Great demo, many thanks! I am fascinated by this sublimation process. So much I can do - wood, stones, metal, glass, T shirts, etc. You explained it very well, and your voice is so soothing, I could listen all day. Thank you for no music!!! Question: These printers are pricey. Any cheaper printers for same function? Tip: Don't buy Goo Gone. Its like Acetone. It mars plastic by making it opaque. It is very pricey. Instead buy cheap Mineral Spirits or Paint Thinner. This removes all gummy tape residues, plastic price tag gum, and any gummy residue left behind when you remove food labels from glass jars. All gone fast. Cloth or cotton ball + paint thinner, not paper towel. Use a paper towel and alcohol to remove paint thinner greasiness, then soap and water and voila! Sparkling item free of gummy grease. Tip: If anyone wants to drill holes in glass it is easy. Do it before sublimation. Buy a diamond drill bit that is for making holes so will look like a hole saw. Use your drill. Start at an angle so bit does not skip. Spray water during and before drilling,. In 5 seconds, you have a smooth hole thru glass or ceramic. Nice for making planters out of ceramic bowls too.
These are beautiful! You have a great eye for photography. I have a stack of these trivets that I can’t wIt to make some with my grand babies on them for my kids. I’ve seen where others have made these with ceramic tiles and want to try that as well. I’m very new to sublimation but I can see where it can be very fun to work with. Thanks for the tutorial.
I really liked your very informative sstep by step video, know I know what I did wrong on my previous attempts. Have you done one using Cricut Infusiable Ink sheets? I do not have sublimination products so I like using the infusible ink sheets to decorate. I am still very new to the process.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I think I saw in another comment that this does not work with the Cricut Infusible ink. The products I used in the video are the best for the process. I have both of these projects in my home and they are holding up well. Best of luck in your future projects.
@@sojo_dfunnytalker Yes, you can purchase the Oracle 651 from Amazon, I listed the link in the description below the video. Also, some craft stores offer it in 12" x 12" squares, just make sure it's Oracle 651 and not regular vinyl. As far as the glass goes I don't have a source for the one I used as it was something I had in my craft stash. Hope this helps.
you do not need special spray a bottle of water with a few drops of dish soap spray the surface apply slide around and when its placed using a credit card/scraper to push all the water out and bubbles leave it to dry a little and does same thing but using vinyl for 12 years
Enjoyed this but this is sublimating on vinyl vs directly on glass. You can also buy glass that you can sublimate on directly. 💗 to see a video on that. Thanks!
But the glass that you can already sub on is way more expensive then this way. But you can't just sub on just glass never works that way. You can use lamaite sheet too but... on glass that hard to do
My personl preference would be to use it as decrative only. However, since the image is on the back you could use it as a cutting board and wipe clean with a cloth. I wouldn't recommend placing anyting hot on it as it may reactivate the sublimation ink and alter the image.
I would say yes. I think someone else left a comment saying she tried another brand and it didn't work. Of course you could try a sample to see the results. If they do please share your results here. Good luck.
I didn't see any problems with my project until recently. It does seem to look a little foggy but that 2 years in. I think the 651 Oracal vinyl is key to the success of this project.
@@PoppyHillDesignsnow I’ve been told that if you use thermal laminating sheets as opposed to the Orcal 651🤷♀️ I want to try to do it, but I don’t wanna sell it to somebody and have them come back to me a few months down the road and complain about it

@@PoppyHillDesignshave your turned fuzzy or like the image is fading? I’ve heard several people that have said this? Thanks
Lovely 🥰. You have inspired me with both of your projects - Thank you
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Awesome Result 👍
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@PoppyHillDesigns definitely, can I get the materials from Amazon or you can suggest a better place to purchase.

I have found that the design will fade within a year. Have you had any issues after an extended time?
You said "trivet" at the end - can these Dollar Tree glass pieces be used as an actual trivet - straight from the oven or stove top??? That'd be nice!
Unfortunately no, as this would activate the sublimation ink and destroy the image.
Thank you for the video. Appreciate that! are the prints papers regular or sublimation paper?
I used sublimation paper for this project.
@@PoppyHillDesigns thank you. And ofcourse with sublimation inks. 🤓
I would like to know does the vinyl peel from the glass after many washes. Where did you get the glass with a bevel edge? Lovely
Beautiful Results. Where did you get your square beveled glass piece, if you don’t mind sharing.
Thanks Darlene, I'm very pleased with it. I had the beveled glass for a while and don't remember where I got it.
Darlene you can check out some of the stained glass shops one I use Anything in Stained Glass, hope this helps!
Very Nice Thank you
Do you mirror the image?
On the $Store on did you put the vinyl on rough side or the smooth side?
Smooth side.

Is this ok to use as a cutting board after? Or just a trivet for hot pans/dishes?
My personl preference would be to use it as decrative only. However, since the image is on the back you could use it as a cutting board and wipe clean with a cloth. I wouldn't recommend placing anyting hot on it as it may reactivate the sublimation ink and alter the image.
Does it have to be oracle 651, or can you use any white permanent vinyl?
I would say yes. I think someone else left a comment saying she tried another brand and it didn't work. Of course you could try a sample to see the results. If they do please share your results here. Good luck.
Your oracle 651 was gloss? Would matte Oracle look ok?
I have used both and both work great however, I prefer the matte
So, the printed image actually "bleeds" through the white vinyl? I often think of vinyl as being "waterproof" and not permeable.
When heated to the correct temperature sublimation ink turns into a gas, this chemical reactions allows the ink to be absorbed by the vinyl.
@@PoppyHillDesigns know that I finally understood.
Where did u find that clear beveled glass
I had that glass for a while and unfortunately don't remember where I purchased it.
@@PoppyHillDesigns thank you I can't find them at a decent price or they are either thin or sharply edged
I have some white vinyl that is not Oracal 651 Vinyl can it still be used?
I don't know. I've only used the Oracal 651.
@@PoppyHillDesigns guess i will try and let you know
the picture came out vibrant but the sticky side sort of melted and distorted, shame cause i have alot of it.
@@FkNutZ2 Well, at least you tried it, pity it didn't work out. There must be something in the 651 vinyl that makes this technique work.
@@FkNutZ2 what brand did you use? I too want to try using the vinyl I have that's not Oracal 651. TIA
I’ve been told that after about 3-4 months the image starts to fade or get foggy!! Is this true???
