  • The 2024 Brickyard 400 marks the return of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval for the first time in four years and also marking the 30th year since the inaugural event. For the vast majority of NASCAR fans there seems to be a ton of optimism and excitement heading into an event only four years ago many wanted removed from the schedule. So why is there such a disparity in opinion in this time? We want to look at it here. The outlook for the Brickyard 400 has changed.

    Watching practice right now and the cars look so good on the oval! Very glad to see this race back. Almost 200 into the corners too. About 30 mph drop of speed in the corners too, a little more as the tires wear. I think there might actually be passing too because handling is going to matter, and oddly enough, I think the shifting might actually help in the passing (a lot of cars are downshifting into 1 and 3).

Just because it's not constant side by side, beating and banging, or isn't in a superspeedway pack doesn't make it boring. Strategy would be way better without stage cautions though.

    I'm going to be there at Indy this weekend, but not every race has to be a banger of a race. I enjoy strategy races as well, but seeing Nascar Cup cars go around the oval will be awesome either way. We as NASCAR fans don't really know what we want most of the time. I have been a NASCAR fan for 25 years and these same arguments about what we need to change and what is a good race, etc have always been talked about. Not every race needs to be side by side, closest finish in history to make them special. You can have pack racing, 1.5 mile side by side racing and strategy racing and its all good. That is what makes NASCAR great, that you have all different types of race tracks and types of racing products.

    This was the race I’ve been waiting for all year and it’s here. Heck, I love the Daytona 500 Talladega short tracks, but boy oh boy this race excites me more than ever let’s go! Go Hendrick motorsports! I like the road course scenery I really liked the 2021 race the best I liked the chaos on the start and restart. The only thing I liked about 2023 was no stage breaks. There should be no stage in general to keep it more natural, but for the sake of drama, I love the starts and restarts! They say they might rotate the road course after 2025 back in. Here’s what I think we need to do keep the oval permanently, but if NASCAR needs another road course to fill in the gap to replace another road course or once in a good while or we go to Indy twice a year for two different events like the Charlotte Oval and Roval! I’m not a Formula One fan, but I challenge Formula One drivers to the Indy oval since they race on that road course

  • @rdbjr77
    @rdbjr77 Місяць тому

    I’m glad to see the oval back and, aside from the history, the cool thing in my opinion is that it’s a really difficult track so you don’t just luck into a win there. Like Darlington, you first have to race the track. We may not see a four wide sprint to the finish line and that’s all right. I’m a huge fan of all different kinds of racing and appreciate the value of a well executed strategy over the course of a tough race just as much as a wild finish. Like baseball, there are so many layers that aren’t apparent on the surface but make for an interesting show if you understand what’s really going on. I guess what I’m saying is that this one may be more appealing for the racing purist than the casual sports fan but that’s important to have too. The variety of tracks and racing styles in NASCAR is great and I think we need to appreciate each for what it is.

No Cup points race should be under 300 whatever measurement…

    • @nascarfanatic2425
      @nascarfanatic2425 Місяць тому +1

      Well to be fair, most NASCAR Cup Series road course races are under 300 miles.
      As a matter of fact, a lot of road course races are actually measured in kilometers. For example, the Toyota Save/Mart 350 @ Sonoma Raceway is 350 kilometers; not miles. In miles, the race is actually 218 miles long. The Cheez-It 355 is also 355 kilometers; not miles. It's mileage distance is 220. The Bank of America Roval 400 is 400 kilometers long; not 400 miles.
      However, there's no excuse for a Cup Series race on a road course to be as short as the Chicago Street Course was. And Indy's standard road course layout is usually clockwise as opposed to it being the usual counterclockwise run. Even still, I think the fact that almost every year the road course was a wreck fest shitshow fully justifies bringing back the Speedway.

I’d get killed for this, but I think 7-8 road courses was awesome. These odd ovals can be fun, but imagine cup cars at a short bull ring road course, or all the series on the track at once. I'm one of the few that enjoys watch road racing. All of NASCAR would benefit from getting rid of the stages, especially on RC races. The whole stage thing and playoffs is too stick and ball like. If the championship can be won mathematically 3 races before the final race then that's just racing. Having 4 drivers compete for a championship in the final race is a fluke
