Most of the artists were not affiliated with DC. Image comics main downfall was because of late releases for some of their main titles, Wetworks, being a prime example. The original run of Image titles is absolutely amazing!! Spawn, WildCATs, Savage Dragon, Cyber Force, Youngblood, Gen13, to name a few. Incredible artwork and storytelling made Image comics highly sought after.
Image comics today is one of the best comic publishers. The walking dead, SAGA, black science, invincible, radiant black, rogue Sun, Astro City, paper girls, East of West, murder Falcon, Jupiter's Legacy, Gideon Falls, you name it.
Yeah,666RobX,the comics were LATE because the creators were SO busy spending all the money they made, going on cruises, buying houses, etc, etc,in interviews they said they walked around comic-cons with $ 10,000 dollars in cash in their pockets and 6 figure checks. The reason Wetworks was late is because the creator of the title, his sister got deathly sick and he went back to the Philipines to help her.
@@mttylerdurden9 I stopped reading/collecting comics hard-core probably around 2010. Divorce, haha! Couldn't afford 200-300 a month on comics anymore. I do know of some of the titles you mentioned. Obviously, The Walking Dead. Haha!
@@powerbad696 Yea I know what happened with Portacio. It was very unfortunate!
@@666RobX Yes,it was, very SAD.I forgot his name. Very GOOD artist too.
I'd just like to point out that Image was the brainchild of Marc Silvestri AFTER he left Marvel to which he had no desire to return to. Many of the other artists and writers and editors also appreciated the freedom of expression allowed by Image and Top Cow, something which was frowned upon by larger comic companies. The creators of all the awesome characters were especially grateful to not have to tone down their creations so that they could conform to the norm. Still, I think its a tragedy that there's no Image and/or Top Cow cinematic universe.
The first one sounded like a Spawn clone (don't mean literal clone - for any pedantic types). I mean same base character, just substitute Hell Spawn for 'Darkness' and give an extra power. Same basic idea for the protagonist.
I love this list and this universe. Top Cow is the shit and so are it’s characters.
that was comic book , love darkness a lot
You after hear about top cow comic they are pretty cool😊
I think i used to own the first comic for Cyberforce.
Me too.
Top 10 Really Good Canadian Cartoons Better than the heavy hitters from Cartoon Network Nickelodeon and Disney Channel
Magdalena was co-created by Joe Benitez
I wish in these videos they would label what issues the images are from
Image comics are far superior to modern Marvel.
they used to be, the artist of savage dragon made one of his characters die of Covid because he was so angry at unvaxxed people lmaoo
And modern DC
No.
Way superior
Make a video on weaponzero
Excellent video however its pronounced Sara Pezeeeeeneeee
with a little less elongation on the 2nd and 3rd e
Boy almost every character gets cybernetics Aphrodite IX is the ultimate weapon & seductress if she wanted to she could give Black Widow a run for her money hell she likely make Natasha jealous because she can do things Natasha can't especially with her pheromones. As for Cassandra aka Ballistic I read in the comics her bf wasn't jealous of her she was trying to break up with him I guess she saw him as toxic but he didn't like that so he had her beaten up he especially made she her arm was destroyed. After she was given cybernetics she confronted her ex & told him that he wasn't looking as good as he use to be he was putting on weight & losing his hair. While she even with her cybernetics still looks hot.
Please react do a video on Image's other creator owned companies especially the studios owned by Todd McFarlane & Erik Larsen.
Here's my favorite comic book companies
Vertigo/DC Comics
Todd McFarlane Productions/Image Comics
Dark Horse Comics
IDW Publishing
Marvel Comics
i was born on the same day as the darkness
What about Zealot?
gawdamn silvestri can draw cute girls :)
No love for Cyblade? 😂
Um, Aphrodite IX (9) actually debuted in Aphrodite #0 which was released with the November 1996 edition of Wizard Magazine. Your narrator claimed that its debut was in 2000. You may want to double check your information before making your video. This isn't the first time that I've noticed this channel misrepresent information, in the TMNT Armaggon Origins your narrator claimed that Armaggon was in the TMNT Tournament Fighters game (which he was), they went on to say that TMNT Tournament Fighters debuted in 1987. The SNES version of the game (which was the version that Armaggon was in) wasn't even released until September 4th, 1993, in North America. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but accuracy regarding information when you release a documentary style video is vital. I'm really curious how many other videos have been misrepresented when it comes to the information that is given.
Other than that issue, I thoroughly enjoyed Aphrodite IX, I always wondered how many other people enjoyed it. Wizard Magazine always seemed to be a good launching point for new IP's to be released. It's sad that Wizard Magazine isn't around anymore. :(
It's "Afro-die-tee", "Pe-zine-ee" and "BEAR-es-ford." Otherwise, good video.
A cavity in a tooth. Not his lower jaw.
So everyone is spawn/venom
Sound like that's your opinion
spawn should have been number 1 on this list
Spawn is an Image comic, but not a Top Cow comic (there was that medieval Spawn/ Witchblade comic but... (handwaving).)

AphroditE. way you say it, sounds like the name of a virus or something. or also closely related to a troglodyte.
Yeah, no.
Lol love my inides but these are all terrible
These comics were truly, and might I add, FAMOUSLY terrible. I just came to see the comments, but was suprised to see a few fans here. My guess is that they are either a) too young to have read truly good comics, and find this horrible stuff to be good by comparison of whatever era they grew up with or b) ARE old enough to have lived through this stuff, and just have the worst taste imaginable. Either way, may the gods have mercy on their poor, wretched souls. 😢
I had to come back to say: to any young (or older) people reading, please take my other comment with a grain of salt - I did take a moment to realize how much fondness I have for some comics that are considered pretty terrible, so if you really like Top Cow comics, more power to you. I might talk crap about it, but then I again I absolutely loved old 90's era Ghost Rider comics (which when I go back to read them, they are... pretty cheesy. Groan.) So... you know, don't let anyone shame you into not liking something (even if it's really awful 😋).
@@kellybraille I read lots of these they weren't good. There was one or two I liked not on this list and cant think of. I mean there are so many great indies now though. Something is killing the children. Noctara. Grim. Brzrkr. Dunes ok. We only find them when they are dead. I like house of slaughter but can see how others might not. The nice house on the lake. Ice creme man. Step by bloody step is ok. Stillwater. Hellboy. Barbaric. Radiant black. Canto. Old but I'm reading the boys and saga. Even dc black label is killing it. Mostly horror adult books.
@@kellybraille hey I agree everyone has different taste and more power to ya. Just talking about me personally I didn't like most of these. If you did great. You probably don't like some i do. Most things are subjective.. just saying if you want to read great indies in my opinion read boom, image, aftershock etc.
