  • This is a motorcycle rider viewpoint video of an amazing afternoon ride on the back roads of the Rockies to the west of Denver. This ride was part of my outstanding odyssey to Albuquerque and Denver and was done on the 30th of May 2024.
Picking up where we left off from Part One, Swami continued the shakedown proceeding smartly down W Platte River Road. We were doing great until the road turned to gravel! But we persevered and soon enough we were through. Little did we know this was a small sample of what was to come!
W Platte River Road become N Platte River Road and wound its way till joining up with Highway 67. Now we should have turned and gone east on 67 but instead we followed it south until we stopped for a moment at Deckers to reassess our routing.
At this point in the video, I cut and spared you the next 45 minutes. Firstly, because we backtracked to where 67 turned east, and secondly because little known to us since it wasn’t shown clearly on the map, 67 became quite a challenging dirt/gravel road! Not only that, but it had a lot of topography and switchbacks to deal with; and it began to lightly rain! Not cool! If you’re going down that section of 67, about 20km of it is dirt and no fun on a big road bike. So, I pick up the video after 67 became paved again after W Pine Creek Road joined up with it.
After that, it was nice smooth sailing along 67 all the way till it met up with Highway 85 at Sedalia. Then it was just highway and city driving back home, so I left that out and ended the video at Sedalia.
Here are some highlights of this ride:
(02:00) Epic mountain scenery on winding W Platte River Road beside the North Fork South Platte River
    (23:13) Yay! On Pavement again
(40:20) Taking a pause at Deckers
(44:01) Some nice twists on Highway 67
(52:53) More good twists on Highway 67
(54:23) Where we took the opening picture
Brother Swami felt super-bad about leading us through that dirt road but there was honestly no easy way to know from the map. Just all part of the adventure! Good to know I can handle my big 1850 on steep dirt roads in a bit of rain!
I think Brother Swami did a fantastic job of putting together an amazing motorcycle ride for us which I thoroughly enjoyed. Just think, he can do stuff like that any day he wants! Denver is pretty cool.
As usual, I added music for your listening pleasure. You can find all these tracks in the soft rock section of Teknoaxe’s amazing royalty free music. teknoaxe.com/H...
