- Today we talk about the real reason everything is cozy now, or the 'cozification' of a generation. This is a bit of a departure from my regular stuff, more of a video essay, but I hope you like it!

Hey Guys! This video sure took a while! I made this video completely by myself over the course of a couple months. It’s quite a departure from my regular stuff but I absolutely loved making it so I hope you enjoy it. More like this coming soon!

lofi girl actually doesnt make me feel cozy at all. melancholy and sad are definitely accurate but also the image makes me a bit uneasy. anyone else get this?

OMG I USED TO LOVE THIS CHANNEL. Fun fact I found this guy again just now after randomly remembering the phrase “Jatt black hair” from a My story animated video he covered
I just recently re-binged all his videos and the jatt black hair Micheal video is still one of my all time favorites.
This was great! The production quality is insane, and it’s a well-written script.
If there’s one thing I’m glad my parents taught me about, it’s work-life balance. They raised me to work hard, while also showing me there’s no point in working hard if you can’t stop and enjoy the life your work is creating. Cozy media is just one of the many things I can take joy in when my life gets hectic. And it does remind me to slow down and enjoy the ride.
I've thought about this phenomenon recently... For me, I think I like feeling cozy because it feels like I can take a little moment out of the crazy stuff in the world and just slow down and live a little. When I was feeling super suicidal, feeling cozy and relaxed made me feel like life wasn't just a whirlwind of chaos and stress, there was something beautiful and warm about living and being in the moment. Recently I've had a lot of sewing projects so I've been binging Joinen videos (best way to relax tbh!) and watching old shows I grew up with. It's really helped me appreciate life a bit more.
What an absolute ✨ masterpiece✨! Definitely teared up towards the end, strruggling through a semi-burnout at the moment, so this hit extra hard. Coping mechanism are so important, and you're certainly right. Rather than getting drunk twice or thrice a week at the local pub to drown my sorrows and festering feelings, I'd rather be playing cozy games, thank you very much.

Ooh, the production value on this is incredible!! Those tone shifts really got me. It hits the nail perfectly on the head about trying to maintain a healthy balance when the rest of the world is so chaotic.

Joinen! This is so fantastic! I thoroughly enjoy all of your content but I love when you really dive in like this! My life doesn't deal with the typical stresses that most do and my comfort media isn't quite typical but it's what brings me joy and respite, but this really made me reflect on these things and how I manage to get through. And reminded me to sit outside and listen to the birds more.

Update: finished the video, first off, I am with you! I call it "leisure" but "cozy" sounds great too. It’s about relaxing and allowing things to just be in contrast with the fast paced capitalistic world. It’s a process of being human. Loved this Joinen, amazing editing dude 💯
this is a super dope video. the production quality is great, and i am beyond impressed. but for your cozy day i would have recommended not only playing cozy games and movies and eating comfort food, but also including self care in it. as you’ve said, it gets boring just playing comfort media. make a healthy smoothie, go to the gym and put on relaxing music, work on a craft or project you’ve been meaning to, research something you’re interested in, play some music, take a hot shower, clean up a bit, smoke a bowl!! being cozy doesn’t mean shutting off yourself off to the whole world, it can mean adjusting your surroundings and mindset to bring a sense of calm into your day. beautiful work:)

Ong, y'all don't know how happy I am that Joinen posted something. I was binge-watching his videos for the last... 2 months?? I dunno?? And I know he posted 2 months ago, but for me it felt like FOREVER. I was so excited to watch the video, and not only it didn't disappoint, it's AMAZING!! the editing is ON POINT, the lights, the speech, it's PERFECT. And hearing "no moi, it's Joinen" made my day 🙂

I'll share my take cuz...why not ? Anyways, I'm someone with emotional dysregulation due to trauma. I totally resonated with the whole part on detox from stress or oversaturating cozy stimuli.
I think it's a really important distinction. I've spent a huge portion of my life coping through watching an absurd amount of sitcoms (still do) cuz that's my "cozy" medium.
And nowadays I work (in therapy) to actively feel that cozy in terms of emotion. Unloading and unpacking the negative shit and getting to work on knowing how to actively feel that inner sense of peace internally. And I'm getting there.
My work through this makes me really certain that both matter like a lot. I don't think it's dangerous to use cozy mediums, but I think it's important to also work on your emotions at the same time so you can learn the skill to be able to get cozy even without those outlets. Because it makes appreciating cozy things better and if you don't you can end up so saturated with stress like I did where you can't even enjoy the cozy things anymore.
But I've also stopped ingesting those outlets to focus only on my emotions, and life is rough some times you just need a healthy dose of escapism too it can help make emotional wave and echoes that you need to push your inner peace forwards. So yeah Both matter. And both are healthy. But you need both.

When the word said comfy, I clean my room for like 15 minutes and now it’s looking much cleaner. I don’t know why that snapped in my brain.
Most of my life has slowed down. I got chronically ill years ago and I feel like I can't keep going in a regular setting. The life I forced for years until my body gave up on me and broke. This is how I started incorporating less taxing things, forcing myself to stop and give up when things are too difficult. Can't leave the bed today? Time for tea, stardew valley and anime! I'm still disabled and basically nothing in my life has really changed... but it helps me start up again next time because I took my much needed recovery my body has been begging for all my life.

Also, somewhat unrelated, but I always found it a little odd that the LoFi studying girl was the face of coziness, because she's studying. Since when do people *like* to study? I hardly associate having to dedicate myself to boring homework I couldn't care less about with being chill and cozy.

We consume media to espace the chores that brig us stress , listening to lofi , playing cozy games , just being cozy for a while it’s good but then you get the sense of boredom and loneliness
The lesson of this video : go outside , make some friends , hang out with friends, go to youre job
Stress is a normal factor in life , but just having stress is not ideal , you need a healthy balance Of coziness and stress
We consume media to forget reality and we lose touch with the world , wich is not healthy

Great Video man! You nailed the cinematic style, and I think you convey a lot of real questions and answers, that I agree very much with.
In the end, I think having or making true "cozy" moments comes from a good balance between working on you responsibilities, and taking time for yourself, so that you're not stressed, as well as figuring out a way to be content with your life. I don't feel cozy personally just mindlessly consuming content, because I feel as thought I wasted the day. And if I just try and work all day, it's exhausting. But finding a nice balance I can be content with, and just taking time to remember the things that are good, I think is what works best for me.
Cosy is such a general concept and people are so different from one another. For example, one can give me all the cosy things, media, etc. in the world but if I experience it alone that supposed cosiness turns to sadness. I need to share with others in order to truly feel cosy. Sure, I need time off on my own to recharge but to me that's self care, not cosiness.
