Glad I went to sea 1957 to 1965, no passports needed for shore, in port up to a week, no containers..yet! THE good old days!
I have to agree with you. Was a radio officer in the 70s, mainly on general cargo ships, which meant loads of time exploring ashore, sometimes a whole week in B. Aires, Santos, Lagos, Durban...
My dad went to sea in 1957 too.
As a future marine engineer, it's thrilling to watch these🔥🔥💯
Been in the Merchant 41 years 3 to go 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Is it worth joining?
My dad joined the merchant navy in 1943,he was only 15 and sailed into the war.
Did my firefighting at Warsash in the early 70's.
Great. Tks a lot
I'm hopfully joing the Royal Fleet Auxiliary soon. I can't wait!
Al final, solo se va a necesitar a los ingenieros (para reparar las máquinas). Que los buques se van a conducir ellos solos. :-)
tax free meaning the company doesn't deduct tax but the employee if a uk resident still has to pay tax on the income..
❤❤

I WOULD LOVE TO WORK IN MERCHANT NAVY
Im 41 and would like to join but looking at this episode it looks like they only employ younger people for the officer cadet training. Is this true?
I was 29 when i got a officer cadet contact, and i had a buddy who was 37 when he got one. Only way you will know is to ask the company/acadamy :)
I know for sure Great Lakes Maritime Academy has no age limitations
I am doing a cadetship at the min, 45 year old

Ok White Master Mariner...I can appreciate your attitude, but for me, I am already a mature man who has tried to get on board a ship to sail for several years. But, the closed nature of the business has kept that from happening. In fact, if I have any years left, I would like to spend them at sea. So I am not the typical person you are talking about. So, again, if you have any contacts or information to give...let's hear it.
No, not really.
I'm just 12 and I pledge I will go in merchant navy and old man don't give ur shitty advices
Ankush Gupta Hi ankush. I am 15 and I also want to work in merchant navy...Nice to meet ya..
Did you do it?
Why the hell should their pay be tax free?
Because they get paid a poor wage for time served and more importantly are typically outside the UK for more than half the year.
@@dannyfeller7034 So what? They'll receive a state pension, use the NHS etc. They should pay tax like everyone else.
@@johntate5050 so do Brits working in Dubai, they pay no tax and can still use the NHS, etc when they come back to the UK.
@@shaykh_Mahboob two wrongs don't make a right.
@@johntate5050 most politicians and rich people don't pay their taxes fella. You'd be surprised how many people earning 100k a year plus dont pay their fair share. The system is rigged for poor people to stay poor.
